    Some good, some bad

If you go in with the right expectations this monitor can be a good one. When it's calibrated correctly it looks terrific, but it's difficult to get it correct. The backlight is way too bright and hurts my eyes, but the brightness adjustment affects the colors. Turning the brightness down to where my eyes don't bleed destroys the colors and makes it look terrible. The brightness and contract settings must be set according to the colors they produce and then you will have to find another way to reduce the intensity of the backlight. For me I had to go into the graphic card settings and tone it down to minimum output values there. Also, for WIndows users you will absolute need to run the cleartype adjustment from the control panel display settings to get the text to look right once you have the brightness and colors set the way you want. This monitor comes out of the box very cold on the colors, so you'll likely need to adjust them to warm it up a bit. The touch buttons for the menu are simply stupid. They're clumsy and difficult to use. It's another case of a manufacturer trying to make something "cool" instead of actually making it better. The buttons work, but they are annoying to use so fortunately they are not needed all that often. This monitor also has very noticeable motion issues, so using it for games or movies isn't going to work very well. Even scrolling text looks terrible, but if you're using it for office use the motion issues are not a big deal. Overall, if you get this monitor for the right reasons, knowing what its limitations are, it can be a very good monitor.

The Dell U3014 line keeps getting better!

The latest generation of the Dell U3014 is thinner, lighter, and more affordable than ever. I have had one of the previous generation of these at work for some time now and have just been waiting for the price to come down a little more before picking one up for home. The Best Buy in-store pickup was smooth and pleasant, and I didn't have to fret about the monitor just sitting on my front porch until I got home.

I picked this up so that I could connect it to a Macbook Pro retina display laptop. My wife does a lot of photography to having the max available resolution along with an accurate color gamut was important. She loves this monitor. It took me a few to get it set to the correct input and then change it to support the max resolution but after that, no issues.

    Had to return it

I purchased one of these monitors after using the previous generation for 3 years, it was time to upgrade. Ordered it online and pick up in store. SO far so good. Unboxed it and hooked it up. Immediately I noticed that the right side of the screen had a blue tint to it compared to the left side which had a warmer tint. I ran several test and turned off all the lights in my office. Sure enough, everything on the right side of the screen had a blue tint. Faulty monitor! For $1200, you'd think that Dell would use some QC in these high end monitors. I work in the graphics industry and there is no way I can used a monitor with this lack of quality control. Returned it Best Buy today.
