Would be great if it worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice thin tablet with a very nice screen, unfortunately it locks up and freezes constantly. Firmware updates are supposed to fix this issue but haven't. After searching on line, it seems that a significant number of the Venue 8 3840 have bad motherboards. I have tried to have my tablet repaired under Dell's 1 year warranty, unfortunately their service representatives refuse to help. This is my second bad experience with a Dell tablet, and will be my last. If you want a good, inexpensive 8 inch tablet, look elsewhere.

Terrible Tablet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased my Dell Venue 8 directly from Dell on Black Friday 2013. What a terrible product. It has always been slow, but several months in, the screen stopped responding to touch. I'd have to turn it off and back on to get the touch screen to work again. I called tech support and they walked me through a factory reset. This did NOT fix the problem. This seems to be a common issue, based on the threads in various forums that I visited looking for answers. Eventually, I sent it in to Dell for repair under the warranty. They replaced the motherboard in the unit and sent it back. Unfortunately, that did NOT resolve the problem (in fact, it's worse than ever) and the unit is now out of warranty and they said that they can't help me unless I purchase the extended warranty from them. I asked for pricing for the extended warranty, but have never received a response. My tablet is now functioning primarily as a paperweight because it is so painfully slow and troublesome to use. I used to like Dell products, but will never buy another.

Undetermined due to bad home network
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was generally impressed with this Dell tablet in the store. When I got it home, I couldn't establish a stable internet connection. I thought this was the fault of my tablet. After returning it for a Lenovo tablet and seeing the same problem, I traced the problem to my to my home network. I had interference from my new Samsung printer's WIFI on the identical band; it killed my signal strength. I used Wifi Analyzer by Kevin Yuan to track down the interference on my cell phone. In general, I still thought highly of the Dell tablet; I liked the rubber-like back, clear display and the shimmering screen saver. I don't know why so many other negative reviews were posted. However, since I never adequately tested it, I can't recommended it.

major issue with only 1Gb of RAM.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My initial venue 8 had 2Gb of ram and the thing died after 15 months. The replacement I bought was newer version (3840) with only 1Gb of ram. It ran so slow it drove me crazy. I sent it back after two weeks.

Good value for the amount paid
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading all the reviews for this tablet I decided to give it a try anyway. I found no major difficulties with this tablet. All functions worked as they should. Did not experience any malfunctions of apps. Speed was acceptable for a tablet of this cost. If I was to identify any negative at all it has a short battery life (3-4 hours) before requiring a charge. Screen resolution is great. Weight is very light and easy to handle. This is a good example of an Android tablet.

Why have an SD slot when you can't use it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While my kids like their tablets, I have had nothing but problems. It's loaded with bloatware, which limits the memory. It has an sd card slot and advertises that it can hold a 32gb sd card- but what they don't tell you is that the sd card is completely useless. Dell purposely removed that option, which means that you can't move apps, pictures, movies, music, etc. onto the tablet. I was on with a completely clueless customer support person (whose only skill seemed to be condescension) for over an hour, and the only thing that happened is my blood pressure shot through the roof. I have a Samsung phone, and thought about buying my kids Samsung tablets- but this was too good a deal to pass up. You get what you pay for, I guess, and I won't make that mistake again.

Ruined by Low Memory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This could have been great tablet if it had not been ruined by Dell by poor use of memory. This 1Gb version has less than 300Mb available to the user which results in many programs stuttering badly when they run. A different 2Gb version should be OK but this 1Gb version is best avoided. Check the Dell chat room for many other users with the same problem.

Solid Android tablet for the Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really nice FHD 1080P display, which is almost impossible to find at this price range. Works fine for basic apps, surfing the web, and occasional game play.

looked good in the store, but useless after 2 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tablet looked good in the store, with reasonable price, but no luck setting it up at home. It indicates that it can find a strong wi-fi signal, but says it cannot establish a connection. Says to call customer support. Dell customer support has been useless. Computers down yesterday. computers down again today. Service rep won't even listen to problem to see if it's something simple to solve without being able to verify tablet serial number. Worthless!

Perfect Tablet for a good price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this tablet to replace my Mother in Law Nexus 7 that died. The screen resolution and speed is much better than the Nexus 7 (2012).

Android is a Joke
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It only took me 24 hours to realize android is and always will be the worst operating system in the world for phones and tablets. The android apps keep crashing, stopped working. I never had any problems with apple's apps on tablets. But wow, never will I ever buy another android device for as long as I live. Returned two android tablets because they truly are junk

I bought it to replace my Nexus tablet that has a cracked screen. I will get my Nexus repaired soon.
