    Amazing Laptop, bad luck.

I bought this laptop on an amazing open-box deal and was disappointed to see the trackpad was broken. I spent a long time reinstalling drivers and trying fixes listed online but to no avail, there must've been a QC error with this laptop's trackpad. Just be aware when buying open-box. Despite that, the screen was awesome and it was a pleasure to use (with a mouse)

Have to return - common bug causes frequent crash

Whilst it had some good aspects - the screen is nice, trackpad is good, it feels great and in general operates well, I have to return this as it has several bugs on startup. The key bug (crashes every time it goes to sleep and I have to manual restart, with machine incredibly hot) has made this unusable so I will have to return. In researching I've discovered that this bug is surprisingly common with this computer.

The Dell XPS line of laptops have always been at the top of it’s class of premium thin-and-light devices, and the XPS 13 model is the smallest and lightest of the bunch. I have been using the newest version - XPS 13 9310 for more than a week now and before I delve into the details, can now summarize my experience below: Pros: - Superb craftsmanship with top-notch build quality - One of the best and brightest displays I have come across in consumer grade laptops - Great keyboard with good feel, complimented by a nice touchpad - Fan noise inaudible with idle/low load, and not very loud even when stressed Cons: - Even with the best Intel Core i7 Tiger Lake 28 W mobile CPU, the performance compared to 10th gen is very minimum, and much lower than Ryzen ones - RAM is soldered and non-upgradable - Only comes with 2 Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports, so dongle life is the way - Battery life is short with the UHD+ display - One of the worst webcam I have come across - Can get a bit hot (both top and bottom when stressed) - CPU clock rate is unsteady under heavy load (throttling) With that being said, I enjoyed the laptop so much that I’m taking this time write up a more detailed review, so read on if you want to know more: When I first started looking for an ultra-portable premium laptop a couple of years back, I found the Dell XPS 13 sitting on the top - the build quality, form-factor, performance was top-notch. Alas, due to competitive pricing and the allure of 2-in-1 convertible form factor, I ended up getting an HP Spectre x360 instead. Now, in 2021 when time came to get a new laptop for my everyday use, I looked back at the XPS 13 offering, and ended up getting a late-2020 9310 model sporting Intel’s 11th gen Core i7 1185G7 ‘Tiger Lake’ CPU and the new Iris XE integrated GPU, with a UHD+ display. The one I got has the Frost exterior with Arctic White interior, and the palm rest is made up of ‘woven glass fiber’ which is cool to the touch under any condition. The keyboard is also white which looks quite good - however with the whitish backlight makes it difficult to use in lighted condition. Thus, compared to some black/dark colored keyboards I use with my other laptops where I can keep the backlight turned on all the time, in case of the XPS 13 I had to toggle the backlight on and off depending on the lighting condition. The keyboard itself is a pleasure to type with. The chiclet/island style keys are well placed and quite big for the 13” form factor - the keyboard spans almost the entire length. Key travel is good and has a nice feel. The same can be said about the glass-covered Windows Precision touchpad. The size is adequate, and I personally prefer this taller ratio. Sensitivity while gliding and clicking is very good. The laptop is very very light (around 2.78 lbs according to reputable sources), and screen-to-body ratio is a whopping 91.5%. It feels more like an 11-inch subnotebook of yesteryear packing a 13.4” screen. The edges are chamfered and do not have edges, and the stainless steel Dell logo is prominent while not being overbearing. The body is rigid and felt very durable. It’s so easy to walk around with the laptop in hand. As for the display - it’s steller: the UHD+ (3840 x 2400) resolution of this Sharp IPS panel may be an overkill, but I don’t mind the extra sharpness in spite of the hit on battery life, and I’m in love with the 16:10 aspect ratio. It is very very bright, even at the lowest setting, and with a peak of 500 nits it stays usable outdoors in sunlight though not being a matte screen. The nearly all-around bezel-less ‘Infinity Edge’ display creates a distinct appeal compared to other ultra-portables available now. It supports touch, but unfortunately does not support an active pen since it does not have a digitizer. I feel there’s some confusion regarding this (since there’s the 2-in-1 XPS 13 that does support active pen), and wish Dell can make this more clear. As for performance, the 11th gen Tiger Lake Core i7 1185G7 is the top-of-the-line offering from Intel at 28 W TDP range. But looking at benchmarks it seems that it still trails AMD’s Ryzen 4000 and 5000 series CPUs, especially in terms of multi-core and thermal performance. However, from everyday usage I typically do, I feel the performance is adequate compared to how small the chassis is. Adhering to the new Intel Evo platform standard, the XPS 13 features ‘instant-on’ feature, and the laptop truly turns-on almost instantly. In the typical workload of using Office apps, doing remote work via Remote Desktop and Zoom meetings, and a decent amount of video watching, I found that most of the time the fans do not kick in much, thus providing a silent environment. I do hear them turn on, and the laptop getting hot when I’m working with large spreadsheets and presentations, or when I’m trying to use Ansys FEA tools and Solidworks, but those are rare use cases for me, as I depend on my larger gaming laptop or my desktop to do those work. My laptop came with 16 GB LPDDR4x (4167 MHz) dual-channel memory that’s soldered and thus is not upgradeable. The Micron 512 GB SSD is fast enough in real-life experience (I didn’t bother to get a CrystalMark score as that’s readily available elsewhere). It is a PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe drive, and fortunately is upgradeable. However I couldn’t figure out whether it can utilize a PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD properly. The laptop comes with a 45 W USB-C charger with both a regular duckhead along with a power cord extension. Since USB-C PD is supported, technically it should get charge from almost all PD chargers. However, while trying to charge with a 15 W charger with the laptop powered on, I got an error that to charge more than 27 W capacity is needed. I tried a 65 W charger that came with my HP Spectre x360 and that worked fine. With power off, I was able to charge from zero to almost 90% in less than 2 hours. An LED on the lib tells the status of the charging which was handy. The XPS 13 comes with a very limited set of ports compared to some other premium ultra-portables - only 2 USB-C ports, located on each side of the laptop. A standard 3.5mm audio jack is there as expected, and there’s a micro-SD card slot too. I felt the absence of a USB-A port dearly, as I had to fumble with the included USB-C-to-A adapter to connect my wireless mouse and USB drives. So dongle life it is for me. One key point is that the USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 4, which is the next gen version and should give some future-proofing comfort. I’m also glad that they are located on both sides, as I can charge the laptop without figuring out how to route the power cable or placing the laptop in awkward positions. The Dell XPS 13 offers so much in terms of build quality and design that I admire it as a piece of art and exquisite engineering. Looking at other laptops in its class made me realize that more. Yet, I can feel that the performance does not hit the top marks compared to what AMD-based systems can offer. And if you look at comparisons with the M1-based Macbook Air and Pros, this is left in the dust by a long shot. Maybe the Tiger Lake CPU is to blame here, or maybe the engineers at Dell compromised in terms of performance in return for thermal or battery life - whichever it is, it makes the MSRP a bit hard to justify. And that’s a shame for such a beautiful machine. I have to rely on a different laptop to get the performance I need, but I keep going back to the Dell XPS 13 9310 for the stunning display and the exhilarating feel of using it. I will definitely recommend this to you, but only if you value the craftsmanship over performance.

The Dell - XPS 13" UHD+ Touch-Screen Laptop -Intel Evo Platform- Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD is a deceptively powerful laptop. The aircraft aluminum frame is not only tough but incredibly light and stylish, almost MacBook like. Somehow I don't think that's an accident. The Evo Platform i7 processor is lightning quick. I fly a drone for fun and the platform is perfect for video editing and stills processing. I couldn't be happier. The display may not be 4k but ya could have fooled me. It's bright, vivid and amazing. This is the platform Windows 10 was made for and what's better the integration with my Samsung S21+ Ultra is perfect. Although the battery holds its charge a long time the Dell - XPS 13" UHD+ Touch-Screen Laptop -Intel Evo Platform- Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - 512GB SSD gets a little warm when video editing, but that's gonna happen when editing. I've never been a laptop fan till now; especially with the integration and symbiotic relationship between laptop, cell and tablet. This tiny but mighty laptop does the yeomans work of any desktop but with a smaller footprint. You can easily run a larger monitor and full size keyboard using your Dell as you would your deaktop You're gonna love it I am sure Cheers!

I love how light this laptop is. It was very simple to get it up and running. It connected to my wifi quickly and was set up with in 20 minutes. I love how with every new laptop, you can sync your info just by your google or microsoft account. It makes the set-up so much easier. Its very thin and I absolutely love the keyboard when I am typing, as I'm typing up this review with my new laptop. The look and feel is so different from any other Dell laptop I have owned. It has the Dell signature features, but with lots of improvements. I also love how fast the web pages load up. So far the battery can hold a very long charge. I want to say I was on it for about 5-6 hours (on and off) and I still had some battery life. I really love this laptop and would def recommend it.

No negatives on this computer, but a couple of nits to pick. The fingerprint reader built in to the power key is clever, but I have occasional issues with it. I think this may not be just this reader as my i Phone has the same problem. While it does include a Type C to type A converter for USB, this computer only has two USB ports and one of them is taken with power. This means you will need a portable USB hub if you wish to connect additional peripherals beyond one. Overall, it is exceptionally quick to boot, the apps open quickly, the screen is gorgeous, and the sound is much better than expected for such a small case computer. I am most pleased and would recommend to a friend.

Best premium laptop I have used so far

I got a chance to review this laptop for a honest opinion. I will preface this with saying I have had an iffy relationship with Dell products in the past to the point I swore them off. It was back in the early to mid 2000's and I will say between this Dell XPS 13 and the Dell G3 and G7 that I have used I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of their products are. The only knocks with the G3 and G7 are they are heavy laptops and with meh screens but they are gaming laptops so they were ok. Did return the G7 but I still have the G3 which I use for gaming. This Dell XPS 13 is the higher end SKU with 16GB of DDR4 fast memory, 512GB SSD, intel i7 11th gen and the 4k UHD touch panel which is amazing. In terms of non gaming premium laptops I have tended to prefer Apple Macbook pro lineup but this actually convinced me to like this better. The touch screen is the deciding factor. I just love using it for scrolling down webpages. The screen I can't validate it but it is supposed to be 500 nits brightness and for me its bright enough to easily be seen outside so its good enough for me. The aspect ratio is also 16:10 which means the screen is slightly taller which is great for Documents and web browsing. The intel i7 with its integrated GPU is fine to push the 4k display with video content like Netflix and etc. Also good to play some older basic games like E-titles and so forth but don't expect to play them in 4k at high. I would probably kick it down to around 1080P to be honest. This laptop is part of the Intel EVO program which is supposed to promise some things like 10 hours or so battery life with a 1080p screen, Obv this is a 4k screen so battery life will take a hit but it is respectable enough for me.

I love the XPS dell series laptop. I have a XPS 13 old model and it has been reliable and durable. This new model came in frost exterior, arctic white interior color, and the machine-milled aluminum chassis creates a style that makes it look totally different. The impeccable finish gives the sensation of professionalism and high precision. It is a very, very elegant design. As the previous XPS models, this one is thinner, lighter and feels strong, and a little bit smaller than the older version (7.75inx11.6in). Everything feels like first class. Besides the improvements in faster processor, superior video, and faster and wider bandwidth on USB-c ports, I can also remark 3 visually notable differences with the previous models. First, even if the size of this new laptop is smaller, the display, keys and touchpad are all larger. The XPS features a 6.8% larger 16:10 display, 17% larger touchpad, and an edge-to-edge backlit keyboard with larger key caps, for an easier, more optimized keyboard. This model features a 6.8% larger 16:10 display and a 17% larger keyboard, and believe me this is a very noticeable improvement. The borders of the keyboard and the screen have reduced so much. In the past models the size of the screen diagonally is 13.25in and the newer model is 13.5 (7.25x11.25) even though the overall size is smaller. The size of the keyboard is bigger, because the borders have been reduced and the keys are also bigger which makes it easier to type. The trackpad is fast and responsive. As always, the backlighting keyboard is extremely efficient and useful. The third noticeable improvement is camera location. The webcam is located on the top center just above the display and it isn't just smaller than the previous models, but it's also better because of its 4-element lens that delivers sharp and precise video capture. The Intel Iris Xe Graphics technology makes the videos, photos and movies look great. I was surprised to find out that the screen is corning gorilla Glass 6, which is very strong, as well as impact and scratch resistance. The battery lasts up to 14 hours, which for a laptop is perfect for playing music videos, using the Wifi for Youtube, Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, Crackle, etc.takes It takes around two hours to charge. You can use your fingerprint to log in. The finger print sensor is located on the top left side of the keyboard and you can use it to sign in. It has a quick boot up, most likely because of the hdd ssd and the Windows 10 Home OS and it include one year McAfee antivirus license. It also has hidden speakers, even though they look small, the sound is oud and clear. Talking about the ports, It comes with the headphone jack and microSD card slot and the fast 4 Thunderbolt 3 with power delivery and displayport. It includes a USB C to USB-A adapter so you can plug your USB A devices. If you need a HDMI port, you can get the Dell Adapter - USB-C to HDMI and an HDMI cable to connect it to the TV. Besides the USB-C adapter, it also comes with the 3-Prong Duckhead Wall Plug Adapter, which becomes very handy when you want to minimize the mess with the power cable while you are connecting the power adapter in a conference desk power strip socket. After hours of use it amazed me that it doesn't really get hot. To recap, this is a very elegant laptop, with all the power you need for whatever you want to do, programming, watching videos, making video calls, or surfing the internet, everything performs very fast.

I have had this Dell XPS 13 for about one week and I absolutely love it. To begin with, taking it out of the box and getting it set up was very easy and it was a relatively quick process. During the set up you will notice that it comes with a one year subscription to McAfee. As you set up this XPS, you will also be given the options on how to secure your laptop. It comes with a finger print reader or face recognition to get your laptop started. It comes in a very nice box, I just wish they had also provided a carrying case since I transport it back and forth from my home to work 5 days a week. The design is very sleek and modern and I guess Dell felt it didn't need a carrying case because they encased it in aluminum chassis that is very strong and sturdy. You would think something so sturdy would weigh a ton, but this XPS is very light and comes in at a little over 2.5 pounds. Once you get this bad boy all set up, the first thing that strikes you about this Dell is the screen resolution. This Dell XPS has 3840 x 2400 screen resolution and you will notice it even more when you watch videos, play videogames or use Photoshop. The screen is also a touchscreen, which comes in handy once in a while. As you are charging your laptop for the first time you will notice that it comes with 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports which is really nice. Once you are ready to really work with this Dell XPS you will notice how powerful this machine really is. It comes with 512 gigabytes of SSD capacity and 16 gigs of RAM. You will notice this power as you multi-task. Everything is so smooth and quick! If you decide that you want to work or watch a video at night, you do have the option of turning on/off the backlit keyboard. There are only 2 slight gripes about this machine that I have. One, I have already mentioned, the lack of a carrying case. The only other complaint that I have is the camera quality. In this age of Zoom meetings, having a good camera would be nice. Other than those 2 minor things, I absolutely love this Dell XPS. If you are in the market for a powerful laptop that is versatile, then look no further than this Dell XPS.
