I would like to start out by saying that I have owned many laptops and tables over the years. I have had Windows machines, as well as a wide variety of Mac products as well. I have to say that this is my first 2-in-1 product though.
I will start out with my initial impression. I have to say it is quite favorable. This machine looks very sleek. It has a very macbook-esque brushed metal finish. It feels solid in your hands, but not heavy…it is actually extremely light. I find the screen to be very crisp and clear…and yes…bright enough. I have read some other reviews that said the screen wasn’t all that bright, but I think it is bright enough, and then some! I also love that fact that there is basically no bezel on the screen at all, it pretty much goes right up to the edge of the 4 corners.
I also love that it has the backlit keys. That is one feature that not a lot of laptops offer these days, but I was very happy to have it on here. It’s nice that they also fade out after a few seconds of inactivity to conserve battery life.
The trackpad is very responsive and works perfectly. The touchscreen also works as good as any high end tablet does without any problems whatsoever. I also really like the slightly rubberized feel of the keyboard and trackpad surface. Although it has a tendency to really show fingerprints. I would still consider it a positive though.
The fingerprint sensor is also a very cool feature. Makes it very easy to have multiple users and switch between them without having to enter passwords.
As far as the ports, you don’t get a whole lot, but that’s simply because there isn’t much room for them on such a small tablet. But the 2 USB-C ports, headphone jack, and MicroSD card slot will be enough for most people.
One last thing is the battery life. That is really subjective based on what you are doing, and everyone will get different numbers based on what they are doing. I usually use my computer for a few hours a day. Some web surfing, YouTubing, maybe a game or two in tablet mode. I find that I only have to charge it maybe every 3-4 days…so for me, that is perfectly acceptable and what I would expect from a laptop this size.
Now to the couple of things that I had some problems with…and these are very nitpicky little things. First of all, getting this thing open is quite a challenge. There is no indentation to get your finger into in order to easily open it up like most laptops have. I usually have to tilt it up on the side to get my fingers in there to open it. Not a huge issue, but definitely an annoyance. The other thing is that I think the keys on the keyboard could have been a little bit bigger. I have fairly big hands and sometimes I find myself hitting 2 keys at once. So either slightly bigger keys, or a little more space in between them would have been helpful. Thirdly, is the placement of the camera. Its way down by the keyboard, not only is it not a flattering angle for most people, but if you are doing any kind of video conferencing while you are typing, everyone will mainly see your fingers typing away in front of the camera instead of the person on the screen. Those are really the only 3 complaints I have about the design and build quality of the machine. Overall, I would give it 5 stars in the appearance and design though.
Now onto performance. This is kind of hard to gauge because you don’t know if it’s the specs of the computer, or Windows in general…but I thought this would have been a little zippier than it is. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a fast machine and will be good enough for 90% of the people out there. I come from a video editing and graphic design background, so I am used to working with some pretty high end machines. For something with 16GB of RAM and a solid state hard drive I would have thought it would have been a little quicker though. Overall, the machine performs very well. Windows is Windows…and I can’t fault Dell for anything to do with that, so I won’t comment on the operating system. I think it does a very admirable job of running Windows 10 and running it very well.
Next I will get into the tablet part of it. After tweaking a setting or 2, it now seamlessly switches from tablet mode to laptop mode as soon as I fold over the screen. There isn’t any delay or any weird glitches, it works very seamlessly. I love the fact that I can be watching a movie on it, and then just flip out the keyboard to type an email, and then flip it back to a tablet to watch a movie again. It is also nice that even when you are in the laptop mode you can still use the touchscreen. Makes it really easy to navigate around without having to use the touchpad. I have owned a Surface tablet in the past, and I say this is on par with the performance of that. The only drawback to this is that when you are using it as a laptop, you see all your fingerprint smudges from when you were using it as a tablet…which is something you don’t get with a regular laptop. But I guess that is unavoidable considering what this is.
Overall, I think this is a great little 2-in-1 tablet from Dell. They are a well-known company that has been around for years. They have good customer service, tech support, and warranties, so you know you are getting a quality product with a company that will stand behind it. If you are in the market for a 2-in-1 tablet, or even just a laptop. I would definitely give this a serious look. The regular price might be a little bit steep for what you get, but if you are able to find it on sale, I think it’s a great deal!

Hello Kenh,
We're sorry to hear about the performance of your motherboard. We'd recommend the following tips for help with your computer overheating:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue. 2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system. Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage. 3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%. 4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis. 5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance. 6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.
We hope this helps with your computer once you get it back from being repaired.

Great computer other than battery

The laptop was overall my favorite one that they had displayed on the sales floor. The design was slick and the computer itself packed a good amount of power. Only flaw was that under sleep mode the computer still drained battery as much as when it was on being used constantly. It did not hold a long charge if it was not plugged in. After I bought the laptop, not reading reviews, I decided to hop on bestbuy.com to read some reviews. The battery is a common issue and updates only patch so little. I would say steer away for business use or school use as you will be constantly be looking for a outlet to plug it in.
