    Disapointed in Dell

I recently purchased a Dell XPS tower for my wife. After picking it up from Best Buy, I took off the side panel just to make sure no cables were loosened in transit and tied up one cable that was kind of flopping around. Then I began setting it up. Installed my anti-virus software, a product I have used for many years. Then I tried to create a recovery flash drive; that process failed. I rebooted and tried again. At that point, after allowing me to log in, the keyboard and mouse both stopped functioning. I finally had to hit power button to shut down. The same thing happened several more times, logged in OK but then keyboard and mouse stopped working. I called Dell support and got a lady whose accent was difficult to understand. She kept putting me on hold to confer with someone or look something up. Finally she wanted me to enter the BIOS to check the version. At this point the PC basically quit responding at all; it would not even attempt to boot. I was more impressed than I expected to be with the overall quality of the system, inside and out. I hope this is not typical for a Dell. I boxed it up and Best Buy took it back, fortunately. Over a decade ago I worked in a university library that bought hundreds of Dells. I liked Gateway better at that time but the Dells were mostly OK. This PC was meant to replace an HP that is 12 years old. Will probably get something else from Best Buy, but not a Dell.

Have had 3 Dell PCs over the last 12 years and this one is the quietest and fastest I've owned. It has met all my expectations.
