If you’re looking at a machine like this you either already know what you’re getting into or like me are an espresso novice. For the novices, it turns out making espresso is an art as much as it is a process. I actually found this machine somewhat intimidating as a result of my lack of knowledge and experience with this type of drink. Thankfully, it is genuinely easy to use, you just need to follow the quick start guide to the letter. After a few tries you start getting used to the process and are able to understand what it takes to customize your own drinks to your liking. The machine itself is beautifully designed, everything looks and feels quality and it has a relatively small footprint on the counter. I do wish it had an actual power button instead of using the OK button for power on and starting a brew in one button, and I understand wanting to keep the unit nice and clean looking by hiding the water tank on the back side but it makes refilling it much more difficult than necessary. Otherwise, it is top notch. It includes many accessories, cleaning tools, more than one filter size, the tamper and portafilter, a little rubber stand for them, and a mini pitcher for milk steaming. I was very surprised with how fast it does things, from grinding to steaming to brewing the espresso shots it’s all really quick. Most of the time spent using it is in the preparation and cleaning. Setting it up is fairly involved, requiring cleaning and priming the pieces and the machine, and following the instructions for determining your water hardness level. Once that’s all done it’s time to start brewing, and thankfully it also has detailed guides on how to best do so, with tips on what might be wrong it things don’t look right. I am enjoying experimenting with different drinks now that I have more options than a straight plain coffee at home. It a high end machine intended for the people who enjoy coffee and the art of making the perfect cup, and it does so beautifully.

The stainless steel design of the DeLonghi - La Specialista Arte Espresso Machine looks great in the kitchen - or anywhere else! From the moment you remove it from the box, the sturdy, well-built, weight (21 lbs) of the machine lets you know that you have a quality product. It fits easily under my kitchen cabinets, yet allows enough room to remove/refill the water tank located on the back of the unit. There's no need to move the machine simply to refill the water.
Add beans to the grinder and choose between 8 grind settings. They even provide a guide on recommended settings. You can adjust the temperature levels based on your bean selection and choose between Espresso, Americano, and Hot Water. It includes options for single or double dose espresso and a steam wand for smooth milk froth for the perfect latte. Simply steam the mixture until the cup is warm and voila - it's ready.
From grinding the beans to espresso, this machine does it all. It includes everything you need for the perfect drink - just add beans and water!

Outstanding Appliance To Have At Home

This appliance is a real way of bringing a coffee shop to my kitchen. It looks great on the counter but I did have to rearrange the other appliances. I get most people might not have a kitchen with a lot of counter space and the DeLonghi La Specialista Arte is compact for all it do. If someone is a daily coffee drinker, this will make financial sense and pay for itself in a few months.
Contents in the box:
The La Specialista Arte is packaged with everything I need to get started except for the coffee. FYI remember to buy coffee beans because it grinds coffee beans.
Installing La Specialista Arte:
It is very important to read the instructions manual. It is easy if you follow the directions step by step to get familiar with the espresso machine. I honestly felt overwhelmed when I took everything out the box because I thought it would be complicated. I left all my settings on default to start off and I tweaked it after until I figure out what’s best for me.
Something that’s included is the water test. I did the test and find out that my water hardness was medium. The La Specialista has a setting for soft, medium and hard water hardness. Not having the right hardness setting will affect the taste of your coffee.
Leave a good amount of counter space for the La Specialista Arte so everything is readily available for convenience of brewing your espresso.
Using the La Specialista Arte:
I don’t think I can be as simple as the instructions provided. DeLonghi included a quick guide that list each step with a picture illustration. This made using it so easy, I decided to leave it on top of the La Specialista Arte for future reference. Now that I have my settings set all I do now is grind, tamper, brew, froth and clean the machine with a wet cloth.
Overall feeling about the espresso machine:
I’m happy to be able to make myself or someone a luxury drink when they come over. I think having something like the DeLonghi La Specialista Arte in my home is more inviting and makes guests feel welcomed. I absolutely recommend this espresso machine and I can only imagine what they are working on for the next upgrade.

As an espresso machine this is nearly perfect. You add your beans to the hopper, set the grind and dose, then press OK. The EC9155MB then dispenses perfectly prepared grounds. They include a cuff for the portafilter, tamper, and a tamping mat--all to give you the perfect setup to pull a shot of espresso. Set your temp and desired beverage and you're ready to go. I was very impressed by the speed of this machine. It delivers a perfect espresso in a fraction of the time that other machines take. The quick start guide really shows you what settings to use and how to troubleshoot your extraction to pull near perfect espresso shots at home. From everything I can tell, this machine makes it easy and delivers consistent, high-quality espresso at home.
So, why did I not give it 5 stars? I felt like the desire for perfection stopped just a little short of where it could be. Yes, you get accurate dosing, temp, grind and delivery of espresso, but so many drinks are milk-based and while the EC9155MB does a great job at steaming milk, it doesn't have the same commitment to excellence that it does with espresso. The frother is fast and effective, but the unit comes with a small milk pitcher and no thermometer. The instructions say, "once the milk jug is too hot to touch, turn off." It'd be better to have a milk thermometer included and to instruct users to turn off steam at 50 degrees Celsius. It seems like a machine that was this dedicated to precision would nail this throughout the entire process. It's a quick fix, get a small thermometer and it's perfect.
Clean up on this machine is so simple. The pucks of espresso fall right out of the portafilter, I do suggest cleaning the underside of the brewing unit with each usage. The steam wand cleans up very easy and you can quickly purge it to make sure it's 100% clean each time. I love it and find myself using it rather than going to the coffee shop.

Never been a big coffe drinker just here in there going to Biggby and Starbucks but i was hating to wait in those big lines.
Well now with DeLonghi LaSpacialista Arte all that changed. I'm a more frequent user of coffe, i enjoy it, makes me proud when i get it right(that comes with practice) and the best part i save a lot of money making my own at home!
Alright so it's not easy but just like riding a bike, once you have it figured out that's it you are good. Requires a lot of practice as mentioned in their instructions which i highly recommend to follow. If you don't like to read there are plenty of videos on Youtube as well. Now the machine comes with a lot of useful accessories and you have to understand that will make a huge difference from the type of beans you might be using, the way you ground and make the puck with freshly ground coffe to the way you froth your milk. The whole thing it's a process where you can't mess up steps. But the good thing the machine looks amazing and it's capable it's just up to you to figure it out a little!
Few tips for beginners
- Find the right coffe beans(i use espresso beans)
- Now play with the grinder selector(the brewing gauge will tell you if you got it right when will hit the optimal-zone)
- When frothing the milk please start with a quarter and keep the wand at the top of it(you will be getting a nice rich foam and use whole-milk)
That's it hope you enjoy it the way i do... it took me few days tough to make it clear.

So I am relatively new to the home espresso world so I had to be sure to do my own due diligence before writing this review. First off I'd like to say I am a Starbucks addict. I will go there daily and burn a hole in my wallet for that sweet savory caffine rush of a morning latte. However, now that I have the De'Longhi La Specialista Arte, Starbucks no longer! I admit I did not use the 'fancy' beans across the market but grabbed a pound from Starbucks of their Blonde Roast Espresso. It took me a few tries to fine tune the grind settings but once I got that I pulled a double shot that was out of this world. The Crema made it clear that I did it right along with the Optimal Range telling me I was providing the right grind/Quantity ratio. Having the milk frother built in made heating/steaming milk effortless. The cleanup overall is really simple and takes only a few minutes. Its small enough I could fit inside my apartment kitchen! Many will complain that you cannot remove the espresso beans once they are added but I didn't run into that issue - Mainly because I'm not changing beans continually. I have saved probably about almost $100 in just 2 weeks from using this machine alone. If you are a espresso addict, invest your money in this machine and it will save you thousands while providing an excellent quality espresso pull and home personalized barista feel!

Just Great Flavorful Espresso

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
As a coffee lover, and owner of different coffee machines, including an Automatic Espresso machine with 20 bars of pressure, I can attest that the De’Longhi La Specialista Espresso machine with its 15 bars of pressure extracts as much flavor as possible from my favorite coffee beans, producing rich and tasty espresso as well as other coffee beverages. I like the feeling of doing a semi-manual preparation of my coffee (as opposed to having an automatic machine): grinding the beans, tamping on the dosing funnel to make sure to get the right dose, and finally brewing the coffee. It feels like being a barista.
- Pros: powerful, different grind levels, frothing, custom dose.
- Cons: None so far.
>> First Use
First things first, reach out to the Quick Start Guide which contains colored pictures of step-by-step instructions to help you with getting your Espresso machine ready and your first coffee cup.
As instructed, I took my time to use some detergent, clean and dry all the detachable components, and I also wiped the different areas in the machine itself. I added water to the tank and made sure that the water sensor was properly positioned (there is a huge label attached to the side of the tank with that warning.) Before starting the first cleaning cycle, make sure that you have a container underneath the hot water spout, which is different than the steam wand used when frothing. I mentioned this because the drawing in the Quick Start Guide shows a water container underneath the steam wand, which you image made do the wrong thing (and spill some water.) Anyways, just some emphasis on getting the machine ready for your first brew.
For the first brew, I first selected Espresso and x2, as I was using the x2 filter cup, and selected right Dose and Grind levels (according to the Roast Chart in the Quick Start Guide) for the coffee beans I was to use. Added coffee beans. I was careful to ground a little and tamp a little, to make sure that I got the right amount of coffee in the filter cup. After several uses, I know that three “grind” cycles (three pushes) seem to fill the filter to the appropriate level. Once I got the right amount of coffee, I placed it in the portafilter in its correct position underneath the brewing unit, secured it and just pressed OK to get a nice perfect brown aromatic liquid coming out of the brewing unit.
Overall, extremely pleased with the De’Longhi La Specialista Espresso machine.
>> Coffee making
My main interest is espresso and I do some Americano sometimes. A good espresso cup takes a couple of minutes to produce, but worth the time and effort prepare the coffee and clean the utensils. I usually use dark roast as well as medium roast to get different tastes, each time I brew, the results are great, medium roasted or dark roasted, I can taste “real” coffee. I also mix medium and dark roasted beans, just need to do some experiments which one of the Grind and Dose levels to set the machine to for optimal results, but so far the taste of this combination has been insane. So, perhaps this will become my main Espresso coffee machine for the near future.
I also tried americano brewing which produces an extremely tasty americano, but that could still be a little too strong for some palates. Perhaps this is not recommended, but on those occasions, I just brew espresso then I add boiling or warm water to it (depending on who is drinking – some like their coffee warm or even cold) and get a less strong coffee for them.
>> Other notes
On the good side:
- It has a small accessory storage on the top, where you can keep the other filter or both if you need to, plus the little brush and cleaning needle.
- I can use it with coffee grinded on an external burr grinder. This is very useful if I have guests at home and there is someone who only drinks decaffeinated, I just prepare a small batch of decaffeinated coffee for them on the side without worrying to empty and clean the De’Longhi La Specialista beans container (and keep it caffeinated all the time.)
- Adding milk foam to your coffee is as easy as it gets. I seldom drink coffee with anything added to it, but my wife and some friends love a good mix of coffee and milk, and I have impressed them already.
- I found that some people find the espresso produced by this machine “too” strong (yeah! I like it that way), in such cases there is always the chance to add water.
On the not so good side (well somehow expected due to not being an Automatic Espresso machine):
- It gets a little messy. This is expected, though, since you have to manually tamp the coffee with the coffee tamper into the coffee filter before brewing. All this will inevitably cause some coffee residue to be left around, in the tamper, dosing funnel, and other components. I initially placed the La Specialista on a table covered with a white fabric and after a few cycles, coffee particles could be notices all around. I ended up placing paper towels on the table to use for the tampers and other removable parts.
- Another inconvenience, also expected, is that you need to clean the filter cup after each use.
- Filters are hard to exchange. A filter is hard pressed in the portafilter, and it takes some effort to pull it off.

Who needs a barista when…

I must admit that I’m very new to this kind of coffee/espresso maker. I mean I have experience with other espresso/coffee makers but they never came with the option to dial in your beans and press it with a tamper and a steam wand. I feel fancy, haha. At the same time this is a whole new world for me, a learning curve to say the least. After playing around with it for a few days, I still have a ways to go to create my perfect latte, but I’m thoroughly enjoying the experience. I also like that I can pretend to be a real barista and watch the evolution of my latte art skills. I’m most excited about that part.
Ok so onto the machine itself. It’s gorgeous. I feel like it needs it’s own corner or bar in our home. It looks like it’s cast in a beautiful steel finish but the body is mostly entirely made of plastic. That’s doesn’t necessarily take away from its quality and durability, but I do wish that it was made in premium quality materials and less plastic. Much less plastic. The accessories however, are not plastic and has good weight to them making it feel like it’s a premium product. The initial setup and cleaning is very easy. Most of the parts are dishwasher safe.
I don’t like that the container that holds the coffee beans is permanently attached so it’s extremely difficult to clean. If you aren’t an avid coffee drinker I would only put enough in for your one cup, so the beans don’t sit too long.
It isn’t too much different in size compared to the other espresso/coffee machines on the market. In my opinion the “La Specialista” is a great starter or entry level espresso machine for those who are new to the craft of coffee/espresso/latte making. It has all of the basics needed without compromising style and ease of use.
My only other gripe is the lack of drinks it can make but that’s because I’m a user of their digital (touchscreen) models that offer 11 or so different types of drinks. I’m not sure that’s achievable with this, as it only lists espresso, Americano and hot water. So if you know the ins and outs of coffee/espresso making, you may be able to create any style of coffee you want. But like I stated earlier this is for those, “no nonsense I take my coffee seriously” folks.
I’ve been a long time consumer of DēLonghi brand products and they have yet to disappoint.

Coffee shop espresso in the comfort of your home

The new De'Longhi La Specialista Arte Espresso Machine delivers coffee shop espresso in the comfort of your home in a beautifully designed, compact, easy to use, package. Being that this is our third De’Longhi espresso machine over the past decade, the latest La Specialista model was very familiar to us and easy to set up with minimal reliance on the instructions. Even if you are unfamiliar with their machines, or any espresso machine, I would consider it easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow and the buttons, knobs and center pressure gauge on the front of the machine are easy to understand and figure out.
Regarding set up, you will add whole espresso beans in the top container, add water to the water tank in the back of the machine and run a few priming cycles through the machine to prep it for first time use. Once set up is complete and the first water in the machine has been primed and tested using the included water hardness test strip, you’re ready for your journey to become an at home barista. You will want to adjust the grind hopper for the coarseness of the grind which I recommend starting around the middle, or “5”, grind setting and the dosing setting the same in the middle and adjust from there depending on what taste you prefer. Using the double espresso filter basket in the portafilter and selecting the x2 button on the front of the machine, connect the Dosing Funnel (which was new to me on this model) to the portafilter and insert it into the coffee grinder outlet pushing back firmly to initiate the automatic grind. Once the espresso beans are ground, remove the portafilter and place it on the included taping mat gently taping the sides to evenly distribute the ground coffee into the filter. Use the included tamper to tamp the ground coffee and remove the dosing funnel. Insert the portafilter into the brewing outlet on the right side turning it firmly to seat it in the machine before brewing. Use the knob to select whether you are brewing an espresso shot or an Americano. Using the other button, select what temperature you prefer your brew at, place either espresso cups or a coffee cup onto the grill under the brew output and press OK to start brewing. There is a steam wand on the right side of the machine which you can use to steam and froth milk for your coffee drinks which works great and is easy to clean just like the rest of the machine.
I have used several other espresso machines over the years and prefer the De’Longhi machines over all other models I have used. In my opinion, they make a statement aesthetically in any kitchen, feel more durable and, most importantly, make a better shot of espresso and an amazing Americano. I have always recommended De’Longhi machines to anyone in the market for small kitchen appliances and especially their espresso machines.

Was deciding between this and the “Breville Batista Touch Eapresso Machine”. Decided on this one because it had more grind options and pulled espresso quicker.
Dream gift for a coffee lover! I got this as a gift for sister and is obsessed! Super easy to use and many options to customize your drinks. Such a fun way to size many and practice your barista craft. Also highly recommend flying goat coffee beans. They are amazing. Overall amazing purchase. PLEASE but this over the Breville. The Breville is nice and trendy but when it comes down to logistics this one has more options, reasonably priced and just as effective if not better.
