This espresso maker machine takes a little beginning work to get set up, but it is worth it once you get the reward of a great tasting cup of espresso.
To get started it includes a scoop and small bag of espresso beans, as a heads up though, if you have hard water and need a water filter there is not one included in the packaging.
There are a lot of parts to the machine that need to be cleaned and dried before starting. There is a water test needed for setup. And then there is running water through the machine for a rinsing BEFORE making 3 espressos that will be thrown away. After all this, you are ready to make your first drinkable cup.
Instructions for setting up for a cup, whether espresso, cappuccino, americano, or iced coffee are minimal. I've been a coffee drinker for decades, just good old American cup (mug) of coffee. So making anything else is new to me. However, even with the minimal manual, I was able to make a delicious cup of espresso, and the next cup was a cappuccino, and I've also since made a cup of americano. I enjoyed both the espresso and the cappuccino, however I was not so happy with the americano. I do appreciate that the instructions included photos to show how the espresso should look when brewed correctly and incorrectly and how to remedy it if it is incorrect. With the included beans the espresso came out perfectly colored, but other beans may not so it's nice to have that included for reference. Using the built-in frother with steam adds to the luxury of having your own little coffee bar.
About the Americano cup of coffee, it was not only small for my preference, but it tasted too watered down. That can be remedied by changing the amount of beans, type of beans and coarseness of the grind. The size, however, can't. So that's just my preference, not a fault of the machine.
The grinder does a great job of grinding the beans uniformly and quickly. The water tank holds enough water to last for many cups.
I really like the size of the machine also making it deeper and less wide which helps on counter space.
While this machine can do a lot and do it very well, it can't make a carafe of coffee for times when I have company. For that reason, and my preference to make a half carafe of coffee to leisurely drink in a mug in the morning, I will still need my regular coffeemaker. But for times when I want something different this machine is a great addition. If your preference is espressos or regular cups of coffee then this is all you need. This is a great choice and I highly recommend it.

When I got home, I opened it up and tried to plug it in. It wouldn’t fit into any of my wall sockets in the kitchen. I ended up having to plug it in in the living room for it to work. There was supposed to have a water filter and it did not come with a water filter . It had missing pieces inside where I put coffee grounds in the top. It fell straight to the bottom of the expresso machine and It made a mess everywhere

The De'Longhi Magnifica Start arrived securely packaged, and unboxing it was straightforward. Inside the box were the machine itself, a water tank, drip tray, and an easy-to-follow manual. Setting it up was equally hassle-free. After filling the water tank and adding beans to the built-in grinder, I only needed a few moments to prime the machine, and it was ready to brew.
The machine’s design in black is sleek and sophisticated. Its compact footprint makes it easy to fit on most countertops without dominating the space. The controls are thoughtfully laid out on the front panel, which has a modern yet user-friendly interface. Its design gives it a professional, café-inspired feel, which adds a premium touch to any kitchen.
When it comes to brewing, the Magnifica Start is all about versatility. With options for both hot and cold espressos, I could make everything from an intense espresso shot to a more mellow, larger cup. The manual milk frother is a nice addition, allowing me to control the foam and achieve the perfect froth for lattes or cappuccinos. Each cup delivers a smooth, consistent crema, adding a nice texture and richness that elevates every sip.
The built-in grinder is a game-changer for espresso lovers. It simplifies the process by allowing me to grind fresh beans directly into the machine, which brings out the rich, full flavor of the coffee. The controls allow for adjustments to the grind size, so I could customize the strength of each cup easily. Cleanup is also a breeze; the water tank and drip tray are both removable, and the machine has a rinse cycle that helps maintain cleanliness with minimal effort.
The De'Longhi Magnifica Start Espresso Machine with Manual Milk Frothing is an impressive option for those seeking a high-quality, customizable espresso experience at home. From the smooth unboxing to its elegant look and ease of use, it brings a café-quality espresso experience right to your kitchen. With hot and cold options, customizable sizes, and the convenience of a built-in grinder, it’s a strong choice for coffee enthusiasts who appreciate quality and simplicity in equal measure! I would definitely recommend it to my friends and family, or anyone that wants something more than your traditional coffee maker.

Perfect Countertop Espresso Machine

I have to say that I have a guilty pleasure - I love a good cup of coffee and espressos. No matter when I'm out and about, I'm always down for a cup of coffee or espresso. To that end, the desire to pick up a solid at-home coffee machine that can do freshly ground espresso as well as coffee, or americanos, was a no-brainer.
For starters, I wanted something that could easily fit on a countertop and wouldn't require being stored, and wouldn't look out of place to be out all the time. The Magnifica is such a machine. At a size of 9.25" wide x 17" deep x 14" tall, it's not an insignificant machine, but it's also not as massive as some of the larger, at-home machines can be, so it was a nice compromise. It's certainly larger than a standard drip-carafe machine.
Now, more importantly, let's talk about how this makes a great cup of coffee. If you're familiar with the countertop coffee machines, like most, the Magnifica sports a removable water tank. The water tank has the option for a water filter, but we don't since we fill it with already filtered water. That helps decrease the frequency I need to descale or clean the water. I wouldn't recommend using tap water.
At the back of the tank, there's the bean bin where you pour in your desired beans. Since I'm an espresso fan, I fill the bin with espresso beans and set the desired intensity setting using the wheel inside the bean bin. Just something to note - with any coffee machine that has a built-in grinder... you're locked into those types of beans until you run through them all. It's not really easy or possible to swap beans out once you pour them in. So we usually pour in a smaller amount of beans when we want to make espressos, so that if we wanted to make regular coffee, we could without having to go through a whole bag of beans.
The espressos this thing makes taste great. There's also an option to make americanos, which I can't speak to because I'm not an americano fan, my wife is. I do also like the optional manual milk frother attachment on the front. It's nice to have the option to make cappuccinos after dinner, and the attachment is super easy to clean.
I also have to say that I appreciate that the water tray and used bean bin are all dishwasher safe. Getting the used bean bin clean can be a bit of a chore, so being able to toss it into the top rack is nice.
Bottom line - really like this machine, and glad I picked it up!

My wife and I love a nice cup of coffee. We used to go out and get coffee but realized that we were paying quite a bit of money on getting our coffee that way. We have been brewing our own coffee for a while, but we wanted to level up our home coffee shop.
When we first got this unboxed and set up, it was a little intimidating. This was a bit more advanced than our regular coffee brewer. Honestly, after we spent a little time with it, I realized how the instructions really make it very easy to get a perfect cup. It includes a water hardness tester and filter to make sure that your water is optimal for brewing. I love that it has a grinder built in and that you can adjust the coarseness of the grind. The instructions even walk you through what you need to do if your coffee is coming out too viscous or too watery. We just had to adjust the coarseness once to get it the way we wanted it.
After using it a few times, it's so easy to use. I've even used it to make myself a nice iced coffee. I also love that it has a milk steaming wand. I haven't used it yet since I don't normally add milk to my coffee, but I'm sure it will come in handy, especially around the upcoming holidays when we have friends and family over.
This coffee & espresso machine from De'Longhi has really upgraded our coffee station in our kitchen. This has become our primary brewer, and the quality of the coffee has gone up. It can be a little intimidating at first glance, but after a few minutes, you can really get it dialed in the way you want. This is an easy recommendation.

Combined to Speed up the Day

De'Longhi is well known for its coffee and espresso machines and the Magnifica is another great addition to the line combining both into one machine. Setup was simple, just remove all the stickers and plastic, then fill the tank with water. Utilizing the instruction manual, I was able to make my first espresso within 15 minutes. Set the grinder for a more robust flavor and it came out pretty well. Has a multitude of settings to dial in what you want and let it do the rest. Can make two small cups at once, iced coffees, and the frother is a nice addition to up the experience of your drinks. You can experiment with your beans or use pre-ground. Not able to use candied beans or certain milks for the frother. It does have a bigger footprint, possibly cramping the space of smaller spaces. Overall, the De'Longhi Magnifica is a great intermediate option for coffee and espresso enjoyers alike as it takes the guess work out of making a quick espresso in an otherwise busy day that most people already have.

If you’re primarily a coffee/ espresso focused household with the option to also do milk based drinks this is your machine! I note this first because if your more of a milk based drink (latte and cappuccino) drinker you should note that this is more of a manual frothing 2 step system rather than all in one auto like say the twin machine is to this one (lattecrema) vs this standard model.
That said, this has all the features I personally look for in something like this and once you set it up it’s amazingly useful. Some of those settings allow you to program amount of water, strength / intensity of flavor (which this will hold your setting to memory so it can become one touch if you repeat your drink a lot which is awesome). On that same note you can set size/quantity/amount but keep in mind that if you have a wildly different set of cups you use that will pose a problem as you would need to reset this each time. I myself have a few of the same cup I use so this isnt a problem but it is something to remember.
As mainly an americano enjoyer (also coffee/espresso) drinker this is my new pride and joy. The coffee of course is a longer pour and softer taste vs say the americano setting which will pour out the espresso and hot water separately into the same cup and creates entirely different flavor profiles so be sure to test what you prefer best (I like americano). Note, there is a 2x button on this machine and I assumed it would be doing double water with an extra grind however it does NOT do the extra grind just the water so before trying this feature keep that in mind as well. Before you really get going be sure to read the manual because if you dont run at least 3 espressos through to “get it going” so to speak you’ll be left with a very weak, flat drink lol (ask how I know, whoops).
Since this is a manual frothing machine you are going be using the pannarello wand which on this is plastic which seemed strange at first as they are usually metal but honestly it shouldn’t be a problem I dont think and kind of gives more piece of mind fumbling around lol. Now this machine vs some of the autos I like better as this allows you to fully control the temp and frothiness of the milk to your desire rather than something doing it for you. While this does take some time to get the steam going it’s worth the weight as the milk comes out very jello like and exactly what youd expect which is great as 9/10 of these have a lot of trouble getting to this point, but not here. Another plus of having a manual froth machine is since you have temp control you dont have to worry about having too hot of a drink, and as someone that likes to drink theirs immediately if possible I really like this control here. I should note this does not come with a frothing pitcher so be sure if your using this feature you have one available (possibly thermometer as well if your ocd on temp?)
Side note here were heading into fall at the moment and my kids LOVE hot coco and this machine you can really get nice hot water for this or Tea if thats your thing very easily and it comes out of the wand as well so its not tainted by the espresso flavor as it is on some other machines which I love. Another thing to note on this is that the bean hopper top is simply plastic, there is no seal on it which is kind of strange but keep this in mind I dont top up on beans because there is obviously going to be some air getting to them to dry out. Since it just sits on top, while the machine is in use it also rattles around so if you dont like that sound im sure you could put a small piece of clear tape or something to quiet it down but just note this.
This machine blends right into my kitchen with a nice classy look which I love and its not too big either. Of course it’s on the loud side while in use but it kind of has to be, right? It has the usual DeLonghi self cleaning situation going on where it makes pucks that you have to clean out and has warnings when you need to descale and such as well. This machine does have a 2 year warranty as standard which is great piece of mind and can be extended by registering online. Overall I love this machine and it’s now part of my daily routine I dont think I could live without it, coming from prior older DeLonghi machines this is a very nice upgrade and highly recommended.

De'Longhi - Magnifica Start Espresso Machine with Manual Milk Frothing
Comes in a well packaged box without any styrofoam, which is a plus. To start, there are instructions with how to prime the machine by running a few cups of expresso and tossing. I did that and then attempted to make a regular cup of coffee. I wasted a lot of coffee beans that went to the large disposal bin. This machine is fully automatic so there is not a portafilter. There is an adjustable knob for the grinding of the beans for how strong you want your coffee. The water container is on the side which is nice for access but it is a narrow container so filling directly from the filtered refrigerator spout is not as easy as some other brands. There is a strip for checking water hardness and an optional filter can be added. The spout for the coffee is an adjustable pull down spout so this prevents excessive splashing. The machine itself is nice and compact and not as large as some competitors so it would work well in a smaller kitchen. There is a wand for steaming milk but I don’t add milk to my drink so I didn’t use it nor would I want to clean it. The drip tray and used coffee grounds is nicely designed and pulls out for emptying. I found this machine to be a bit more of a challenge to use. I read the instruction manuals and watched numerous YouTube’s. I finally got a good cup of coffee but I can’t figure out how to customize the machine.I don’t think it is as intuitive as it could be. I wish manufacturers would color code the display buttons and better show step by step procedures in the manual, with color coding. I feel like you need a PhD in Cofffee prep, just to make a simple cup of coffee. After struggling to figure out how to operate this machine, I finally was able to make a really nice cup of coffee this morning, and it was really good! I find that I have a love hate relationship with these complex machines but once you taste the coffee, you are hooked. I do think the price of this machine is excessive but it is typical for this type of machine.

I’ve been using this espresso machine for a while now and I’m a pretty avid coffee drinker and I drink coffee every day. I am technically used to a manual espresso machine. Yes you can have more control over it, but man this takes the cake. Being able to just put my coffee on top and press a button and it makes the espresso perfectly every time. That’s a thing of beauty, especially in the morning when you’re tired. Out of the box the thing is nice and sleek. I will say it does take a minute to set up and get perfect but once you get it, it’s very much worth it. I did accidentally make a setting where my espresso were doing super long pours and didn’t realize how I did it. Don’t worry there is a way to reset the entire machine and trust me I had to do it. Other than that one small hiccup it’s pretty seamless. I do like how I am able to clean almost every single piece of this device. Even the actual mechanics of it come out to be easily cleaned. The machine comes with quite a bit, but the only thing it doesn’t come with is a pitcher for milk to be steamed in. This goes for a manual version. So that was kind of confusing trying to find a pitcher in the box, so you will have to buy one separately. During the set up, you can say what your water hardness is you can even set what grind setting you want to do and even has detailed pictures on if the grinder is too fine or too course. You can make sure that crema is perfect. For the most users this espresso machine is perfect for everyday use.

No more paying $7-12 for a cup of designer coffee! The new De'Longhi - Magnifica Start Automatic Coffee & Espresso Machine with Milk Frother for Hot & Iced Lattes has been a God send! It has made making a delicious beverage as simple as pushing a button. With 3 quick buttons, Espresso, Coffee, or Americana it makes it super easy to have it your way. It also has a quick selector for how intense or rich you want your coffee. It has 13 grind settings. It also has 15 bars of pressure with an auto shut off so you don't ever have to remember whether or not you cut it off after leaving your house. It makes frothing easy as well by just a quick twist of a lever.
It has a easily removable water tank for both filling and cleaning and a brewing unit also removable for easy cleaning. I love the appearance with the black and chrome look, It looks expensive.
The coffee percolates in no time time flat and tastes amazing. I'm loving the convenience of having all of my favorites under my own roof and at any time I want them. I haven't tried the iced drinks of yet but those are next on my list! I'd highly recommend one of these to anyone looking for a Coffee & Espresso machine

To avoid the many pit falls read the manual completely before trying to set up this machine.
The set-up of this machine was cumbersome, the instruction manual does not go into enough detail on this. It took quite a long time to find the proper setting to make a coffee that was drinkable. The manual stated that it would take up to five tries to get it. It went far beyond that. This machine is fully customizable, but again lacks instructions. I noticed that when you make changes to the grinding of the beans the results take two or three cycles before you can see the change. Despite these setbacks when dialed in the Delonghi Magnifica Start Espresso Machine makes good coffee and espresso. You can set the grinder to your liking. The better the beans the better the coffee.
Initially the set-up wastes a lot of supplies. I have never had a machine that requires so much waste to set up.
The machine is easily cleaned as most of the tanks just detach and reattach quickly. The machine comes with a package of descaler, if the internal hot water tank needs further cleaning it can be removed by detaching the side of the machine and washing and rinsing it.

This is my first coffee machine ownership experience. After 5 minutes of reading the quick guide instructions I was able to enjoy a nice cup of Espresso. The flavor is nice. I also made some very black coffee and learned how to dial it in for my liking. I enjoy using the espresso feature to make some alternative coffee beverages as well like Pero. The Delonghi Magnifica Start Machine is easy to clean and maintain as well. You can have it taken apart and rinsed within a few seconds. I do with there were more thorough instructions besides the quick start guide to help someone as new as me understand all the small extra features this thing has. I personally don't grind my own coffee beans I do Pre Ground. I cant comment on the grinder feature but it does seem to work as I have turned it on. I am enjoying this product. I have used it every morning since I have gotten it. I also have not used the steamer. I dont really know what to do with that and there was no instructions on the application.

I come from the world of pods and drip coffee. I decided to upgrade. I am glad I did but the trip was long and had some twists and turns.
First you must thoroughly read the included instruction booklet which is very well written. I was constantly referring to it during my initial setup. Once I had it setup the book was not really necessary as making beverages is quite easy. It is a good reference if an alarm appears and when its time to descale.
The initial setup was time consuming and used a lot of beans. The booklet says not to expect much for the first 4-5 cups of coffee. So I was at 5 cups and still not satisfied. I then changed the grinding level to produce a stronger coffee. This change is not reflected until after two cycles. Now I'm at 7 cups. I was getting frustrated but finally it prepare the most amazing cup of coffee and espresso along with a nice creme ! Much better than anything else I have had. This is no exaggeration. This is with a rather inexpensive bean.
A quick cleaning cycle is performed before the first brew in the morning and another when it is powered off. I find myself emptying the drip tray a bit more often but there is an indicator when this needs to be done.
I can control the volume and temperature served for the brew. I am using the standard settings for this but may increase each it a bit.
The steam will froth milk very well but the hot water available to pre-warm cups is only 170 degrees unfortunately a bit low for my taste to prepare tea.
Included in the box is a water hardness strip, which really did not work for me but I know I have soft water. An optional filter is available for the water tank. A descale solution package and a measuring cup for pre-ground coffee is also included.
This is a great machine and because there are so many parameters available to me produce a brew to my liking it took a bit of patients to setup. I believe it was well worth it as I am enjoying the best coffee I have ever made at home, and without very expensive beans. I can recommend this product to family and friends without any reservations. Goodbye pods.

Overall good product and we're happy with it. I would give it 5 stars but theres one thing i would recommend improving which is the frequency of the rinsing cycle and the amount of rinse water that ends up in the drip tray. We make about 2 cups a cofee each day and by the end of the week the drip tray is full. Again, its still a good machine.
