Customers regard the Demon's Souls remake very favorably, particularly praising its stunning graphics, smooth combat, and fast load times. Many appreciate the updated visuals and performance, although some find the game's difficulty intense and the price point high. The lack of frequent checkpoints is also a recurring criticism. A must have for action RPG fans!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bottom Line: Demon’s Souls remakes the original with all of enhancements one would expect on PS5. Pros: Next gen graphics; fast load times; all the complexities and intricacies of an action RPG Cons: legendary Soulsborne difficulty; maintains some of the annoying game mechanics from the early Soulsborne games Review: Demon’s Souls is a remake of FromSoftware’s eponymous PS3 entry, which introduced many of the core gaming mechanics of the Soulsborne series - viz., Dark Souls 1-3 and Bloodborne. If you’re a fan of any of those games and own a PS5, you’ll definitely want to pick up this game. The graphics look phenomenal on the PS5 (especially if you played Soulsborne games on PS4) and the hardware produces barely noticeable load times. Like other games in the series, the player’s character is infinitely customizable in terms of appearance, attributes, armor, weapons, etc., which opens up many different play styles and approaches. As a genre defining action RPG, the emphasis is on exploration and combat rather than questing or interaction with NPCs. Demon’s Souls maintains the legendary difficulty of Soulsborne games; there is no difficulty setting, and enemies (especially bosses) require strategy and expert timing to defeat. Grinding for levels is often necessary to progress, and even after, victory is not assured. As a result, some gamers may not find the game accessible as they get “stuck” on a boss and are unable to proceed. As a remake, Demon’s Souls retains many of the (in my opinion) annoying game mechanics from the early games that were later removed, such as needing consumables to avoid being a phantom (50% health penalty) and armor upgrades (rather than focusing on weapon development).

Fell prey to Leftist nonsense, but still Solid.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluepoint was supposed to do a remake... not a reimaging... they took far too many creative liberties, and also forced in their leftist politics. Games with all white casts apparently aren't allowed in 2023. Forced in women, too.. because ya know... diversitah... Game also ditched Male/Female genders, and degrades us instead, by using Type A and Type B.... SICK OF THAT. They arrogantly completely replaced all the musical scores with their own, awful scores, they mucked up the lore a bit by completely reimagining boss/enemy character models and the environments. That aside... the game looks absolutely gorgeous, and the gameplay is smooth and fun. You really feel the impact of the heavier weapons too. Strongly recommend immersive vibration turned on. If you can look past the annoyance of FORCED diversity and race swaps, and other political crap, and only give af about gameplay, then the game is strongly recommended. It is however, a challenging game. If you hate challenging yourself, stay away. If you love a good and fair challenge, then the game is pretty much a must-buy for you. I gave the game 3-stars, but the game is by no means bad when it comes to performance, load times, gameplay, and graphics. Those are rock solid.

Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Demon’s Souls remake is a masterful reimagining of the original, delivering an experience that’s both visually breathtaking and as challenging as ever. The graphics are absolutely stunning, with beautifully rendered environments and incredibly detailed character models that take full advantage of the PlayStation 5's hardware. The atmospheric design, from the dark, foreboding landscapes to the intricate lighting effects, immerses you in a world that feels both haunting and alive. Gameplay-wise, the remake retains all the core mechanics that made the original such a beloved classic—tight combat, strategic depth, and an unforgiving difficulty curve. The addition of smoother controls and faster loading times makes the experience even more enjoyable without compromising the game’s challenging nature. The sound design and haunting score further elevate the immersive world, keeping you on edge throughout your journey.

Veteran Demon's Souls player perspective
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I played this game back in 2009, and it's one of the most memorable experiences I've had in gaming and still is one of my favorite game's ever. I've now completed two playthroughs of the remake, but this is coming from someone who has probably spent a few hundred hours with the original game. I can tell you this game is a true remake in the sense all the enemies are in the same place, same combat, same weapons, etc. It's just now the prettiest game I've played, has improved sound and score, and plays like a dream. If you've never played this or any other Souls game expect your first playthrough to be rough, and probably take about 40+ hours. Probably shave 10-20 hours off of that if you've played other Souls games. The thing with Demon's Souls or any Souls game there is more than one way to play it, and it only gets tougher on new game plus. There is a lot to explore, and there is a world tendency mechanic, which can dramatically change how you play the game. I'm going to say this game is not for the casual gamer, but if you're open minded and willing to take on the challenge you're in for a treat. The Dark Souls games made some quality of life improvements over this game, so if you're coming from one of them keep that in mind. However, this game literally created a new genre of games, and spawned a decade's worth of sequels and imitators. Overall, for me I couldn't have asked for a better launch title for the PS5, and I hope others get the same enjoyment out of it as I did.

Death Reborn
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're up for a rewarding challenge for your PS5 then look no further than this gem. On the technical side of things, the massively improved visual fidelity and especially performance from the 2009 original game makes this a perfect showing of what's hopefully in-store for the PS5 going forward. While visuals and audio aren't a perfect replica of the original and will surely be divisive for the hardcore fans of the original, it's incredibly impressive and engrossing to behold in-person and is surely a benchmark experience for the console crowd. The fluidity of combat in performance mode and lack of any lengthy loading makes it that much easier to recover from any death you may encounter. And you will die. The developer Bluepoint has made sure to make little change to the original title's general gameplay, meaning that the deliberate combat will see you dying, grinding, learning and eventually succeeding the challenge that it provides. Figuring out how enemies, bosses, and even some of the game's upgrade paths and mechanics work are all apart of the rewarding design, providing a learning curve very similar to classic arcade games or titles such as the Resident Evil series. The more you play, the more makes sense and the more you can excel and appreciate about how it's thoroughly the game is designed and interconnected. If you can weather the challenge and steel yourself to the horrors of the decaying Boletaria then you'll be treated to a great sense of accomplishment that's hard to find elsewhere. And with a myriad of different ways to approach the game, the amount of secrets and goodies that you will surely miss on a first go through, and the increasing difficulty of its New Game+ modes, there is a lot of value to be had if you are willing to spend time with the game and experiment. Even with one playthrough however, it's more than meaty enough to not feel underwhelming thanks to its classical design philosophies. Out of any PS5 launch title I think I would recommend this one the most out of a gameplay/value perspective, but I feel it will also be leaving the strongest impression on players as the 9th generation of consoles soldiers on.

A Solid if Unspectacular Souls entry
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A solid Souls experience (indeed, the first) with an absolutely gorgeous new set of paint (perhaps *still* the best-looking console game of this generation) and some appreciated quality of life improvements over the original. That being said the gameplay definitely shows that this was a new formula they were trying to figure out, and there are some annoyances as a result. The game can be obtuse even from a veteran Souls' player perspective, esp when it comes to upgrade paths and material farming. There are no checkpoints (bonfires/sites of grace in later games) so aside from the few levels where you can unlock a shortcut or two, death will result in a full runback of the entire level. This is ameliorated somewhat by the fact that these are by far the easiest bosses in all of Souls-dom, where their art and lore design far exceed the quality of the actual fights. Overall, it still ended up being about a 30 hour experience from start to finish the first time through, and it was enjoyable, if not as transcendent as something like Bloodborne or Elden Ring. Probably worth it just to show of your PS5's graphical capability alone.

Bluepoint Studios has done it again!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bluepoint Studios has done it again with a wonderful remake. This game looks gorgeous and its 60fps mode feels great. The load times are quick. I didnt time them bit I would say around 3 seconds to load into an area. This game can be challenging to those not familiar with the Dark Souls franchise so buyer beware. That said, there is no challenge in this game that is insurmountable. If at first you don't succeed, keep trying. This game is worth every penny.

Demon Souls Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Demon Souls is a fantastic game that can be frustrating and challenging to play, but overall leaves you feeling satisfied. The graphics are improved in the remake, environments look stunning in different areas of the game. The game play is crisp and clean running at 60 frames. In this game it's expected of you to die, the difficulty might turn people off, but others might find it rewarding as take on terrifying bosses and come out on top.

Just keep rolling...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I remember playing this game on the PS3 and having no clue what I was doing. Revisiting this game now, after experiencing Dark Souls and Bloodborne, is like playing a brand new game in the series. Definitely difficult but don't let that stop you from playing. It's so rewarding when you finally kill that boss that you've died to so many times.

Prepared Soul
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wonderful experience. It was nice to tap into the roots of the Souls. My issue is personal, so I gladly give this a 5 star. If you care about the glory and satisfaction of rocking bosses, this game is a push over in comparison to its successors. Combat is smooth, better than most Souls games and definitely has an intense weapon crafting system. I was pretty stoked jumping into it. Learned a lot too late on things like Tendancy and benefits of full send to either end of the spectrum. Beat the game at 32 hours with wasting about 8 hours of pure farming for +5 weapons. Im a sucker for Dex builds as I feel they present the greatest challenge. Difficulty 2/10. Fun 10/10 Gameplay 10/10 Graphics 10/10 Boss Fights 3/10. Overall Experience 10/10. Like i said, its just personal for my feelings. Solid game otherwise.

demons souls
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a remake of the original demons souls which came out in 2009. The graphics are pretty, combat feels tight, great sound design. It is still very much based on the original game, with only a few new details. Probably on the easier side for a soulslike game, which is still challenging.

A Must for any PS5 owner.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the game to buy with any PS5. The game is a remake of the original PS3 release back in ‘09. It is the game that defined difficulty for its spiritual successor series, “Dark Souls.” And if you’re familiar with the Souls series than you can expect a challenge only those willing to put themselves through it but can ultimately overcome. Bosses are much easier compared to later Souls game but the environment and the lead up to them are far more difficult with very little room for error. You will die again and again but thanks to the incredibly fast load times. You’ll be back to tackle on any challenges you will face in no time. The game doesn’t utilize the dual sense as much. But the visuals in this game are absolutely breathtaking. Especially if you choose the option of 60 fps which I do highly recommend you use. Overall the game is difficult and beautiful and it’s the game that must be owned if you have a PS5.

Beautiful masterpiece that has some bad design.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a masterpiece. It's beautiful and deep and engrossing. However it does have it's warts. Very far apart checkpoints, for example. If you die, the walk back to the boss is long and boring, and tedious full of enemies. Newer games in the franchise corrected these mistakes so expect this game to show it's age design-wise. Another example of poor design, the last boss of the game has a very long elevator ride where you do nothing. Nothing at all. Each time you die you have to run all the way back and then ride that thing up. However, if you can stomach these weird choices, you find a masterpiece of a game that has true next-gen graphics and sound design and a beautifully crafted world. This game is HARD, do not expect to breeze through it.

An unforgiving but beautiful and rewarding journey
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original release on PS3 was incredibly memorable to me, with its level design and thematic settings. It's a testament to Bluepoint's efforts that I hardly recognized the remade levels in this latest iteration. The graphics in general and the instantaneous loading times are a good showcase of what the PS5 is capable of. As for the gameplay, players will be met with grueling but rewarding challenges. The levels themselves are relatively difficult, perhaps somewhat moreso than in other Soulsborne titles. However, this makes it more rewarding to arrive at the actual bosses who are memorable albeit a bit less inspired than, say, Dark Souls or Bloodborne bosses. The release price of $70 is a bit steep, but depending on whether you have the tenacity to see this game through, this could be easily worth it. If you're on the fence about Souls-like difficult games, you may want to hold off for a price drop.

Great visuals, insane difficulty, good fun.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Gorgeous visuals. Difficulty is pretty brutal. It's easy to get frustrated and walk away for a while, but the game is good enough to where you'll want to come back. With the PS5 library as limited as it is, I felt alright paying full price on this one.

If You Can Handle It, It's Worth Experiencing
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is beautiful. It takes advantage of the next gen capabilities of the PS5. Hardly any loading, and when it does, it's nearly instant. The graphics are sharp and the framerate is perfect (in performance mode at least). It doesn't utilize ray-tracing, but it will still impress you visually. As far as the gameplay goes, it is very difficult. This isn't a typical third-person action game. The Souls/Bourne genre require you to concentrate on timing and patience. You will die A LOT and there is much backtracking and repeating routes. You will end up knowing these levels very well. If you're not prepared to dedicate yourself to learning the ins and outs of this game to beat it, just steer clear of anything with Souls or Borne in the title. But I recommend every "gamer" to give this one a shot. The whole experience of Demons Souls is well worth the hair you'll lose.

Amazing game for new comers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to write a review for those people that never played a should game...because that was me. I played Bloodborn for 10 hours and didn't enjoy it. I had no intention of getting this game. However I went thru a phase where I wanted hard games. I saw reviews that said it was the best PS5 game and best looking game this generation so far. Both staments are correct I found out. So I got this on sale. It is now my favorite PS5 game. This game, much like Returnal...rewards you for playing. You can unlock shortcuts in every level. This makes death really not that bad. The game is incredible looking. Like really really good. I never played the one for PS3. If you own a PS5, get this game. I can't tell you how much fun, addicting and incredible it is.
