Customer Ratings & Reviews

First time owning a Denon AVR. I primarily use it for watching movies. I have a PS5, Blu-ray Player & AppleTV connected to it as well. No issues with connections. Sounds great!

Oh my gosh. I upgraded from a Sony Strh790 and this is in another galaxy. The imaging, separation, and frequency response is in another league. Self calibration is freaking awesome (PRO TIP: take the doggo out of the room first lol). Wired network connection provides active firmware updates, and the internet radio feature supports lossless HiDef audio streaming like FLAC. ARC input is HDMI 2.1 compliant so you can feed Dolby Digital raw and uncompressed to this bad boy right from your TV if your TV is so equipped. Now throw in being able to tell Alexa to mute the home theater because this Denon provides smart home access....

I love this receiver very highly quality for the price point. I think Best Buy has a good listening room for higher end equipment that won’t leave you broke. One tip I have is make sure your tvs hdmi arc is enabled before trying to set up!

Denon 1800 AVR is my first true AVR and I couldn’t be happier. I am driving Klipsch speakers and Audessey calibrates all around the room. GUI is very easy to use, microphone and tripod calibrations are easy to execute. One note, and I think this is generic HDMI handshaking, some HDMI cables will be slow communicating with a TV, especially in HDMI 2.1. If you run into this, swap and go to a lower(older) HDMI cable and run speaker setup and calibrations. (Most of calibrations are cable path losses and free space path loss). This was was my only thing I’ve noticed thus far. Oh, and it has pre outs if you ever want to expand out your system!

We purshased a new home and had speakers built into the ceiling upstairs, downstairs, and outside in every area, we want to be able to watch and listen to something different all at the same time with this Devon receiver it became possible! The amazing guys from Best Buy came to the house helped us do all our ordering from the TVs to the sound bars to the receivers then two weeks later brought all our new stuff and came and installed it all! They completely set up everything for us from Netflix to everything and show us how to work everything! That’s customer service in home ever had!

This product was recommended to us by an electronics specialist after our Onyko stopped working well. We purchased this item, it was installed and we are thrilled by the sound and the blue tooth capabilities. Best Buy offers a 2 month price guarantee for their members. I am a bargain hunter and about a month after we purchased the Denton it went on sale for more than $100 less. It was a 48 hour sale and my husband rushed to Best Buy and he was reimbursed the difference in cash, with no questions asked. So far we are very happy with our purchase!

I just got mine set up yesterday. I had someone come in and do it. It’s replacing a denon avr-1712. I haven’t tried all the options yet, but love what I have used. I have the option to add a 2nd zone. I can play music off my phone and control the volume with my phone. I run my tv sound through the receiver and love that I turn off both of them with the tv remote. I have the denon iPod add on that I will be testing out today. I also have a Sony 50 cd player hooked up. That will get tested out this weekend also. I keep my equipment for a long time. I’ll be able to add an 8k tv when prices come down.

Best upgraded receiver I could afford. Sounds great. Setting it up took some time. It's all online no paper instructions. Good 2 go.

It's a great value for the price because it implements innovation and technology with simplicity and superior sound quality.

The receiver works just the way I expect it makes my whole surround sound of my Samsung TV. Much better.

Very satisfied with this product and the installation by the Geek Squad. I had an issue and they resolved it with expediency. From the sales staff throughout the installation, everyone was so informed, professional, and ensured that I was satisfied completely. Thanks!

Works well for our needs, which are not high level but needs to work with older speaker system, PS4 and older tv (for now). No complaints.

The AVR as a part of home theater system recommended by Best Buy’s works like a charm

Read reviews and your research they sold me a cheap receiver that won’t turn on and has a consistent, red, blinking light even with all speakers unplugged.

I purchased this AVR to replace an ancient Cambridge AVR (vintage 2008) that was showing signs of age. My requrements are to connect both audio and video sources, which consist of a turntable, a Blu-ray player, a Roku, and a gaming/media computer. My configuration is to use the AVR as a central hub to connect the devices. With the exception of the turntable, all the devices connect to the AVR via HDMI cables, including eARC for TV return audio to the AVR. Installation instructions are very good. Besides the AVR itself, the product includes a microphone for setting up sourround sound. Compared to my previous AVR, the Denon is loaded with features, including Bluetooth and Internet radio streaming. And with that is a minor learnng curve, which I expected and don't mind. About CEC. After many experiments, I have found that CEC is not feasible with my configuration. Much of that has to do with CEC being a soft standard that is implemented a little differently with other devices. With CEC enabled on the AVR and other devices, it was really great to control devices with one remote most of the time. However, intermittently, upon power up, the TV would not power up and the AVR would hang. I had to power cycle the AVR. I don't attribute the issue to the AVR. I spoke with Denon support and found that CEC, if it works, is great. But, as I noted, it is not consistent from device to device. After many configurations and cable swaps, I decided that the best thing to do is not use CEC and not use the CEC port on my TV. My suspician is that the SONY Bravia TV is the culprit since it is a little flaky in other areas. At any rate, these comments on CEC are not a reflection on the Denon AVR--they are a comment on the state of the standard and implementation of it from devices to device. About eARC HDMI, I found that when using the eARC HDMI port on the TV, the video and audio would blank out intemittently. Talking with Denon support, they concluded that it is an HDMI EDID protocol issue. One option is to use bypass adapters for eARC HDMI. The other recommended solution is to use optical out as the TV audio input to the AVR. That configuration limits you to Surround Sound 5.1, which is fine for me. With others, it may be a concern and requires using the bypass adapters. Again, as with CEC, I blame that issue on the SONy Bravia TV. One minor criticism I have of the AVR is volume control. It is a bit touchy and ramps up and down fast when holding the remote button down. I contacted Denon support, and the only advice they offered is to use the app on my phone to avoid that sensitive jumpiness of volume control on the remote. The app volume control is a slider and works great. I have gotten used to the sensitivity of the remote volume control. Overall I am very satisfied with the AVR. Surround sound is so much better than my previous AVR (too many reasons to get into here). The AVR has many features, is easy to set up, and easy to use. If you try CEC and experience odd behavior, I don't view that as a problem with the AVR. That is an issue with CEC. As well, you may experience issues with eARC depending on the TV attached to the AVR.

This Denon receiver is everything I've wanted and works great!! My media room never sounded better and it works perfectly with my LG 100-inch TV.

When I purchased this model, I questioned it's power capacity. I did not want to be underpowered for fact this unit is providing power to seven channels. In addition, I was upgrading from the Sony STR DN1010, 110 watts per channel receiver. However, with that said, there are subtle differences between the AVR-X1800H, and the AVR-2900H. Cost, Wattage, Connectivity options. Some minor aesthetics. Mode buttons are Black on the X1800H, and brushed aluminum on the X2900H. Antennas are removeable on the X2900H, attached on the X1800H. For some reason, Denon dropped the location of the HDMI inputs by an inch on the X1800H. Interesting. The X2900H also has Dual TV/ Video Outs. Something I was unaware of. Oh Joy! There one thing that I would like to make clear. The little Red Light near the power button. I believe it's referred to as the Red Light of honor. When I connected my receiver, and it was in standby mode, that red light was on. I went into a panic, and I googled the issue. Apparently, when the receiver becomes overheated, this little red light comes on. I hadn't had my unit on for more than ten seconds. It's the "Standby" mode light. But you wouldn't know that. All the pictures that I looked at, even on Denon website, display only the white light. So I contacted Denon's tech support. Come to find out, the red light needs to be "flashing" than there should be reason for concern. My Sony posted the Standby mode to the display. I know, my Subwoofer, TV, and Players all have a red light in Standby mode. But hey, the hits that I received when googling mentioned nothing that the light had to be flashing. Darn AI!!!!! In general, these two models are reliable products. The soundstage is phenomenal. Channel separation is excellent. The ability for system expansion is somewhat endless. Overall cabinet design is, well, typical. A rectangular box with a display, two knobs and buttons. Can't get any more creative than that. My Livingroom is considered small to average. I know what some of you are thinking. The X1800H would have been fine. But, I just like to know that I can depend on a little more power when needed. Now comes the fun part. Audio Calibration. Even though I am standing to the side, the audio test signals remind me of being in the middle of a T2 movie during war time. My neighbors just love hearing that. LOL The only thing that I was disappointed about was the limitation of the Back Speakers/ Height Speakers. It is either one or the other. Yes, there is the X3900H, but I didn't want to shell out two grand (including Tax) on a AV Receiver. So, to compensate. I have both L and R Back Speakers tied in with the L and R Height Speakers. When I want to watch Dolby Amos encoded movies, I disconnect the speaker wires from the Back Surrounds. When I want that full 7.1.2, I just remove the wires from the Height Speakers. I checked with Denon's Tech Department just to be certain that my idea was not far fetched. I was told, "not an issue". In fact, I can create a preset for both configurations. Getting back to the system light. I wish that they had chosen a less noticeable color. Say blue, green, but white! You can change the display brightness, but not the power light. Anyway, Happy Listening!

Great unit with plenty of features and quality build. So far it has been a pleasure to use and easy to set up and adjust with the Audyssey app.

Excellent receiver!! Amazing sound with plenty of connections. AirPlay works great and setup is super easy with on-screen step by step instructions

Upgraded to the AVR-X1800H from a Denon receiver that was about 15 years old and didn't have HDMI plugs. I'm extremely happy with the purchase. Setup was super easy with the included microphone. The only thing I changed afterward was the center channel level. On screen menus were also a nice change compared to the previous receiver as well as the app. Between the two, you have lots of control over setup as well as changing modes. I appreciated the salesman at BB who did not try to upsell me after we spoke about my room setup. I then flipped it around and asked what I would gain if I bought the X2800H and he said a little better circuitry, but nothing perceptible in sound given I did not have the up firing or ceiling mounted Atmos speakers. I do have a 5.1 setup, and the receiver does have virtual height capability, which I can hear in movies like Top Gun Maverick. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.
