Great mid-range AVR for doing 7.1. You need to know your way around the settings of a newer AVR to properly set up, but there is a built-in setup assistant. Great for Apple AirPlay if you use that, no drop-outs etc. Separate EQ for each speaker is nice for fine-tuning.

Tons of power. Lots of in / outputs. iOS app is a bit weak, but it does the job. Good looking unit and not too overwhelming for my spouse to operate. Very flexible with 3 unique zones and lots of assignable power options.

Great receiver for anyone looking for sound quality and lots of connectivity. The image upconversion is very decent, and all sources look great (HD+) on my 60-inch plasma TV. The setup was straight forward and the result was a very balanced and natural surround sound system.

I replaced a Pioneer Elite that I got 10 yrs out of before the amp went out. I like loud Rock Music and this Receiver kicks Butt. I had this up to about 75% power and it was as loud as my Maxed out Pioneer...plenty of power to spare...love the YouTube option too....Great connectivity. I also recommend Geek Sqwuad to set it up to get thie most out of this great Receiver.

The new Denon AVR-X5200W is absolutely AWESOME! I have owned Denon products for many years and tried all of the newer models including the 4520 which I had to return three of them for overheating issues and cheap parts. The 4311 model to me was a great receiver and after purchasing the 4520 and returning I ended up buying another 4311 from a friend after selling my first one. Now the newest model X5200W is by far a major step up in the sound and with ATMOS its truly incredible! After adding ceiling speakers for the added dimension of ATMOS I have never heard such amazing sound ever in a home theater. I am running 4 Klipsch LaScala subs, all in front with the L & R having the KPT-904 tops. Surrounds are all Klipsch KPT-100's. For the speakers in the ceiling I used several types of Klipsch surrounds with half success in what I thought sounded OK, but ended up using the Mirage Omni 150 speakers mounted upside down. OMG after playing the ATMOS Demo Clip I new that this would be a receiver to keep. Without hesitation I highly recommend the new build amps/ATMOS Denon X5200W. Its a winner!!

Value purchase for an amp that does a lot more than you would expect in an open box. Love it in my home theatre.

The first AVR-X5200 I bought had a problem with the Bluetooth function. Thankfully I had Geek Squad protection and they traded me for a new unit. The next AVR-X5200 lasted for almost a year, before having serious "Protection Mode" problems. Even playing the unit at 40% it would not go for longer than 25 minutes before going into protection mode. Then it would not stop going into protection mode. Soft resets took over 2 hours, I did several of these, still it would not play more than 25 minutes. Also, this unit ran very Hot, even with plenty of air space. The AVR-X5200 was a great unit while it lasted. Very strong, Super Clarity, but I expected more for this money - something that would last without problems. I now own an AVR-X7200 which is awesome and runs very cool. Only time will tell if this will last.

This receiver was designed for 4k but does not support 4k video. Insane concept!! No hdcp2.2! I bought mine as an open box at a great price so it's not a problem for me but at retail, you're screwed.

Awesome Power and Sound - If It is Working

Had my AVR-X5200W professionally installed by Best Buy Geek Squad. I also purchased a Definitive Technology Center Channel, the 8060 model. I have two Definitive Technology Towers and a Yamaha Sub. Have all of this working with my new Sony XBR - 79 inch 4K TV. I was amazed by the Power and clarity of the Denon 5200 Receiver. Will blow you out of the room if you are up near full power and it remains very clear at these levels - zero distortion. Unfortunately, all features only remained in working order for about 6 hours after install! Initially we established a Bluetooth link with my iPhone and playing music through this link produced some of the best sound. After about 6 hours, this Bluetooth link would no longer pair. Also noticed that the USB port on the front did not work. Called Denon myself to troubleshoot and learned that the Bluetooth and front USB port use the same internal card - all signs point to a bad card. On a new, high dollar receiver from Denon, I would not expect immediate problems. Makes me question quality of materials used and or manufacturing processing by Denon. Thankful that I purchased the extended warranty from Best Buy. After speaking with a Store Manager, they have agreed to order a new unit and schedule a single appointment where Geek Squad will bring out a new unit and reinstall / set-up the new unit take the current one. Hoping this problem is just a fluke and that the new unit will provide several years worth of solid, trouble free, performance. I am amazed by the performance of this system, truly excellent sound quality, but all features need to operate properly, without giving the owner trouble and causing owners to spend additional time and effort due to poor quality materials / workmanship. I would still recommend this unit, but also highly recommend buying extended warranties with in home service.

    An outstanding receiver

After deciding to replace my Onkyo TX-NR929, I read many online reviews of home theater receivers. I eventually narrowed my choices down to the Marantz SR7009, the Denon AVR-X7002, or the Denon AVR-X5002. I eventually settled on the latter, since it offered the features that I wanted at the lowest cost in the most attractive package (I didn't care for the front panel design of the Marantz, and the AVR-X7002 was very expensive). As is often the case, the user's manual was very confusing, and I couldn't make much sense if it. Fortunately, the onscreen setup guide is excellent, the best that I have seen (compared to those of Onkyo, Pioneer and Yamaha). Initial setup, including Wifi connection and Audyssey processing, took about half an hour, and the results were perfect. The ability to tune each subwoofer channel separately was especially useful. After that, though, I became quite confused. The "amp assign" function with its related speaker selections made no sense to me at all. I am running an 11.2 system and, at first, I could only achieve 9.2 processing. Eventually, after trying several different speaker selections, I was able to get output on all channels. The performance of this unit is remarkable. It produces a wide, deep and very detailed soundstage, with excellent transient response. In comparing it to its Onkyo predecessor, it is like a Porsche next to a '60s muscle car: refined and sophisticated instead of crude and powerful. Surround effects in movies pan from back to front and side to side as they should, and are very well defined. With symphonic music, one is able to visualize the locations of the instruments of the orchestra in both width and depth. No matter what I have listened to through this unit, it has sounded better than ever before. There is one thing that I do not like: the source selector on the front panel, which has no detents, and feels as if it is rotating through cold molasses. It is best to ignore it and use the remote to select sources.

This unit sounds great, I dont have the ceiling speakers installed yet, but still sounds great. The Unit overheats, I exchange it for another and it still overheats. I used a very small personal fan on it, problem solved.

I bought this item brand new in the original packaging sealed by manufacturer for $1400 off of eBay dealers. AVRX5200 and AVR7200 models are the only models in DENON that are made in Japan. The rest of the lower models are made in China and elsewhere. I bought this to replace the AVR-2311CI, when I unpacked it and lifted in my hands I immediately felt the difference in weight between the two models although the product dimension are the same. Heating is not an unusual phenomena in receivers, obviously this machine packs the state of the art technology and features. I did setup for the most part and it's working flawlessly. There are a couple of settings that needs to be changed and one of them is when I turn it on, it goes to the assigned input source (Sat/STB) for a brief moment then switches to DVD input. Then I have to manually switch back to Satellite input. I'm sure this is occurring by some conflicting settings and there's a way to corrected. I just haven't had the time to browse through the settings. One of the reviewers complained about overheating, and put a small fan on it to cool it off. This method is not recommended because the fan will actually isolate the heat inside and create even more problems. The heat is escaped throught the vents and that's normal. The machine is designed to sustain the heat process. However, the manufacturer is advising the consumers to unplug the power source from the power outlet when the receiver is not in use. This receiver has a pass though technology built-in as well as live components such as Bluetooth, wi-fi that constantly are in use and in command. Even it you power it off from the remote control or pushing the power button on the receiver, the receiver will still work, you can actually watch the TV while the receiver is off. That's why either you have to set it up to consume less energy or just unplug it from power outlet. Additionally, I recommend to set this receiver in an open-face console and seperate from other devices (not to set another device on top of it), to allow the heat to escape. I would not recommend to seek for solutions to chill the air. If it was necessary the manufacturer would have installed internal fans to cool the receiver. The heat usually emits from its internal amplifyer. That's normal. This particular model is made in Japan. I trust their workmanship.
