Great photography/videography tool

I’m not a big fan of ring lights, as it seems that you can always tell when a person is using one. If that person has glasses, forget about it. But this Y-shaped light really intrigued me, both for video calls and just for using to take better-lit photos. I’ve never heard of this company before, but so far I’m really impressed. For starters, the entire package of this light is compact and solid. It has heft and doesn’t feel like one of the arms is just going to snap off if slightly over-extended. And it’s this design that’s really making this light prove to be a useful tool in all kinds of applications. Heck, even if you just want a super bright flashlight with a rechargeable battery… this could be that light!
You can read all the specs in the product description, but the color temps and brightness levels are as advertised and give you great options for matching any other lighting in your room (another pet peeve about folks using ring lights). The included remote is super handy AND magnetically attaches to the base. You can turn on one, two, or all three lights at a time. You can put the lights in a strobe mode that pulses each individual bulb in succession. The effect on video is somewhat akin to appearing as if you’re in a room with the TV on. The battery life is more than I’d ever imagine needing and charges via USB-C (thank goodness). Again though, it’s the design that’s the main benefit of this light over others. You can configure it in various options and get light on your subject’s face in a way that’s actually pleasing instead of overwhelming. (See photo) If that kind of thing matters to you, then this is a terrific inexpensive option with a ton of flexibility.
There are a few things I dislike. If you fully extend the arms in the Y shape so that the upper two bulbs are bent forward over the base then the whole until will topple over. I question why they made it this way, and yet maybe there’s a use case where you will want to bend the lights to this point and just hold the base in your hand to balance it? Seems unlikely. Also, to turn on the unit you have to HOLD down the power button for a few seconds. That seems very counter-intuitive. I thought my unit was defective at first, or needed charging. And while the remote is really great in functionality, I wish the buttons lit up slightly or that there was at least a little bit of texture on the power button to help distinguish it from the others. When the light is on, it is so bright that it makes seeing the dark buttons on the dark remote difficult. The circle design of the remote means you will never be able to tell which end is up just on feel alone. That can and hopefully will be improved in future models. Lastly, unfolding the arms themselves requires a bit of searching until you get used to it. A slightly deeper groove at the pull points may have made this easier.
All in all though, I really am happy with the light and expect to get a lot of use out of it. And, God willing, not just on Zoom.

Portable, Effective Lite for Video

The Digipower Trimate seems pretty unique when it comes to personal video lighting. Instead of a ring shape, the Trimate is made up of three LED “arms” that fold down into a compact cylinder shape when not in use. This makes it super portable – it fits perfectly in a side pocket of my bag.
The folding action also double as a way to aim the light. The Trimate is stable enough to stand upright on its own, but only on a flat and level surface. For any other positioning, there’s a tripod mount that works just as expected.
The lighting is versatile and effective. Being able to select from five brightness levels, three color temperatures, and one, two, or all three LED arms active at a time gives me plenty of options to adapt to the lighting and environment I’m in.
Having the controls on a remote is convenient, too. If you’ve got everything right where you want it but the lighting needs a small adjustment, just aim and click.
The remote attaches to the bottom of the Trimate using a magnet, which is moderately strong, but it seems I’ll need to be careful not to accidentally push the remote off and lose it when I’m out and about. I think a more secure clip might be better for someone like me who loses small things!
I also noticed that every time the Trimate turns on, it reverts to default settings. I’d much prefer it “remember” what levels the brightness and color temperature were at when turned off, then go back to them when turned back on.
The controls are minimalist, one button per function on the remote. For example, instead of separate up and down buttons for brightness on the remote, there’s just one. If you’re on brightness level 3 (out of 5) and want level 2, you have to tap the button four times as it goes to 4, then 5, then 1, and then 2.
Finally, with ring lights, it’s not really a big deal if the camera catches the reflection of the light in your eyes. The ring shape matches the eye shape, and sort of blends in naturally. With the Trimate, the reflection the camera sees in my eyes is a “Y” shape… which isn’t natural, and doesn’t blend in. It could be a little bit distracting depending on the situation.
Overall, this is an effective, versatile device that effectively lights faces for vlogging, videos, or video calls on the go. If you need something that’s a lot easier to transport than a ring light, and don’t mind minimalist controls and the occasional “Y” shaped reflection in your eyes, this could be a great option.

Whether it’s video calls, vlogging, or just random self-recorded videos, the Trimate Vlogging Light is helpful in producing a more acceptable environment from a lighting perspective.
The Trimate comes well packaged in a very sturdy box. This gives you a reassurance the product is protected and secure. It also gives a sense of how the manufacturer feels about the product. Inside is the light, a remote, and a USB-C cable for charging. You will have to recharge the light prior to using it – my battery was completely exhausted initially. The remote has 4 buttons – power and brightness of course, color temp, and lighting group. It has a magnet inside allowing it to attach to the base of the light, helping to keep up with the accessory. Overall, the build quality on the light is solid. It is sturdy and well built, with a decent heft and feel.
To power up the Trimate, you have to hold down the power button on the light for at least 3 seconds – seems a tad longer. The remote power button need only be tapped to shut the power on and off. This is understandably acceptable as handling the light could produce accidental presses of the power button, while remote operation should be responsive enabling flexibility when filming. How does it perform? Admirably. It does a very good job of lighting a subject, almost too good at times. You will need to control the distance the light is from the subject and the brightness to prevent glaring. You also have brightness and lighting modes to reduce the amount of light. There is a mounting plug for stand attachment as well, which is very useful.
Should you buy the Trimate Vlogging Light? Well, it’s difficult not to recommend. It’s very well built, portable, has light count, brightness, and temperature controls, and includes a remote. I found it hard not to get the right lighting using it. I think it’s a good companion device for vloggers and video chat users.

This is a really clever and flexible light. I’ve found it useful to provide a more even light for Zoom calls.
A standout feature is the color temperature selection. You can select from three temperatures, which can help you decide which is a more natural look. It can also get very very bright. You can turn on 1-3 lights with 5 brightness levels. This really helped when using a laptop built in camera - the additional light allowed the web cam to show much less noise.
The remote is nice to have, but I don’t like that it covers the screw mount. I’d like to be able to leave this on a small tripod and also have the remote attach. The remote is nice to have, though, so that you can adjust settings without having to move out of frame.
An advantage of this compared to a ring light, it that is is easy to store in a bag, taking up less room.
I haven’t ran it out yet, but they state 4-16 hours of continuous use. I suspect I’ll get somewhere in the middle as I’m using mid settings for brightness and 2 lights on.
The only problem I ran into is the charging port. It didn’t work with 2 usb type c chargers that I have (both are for laptops, so I would think would provide the right power). Eventually I found one that worked. It comes with a usb type c to type a cable and I was able to charge it when plugged into a laptop usb type a port. So, it is nice that it is usb type c, but I didn’t expect the problems I had finding a suitable charger.
Overall, this is a really nice product, it makes my built in laptop web cam much more useful without needing to have an external webcam.

I really like this little lighting. It comes with a cool little remote that is magnetized and sticks to end of light when not using.
It is portable, lightweight and easy to carry on bag or purse. You can use with a mini tripod if needed or without. The light itself is steady while standing on a desk or any flat surface.
The light only has 2 buttons, which simplifies using it. It comes with a charging cable and needs to be charged 2 hours before using. It's suppose to say charged to use up to 16 hours continously. But I haven't needed to use this long at one time, the longest I've use is 2 hours at one time and had no issues.
It gives different options for lighting and I easily found the best lighting for vlogging and using zoom which changes depending on outside natural light. You can adjust color and brightness. It's small but very powerful and lights up the room on the highest level.
Two of the three bars swing open to different degrees depending on need.
I love everything about this. One thing that would make it even better, is if the two bars that swing open was able to twist to the side as well.

The Digipower Trimate light is a very versatile light for content creators. It can be used to accent objects, light up your face, provide a little extra protection from shadows...or light up your tent while camping. The possibilities are endless.
The Trimate is flexible with two arms of the light that can be positioned as needed. There are three color temperatures, soft white, medium white and more of a daylight, and 5 brightness settings. It can be attached to a tripod via the 1/4-20 threaded hole on the bottom. Charging takes about 2hrs. On the brightest setting with all three lights illuminated the light lasted about 2 hours.
The remote magnetically attaches to the bottom and is virtually indistinguishable from the light when attached. The remote is much easier to use than the on board buttons (just two on board, 4 on the remote). It would have been nice if the same 4 remote buttons were also present on the light itself as the two on board lights are a bit confusing to use.
All in all, this is a nifty light that has many different uses.

This light is bright

First off, this light is extremely bright. I am talking staring at the sun painful bright. If that is what you are looking for. Buy this light.
There are some odd design choices for the light:
- The tripod attachment screw is under the magnetic remote control. In order to use a tripod, you have to remove the remote.
- The remote is battery powered and non-rechargeable. The fact that the lamp itself is rechargeable makes this seem odd to me.
- The base of the lamp is not heavy enough to support the extended lights at any angle. A small tripod is needed for anything other than fully extended and upright lights, just enough to change the center of gravity.
- The remote is line of sight. Very limited range. It works well, but you have to aim it at the light.
- The on lamp controls do not match the remote controls. If you lose the remote you are fumbling around trying to adjust the lamp.
Now what I do like about the brightness, taking this outside at night you light up a huge area with the lights extended. To give an idea of the brightness, just walking within 20 feet of my security cameras turn off the night vision.
The build quality is quite sturdy. This feels like it will last a long long time.
Battery life has been pretty impressive so far. USB type C charging is nice to see. It makes the lamp feel more current.
While I may never use this as it is intended, the lamp is just too bright for me. I will definitely use it for other uses. If you are in a bright area I could see this lamp being great at removing shadows. In a moderately well lit area, it is blinding even at the lowest brightness setting.
While I do not recommend this as a video call light. It is a fantastic lamp in general. And it does give 5 brightness and 3 shades of light. You can change it from 3 lamps to 2 or 1. With a tripod I may use it in controlled shoots or just to light up the back yard when I am looking for something in the dark. Even a night time walk this may be great, just hope I don't blind oncoming traffic.
I only give 3 stars because I can't see using it as its intended function. But it is really a 4 star lamp with some minor design changes. A 5 star is easily attainable as a lamp in general, with a few tweaks. I would definitely recommend depending on what the intended use is.

This light is super bright on its highest settings it has 3 modes which allow you to change the temperature.
If you are a vlogger or a streamer this light hits really well on a green screen. Zero shadows and allows for adjustable lighting to help with on screen color correction.
It’s very portable to attach to a tri-pod. I tested the battery and saw about 14 hrs on high setting!

I wasn’t expecting to be wowed by this light…I thought it would be too small to really be of any use like other small systems I have used. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with how well it works. With the 3 color temperatures as well as the 5 levels of brightness this is great for video chats like it’s intended but I also noticed it was great for selfies and product shots. I haven’t used it with a tripod yet but I like that it’s an option. The remote is also a nice touch.
The only negative I can think of so far is how long it actually takes to charge fully but it’s not a huge deal. Battery life has been great so far so I don’t find the need to charge it after every use.

Light works great. Nice that it’s rechargeable. Remote is a nice touch so if you use on a mount and not right next to you then still can control it.
That said though a few things I would like to see. Remote is nice but would have been nice to have a way to use a app.
Would also have like a separate button to turn on or off. Or at least more instant. Instead of having to hold down for 3 seconds.
Rgb would also be fun to have.
Other then that though, you get 3 different color modes. And can use 1-3 lights. Then can dim I think 5 levels per color. You can mount it and open it up to be a star like figure.
Great light that works well.

Overall, the Trimate is super easy to use. It’s nice that it comes with a remote that attaches to the bottom of the light as a magnet. It’s doesn’t feel like a perfect alignment and it seems a little wobbly if left in place when standing up the light, but it’s still a nice feature The options available with the Trimate are great with 3 color temperatures and 5 brightness settings. The brightness options can get super bright if that’s what you need so this device offers a lot of flexibility to meet your needs. I prefer the natural lighting setting and even in a dark room it provides a sufficient amount of light for my video to work well while not blinding me with some of the other color temperatures. They feel a bit bright for me, but I’m sure others will find opportunities where they are the perfect fit. It offers nice options.
It was a little tough finding the spot to lift out the pop-outs for the lights initially, but it was it was easy to find going forward and they pop out reasonably easily as well. It’s nice that you don’t have to open them all the way up if you don’t actually need all 3.
The only con for me is that when you switch the lighting group to a new lighting group, it resets to the cold light which is a little frustrating. Not such a big deal if you are using the light for a recording, but if you're using it for a meeting you won't be casually improving your lighting as it feels like an extreme switch from natural lighting to cold lighting. It would be great if it retained the current color temperature in addition to the brightness level if you switch from 1 to 2 to 3 lights. Ultimately though, it’s visible increasing or decreasing the volume of lights in use so either way it's a minor annoyance but it really just is what it is.
With that issue aside, everything else about this device is great and I look forward to exploring it’s different options to improve my future videos and meetings.

I end up using this in my garage more than anything. It gets nice and bright and has a very pleasant color temperature. It's pretty compact and can be tucked into tight places or stowed in a camera bag easily. The remote is handy but keep in mind you need line of sight to the front of the light. Really the only thing that I would add is a magnet to the bottom of the light in addition to the 1/4x20 threads are already there. Happy to have this in my kit.

What a versatile little light! My first impression was a 5-star rating with three different color temperatures and five different levels of brightness. The brightness setting is determined by the distance from the subject and for camera distances less than 5 feet, I use three steps from the brightest setting. I use the least blue setting as my camera seems to like that color temp the best but your mileage and camera may vary. I have not used the remote as once I set it, I forget it so not sure it is something I will use. Once the remote is removed the base of the light is a rubberized foot to give it a bit of a grip of whatever it is sitting on. The remote needs to "see" the base of the light with the infrared sensor for it to work. A negative is that once the remote detaches, you must keep up with it. The other negative and primary reason for deducting a star is that the remote must be removed to mount on a tripod and it must be removed to recharge. I have not run out of battery yet with the longest continuous use of a little over 4 hours. They claim 7 hours in the specs but I cannot confirm the claim. I can say I am very satisfied with the results as it clearly makes a difference in lighting up the uneven spots you almost always have with indoor shots. I have not used it outdoors yet, but expect it will perform as well there as indoors. I would not leave it in the rain as it does not claim water resistance in the specs. I really appreciate the size and folding arms as it really does not take up much space in my bag. Bottom line - I would recommend this light.

This is a neat idea that is a little short on delivery. I find myself wishing it had a tripod or some way to get a better angle. If you angle the top lights downward then it will tip over without a tripod. The light options are okay but more of a gimmic than useful. The inclusion of a remote that sticks to the bottom of the light is a nice feature but does not always respond like you would want it to. If you have a shelf above your camera would help but then the light would tip over without the tripod. I think this is a great light source and device to help with vlogging and videos but be prepared to invest in the tripod to make it useful. The battery life is good too. One last issue is that even though it has USB C, the device will only charge when using the included cable. The whole point of USB C was to make it universal and easy. This defeats the purpose and benefit of having it be USB C. Just saying.

What I like about this is that it helps light up your video calls but there is a screw at the bottom so you can put this on a tripod stand. The light is pretty bright and the three settings are good for white, natural, and an ultra warm white. The way it forms into a three looks a bit weird but it still works regardless. This is also good for use as accent lighting.
