I wasn't sure what to expect with this series, but I am a huge fan of Douglas Adams' writing and truly enjoyed the books this series is based on. The series does not retell the stories from the books; in fact, it seems to be a sort of story continuation, making references to the books a coupe times, as if they are events that occurred in the past. Similar to the latest Amazon rebook of The Tick, this series is much darker than the source material, but it's still a great version of the characters. I'm looking forward to watching season 2!

If you've never read the books, you're in for a fantastic, wild ride and I envy you for the opportunity to experience meeting Dirk Gently for the first time. Just give this a chance and watch every boggling episode to the end. The first episodes SHOULD make no sense. Keep going and enjoy! You'll see! If you're a fan of the two books ("Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", and "Long Dark Teatime of the Soul"), you'll especially love this series as it feels like it picks up immediately after the last book and even drops references and then takes some of the seemingly small, throwaway details mentioned in the books and brings those details back to the foreground. The story is pure gold and wonderful! It starts off as utterly confusing nonsense but unfolds beautifully. It's as if Douglas Adams wrote the script himself and the acting from EVERY individual is outstanding.

It's quirky, confusing, and all around strange in the best way possible. This is my new favorite show and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys thinking. This is not low-brow entertainment...you'll have to be engaged to be rewarded. It's a tough follow in the beginning, but if you stick with it the payoff is completely awesome! The cast is outstanding, the humor is hilariously understated, and the plot is simply epic. Best new show, period! Ps- Season 2 is coming very soon!!!!

Saw this on it's original run on BBC America. It's unlike any other show I've ever seen. Writer/Executive Producer Max Landis is building quite the reputation. Elijah Wood is fantastic and as is the rest of the main cast. The bad guy is a tortured soul and you sorta feel bad for him. It's really cool to see how everything wraps up in the end.

If you call yourself a fan of DA, then you need this DVD. Dirk Gently is a hoot. Not as good as the 2010 BBC version, but definitely worth a watch, I binge watched this one weekend and it was well worth the time. Too bad we didn't get more books from DA, if we did this season could have been a great one. Fiona Dourif (Bart Curlish) makes the show.

Although not directly following any of the books there are a few homages scattered about. Instead, this goes in it's own direction and really manages to capture the ethos of the character. If you're into the general chaos that is a holistic detective you'll enjoy this series.

Can't wait for season two this fall. A friend recommended this to me and it did not disappoint. Has a little bit of everything in here, but can definitely get gruesome!

What the fantastic mess is this nonsense. In a crazy tale from Douglas Addams where nothing and everything makes sense. Absurdist comedy at its finest.

This show had me hooked from the very first episode! It's quirky and zany so you feel compelled to watch the next episode, then the next!

This was quirky and had some strangeness of characters to work through but was quite entertaining and enjoyable by the end.
