Excellent Wireless Mics for Content Creators

The best thing about the DJI Mic Mini microphone kit is how small the microphone transmitters are. The kit includes 2 and they are tiny and weigh nearly nothing. The mics come with a clip-on and a strong magnet and you can use either to attach it to your clothing. They are about a third of the weight of the DJI Mic 2’s. I can wear one on my shirt for multiple hours and easily forget that it’s there. The size makes it less noticeable to your viewers as well.
If you have used DJI’s Mic or Mic 2 models you will notice the receiver itself is also smaller, which is great, but it means that some features had to be sacrificed, namely the LCD screen that lets you monitor input levels. There is a dial that allows a +/- 12dB level adjustment but you will probably want to do a quick test recording just to make sure the sound levels are where you want them to be as Mini is not capable of recording internal audio.
The charging case has a spot for each transmitter, the receiver, and two adapters (only one for USB-C is included). Also included are two pairs of windscreens and a soft carrying case for everything. The receiver will fit into the case with the USB-C or Lightning adapter attached and even the mics can be put into the case with windscreens attached, which is really convenient. The case will charge the two mics and the receiver all at the same time and includes a USB-C port on the back to charge itself. The case features a button to unlock it which lessens the chance of it opening unintentionally.
Setup couldn’t be any easier. The receiver attaches directly to a smartphone (or laptop) with the USB-C adapter that’s included. Older iPhones will need a Lightning adapter that unfortunately requires a separate purchase. You can also connect the receiver directly to a DSLR or mirrorless camera with the included 3.5mm TSX cable. The mics automatically pair to the receiver when they are placed in the case so on both my iPhone 15 Pro and Sony camera simply connecting the receiver and pressing record was all I needed to do. The only downside is the receiver does stick out awkwardly from the bottom of your phone. However, the receiver does have a USB-C port of its own and therefore allows passthrough charging to your phone. I was not able to get it to do passthrough recording to my portable SSD though.
The performance is outstanding. I was able to get clear audio from both mics and was impressed with the automatic noise cancellation when I tested it with some fake airplane noises. While I could still hear the noise in the background it was faint, and my voice remained prominent and clear. There is a yellow LED on the mics that signals noise cancellation is enabled. You can tap the power button to toggle it on or off but note it will do it on both mics simultaneously. There are two levels of noise cancellation that can be set in the DJI Mimo app: Basic or Strong. In addition, the mics feature automatic limiting that prevents audio clipping so if you yell into the mic it should not distort. This can also be disabled in the app. I found the range from the mics to the transmitters to be very good, even indoors. There are other settings that can be adjusted in the Mimo app besides noise cancelling but for the most part the app is not needed in normal use.
While everything has been positive so far, I did run into a few quirks with the Bluetooth connectivity and iOS. First, you can only update the firmware on iOS with Bluetooth, including the receiver. Android does not have this limitation.
Secondly, while you can pair the microphones directly to your phone with Bluetooth and record audio without the receiver, I found that success in this mode will largely depends on the app you are using. The Voice Memo app used the Mic Mini as expected but the default Camera app did not. Even the more advanced Final Cut Camera app for iOS did not work. That app gives you the ability to change audio devices but the DJI Mic Mini was not available. Connecting the receiver allowed me to switch between the DJI Mic Mini and the Internal microphone in the Final Cut app as expected. I’m pretty sure both issues are limitations of iOS and not shortcomings of the product but thought I’d mention that it’s best to just use the receiver. You’ll get the best audio anyway over Bluetooth.
Pros:
- Includes 2 Tiny Mics w/ Clip-on and Magnet attachments.
- Charging Case charges transmitter and receivers
- Active Noise Cancelling Built-in
- Bluetooth, USB-C or 3.5mm Wired Camera Connection
- Passthrough USB-C Charging
- Includes soft carrying case for charging case and accessories
- Comes with 4 Windscreens
- 400m of Range (unobstructed)
- Syncs Directly with DJI’s Osmo Products
- Excellent Battery Life
Cons:
- Quirks with Bluetooth and iPhone
- Receiver sticks out awkwardly on phones
- Does not record audio on its own
Overall – these are great for content creators who are looking for lightweight, discreet microphones that just work out of the box-as long as you use the receiver.

Another fantastic product from DJI

I’ll start by saying that I am a huge fan of DJI products. Being a professional photographer by trade, I have been using their drones and cameras for over 10 years. When DJI announced the first Mic system, I was very intrigued immediately and placed a pre-order. Since its release at the beginning of 2023, I have used it on numerous video shoots and it has performed flawlessly. In fact, so flawlessly that I didn’t see the need to upgrade to the Mic 2 which was released only one year later. The new DJI Mic Mini was released even quicker, entering the market less than one year after the Mic 2. For the types of photography and videography I do on a daily basis, I can’t think of a more innovative company that continually pushes the boundaries, and releases products on a fast track that I carry with me daily.
** IN THE BOX **
In the box you will receive two microphones ( TX transmitters), one receiver (RX receiver), two sets of puffy wind screens (one for lighter NR, one for higher NR), cables for charging (USB-C) and camera connect (3.5mm TRS), two magnets for the mics, a USB-C adapter for the RX to connect to other devices, the charging case, and a soft travel pouch. I have found that I can fit everything I need into the charging case itself, eliminating the need to carry the soft pouch if preferred (see review photos). I personally use a lot of gear on my shoots, so space is valuable to me.
** SETUP **
Setup was easy, but did take some time. DJI releases firmware updates very quickly and makes the update process easy on most of their products. In order to update the firmware on the Mic Mini, you need to have the current version of the DJI Mimo app on your device. Once you start the app and press the camera button, the app will search for nearby DJI devices. Remove a Mic from the charging case and press the Bluetooth pairing button. The app will locate the Mic and wirelessly update the firmware for you. This process is quick and easy, but you will need to repeat the process for both Mics separately. The RX receiver cannot connect to a device for a firmware update and must be physically connected to your device using the included USB-C adapter for updates. The only problem I have with this, is that I need to remove my phone case to perform updates, or to adjust settings via the Mimo app. To remedy this, I will purchase a separate USB-C extender adapter to see if that will work. I will leave a comment on this review with my findings. If that works, I can live with it. Otherwise, for me personally, having to remove my phone case to select the level of noise reduction in the app settings will be a hassle and take extra time. The Mics themselves have the ability to turn on/off noise canceling by a simple press of the power button when connected to the receiver. It would be great if they can figure out a way to give users a way to select the level of noise cancellation by short pressing the power button on the RX receiver. Possibly in a future firmware update?
** SIZE & BUILD QUALITY **
As with all DJI products, I feel like this product is built to last. I would go as far as saying I would be more worried I would lose one of the pieces in this kit, due to their small size, before I would actually break one. Weighing only 10 ounces per microphone, the size of these mics compared to the full size DJI Mic system, is quite astonishing. These are easier to conceal on clients and have close to the same end result, making the Mic Mini system an indispensable tool to carry at all times. DJI have also thoughtfully released both black and white versions of the mics making it even easier to conceal on clients depending on their attire. With the highly competitive price point, it is a no brainer to have both colors in my kit.
** FEATURES & REAL WORLD USE **
In my testing so far, I have found several things to like about the DJI Mic Mini and I can see where this affordable, yet still professional package, would benefit several types of creators. The audio recording these provide while feeding a DJI product, or while hooked directly up to a DSLR or Mirrorless camera system is clear and precise. With the two noise cancelling modes, one for interior, or light noise, one for exterior, or more noisy/windy environments, this small, affordable package is hard to beat. I personally use this with my Mirrorless Cinema camera to record walkthroughs with Real Estate Agents, and with my OSMO Action to record myself and my kids. In both scenarios, the DJI Mic Mini has performed as expected, and the microphones have produced excellent clear audio tracks to use in post production. While having the RX receiver on the hot shoe of my camera and the audio cable hooked up, I appreciate the fact that there is an included gain wheel on the RX receiver itself, allowing users to adjust the microphone levels directly from the receiver, instead of having to dive into a menu on your phone. Excellent! I am also very fond of the magnet system DJI have provided, giving users the ability to, for instance, place a magnet inside a shirt, and the microphone on the outside of the shirt instead of using the clip. The magnets are quite strong and hold the mic in position well, but I wouldn’t expect it to work as well through thicker fabric, or coats. The battery life hasn’t even come close to being an issue for me, as the charging case keeps them more than charged for every type of shoot I use them for. The range is also completely out of control in a good way. You can walk so far away from your camera and still have clear voice recordings, that it is really too far away to be anything I would ever use. After the mics are initially paired with the RX receiver, you simply remove everything from the charging case you need and it all connects quickly and automatically, so you are ready to shoot without wasting precious time.
DJI has been at the forefront of innovation for years. With their wide range of excellent products, their replacement program, and timely firmware updates, they are a tech giant that has many tools I am proud to have in my kit.
** PROS **
Size, weight, magnet mounts, included wind screens, charging case
Battery life and range
The mics are easy to place and conceal
Compatibility with other DJI products including the OSMO series
Auto power on and connection
Auto limiter
** CONS **
No internal recording backup like its big brothers
Must connect RX receiver via USB-C to phone to adjust settings
No 3.5mm mic input on either mic for lavalier mics (I don’t need it)

A Superb Upgrade

I am quite excited about this product upgrade. I had considered getting the DJI Mic 2 just for its dual stereo mics. But the mini version addresses almost all my concerns. The new smaller size and improved case, that can easily fit in your pocket, is most excellent. In addition, having a total operating time of 48 hours versus 18 hours (Mic 2) is awesome. It now also has two levels of noise cancellation and an optional audio limiter to prevent clipping. But most important to me the transmitters went from 1oz (28g) to only 1/3oz (10g). The simple clip-on windscreens (in gray and black) are also much easier to use.
The Mic Mini can be used with numerous devices, pretty much anything that allows a microphone input, can now easily support two mono/stereo wireless mics with a range of about 400', both supporting noise cancellation. I doubt I'll be able to use it on a motorcycle ride, but all the other situations where the on-camera mic is insufficient (meaning more than 20-30'). The DJI Mic Mini can also connect directly to a smartphone supporting Bluetooth, or any camera supporting a BT connection. That adds to the flexibility. The Mic Mini also comes with a direct USB C connector so the wireless receiver can connect directly to a (newer) iPhone or any Android Phone. There are many digital video cameras that support the same and if they don't the 3.5mm TRS connector is the most common means of connecting an external microphone.
The first thing I did was a simple range test. Whenever the transmitter (mic) is connected solid green leds are displayed on the receiver and transmitter (mic). When it blinks green, it has lost its connection. I've previously measured 100 meters from a position in my front yard. At this distance (line of sight) the signal was just fine (receiver connected to my iPhone monitoring audio) at 330'. I moved 20 meters further (366'), and it was still fine, but I detected some drops with silence for too long. And at 330 meters, it struggled a bit more especially with long periods of silence. But the 400' mark seemed credible. I connected the mic via the strong magnets that connect to the back of the mic. These work very well, and won't damage fine shirts. And at 10g (1/3oz) they barely pull on the fabric. The magnet was plenty strong to attach through the thicker collar of a polo shirt. The quality of the audio at 300 meters seemed identical to the quality/level at 10 meters. So distance did not affect the levels of the audio. Excellent, I'm very pleased. I toyed with the two levels of noise cancellation, there was a difference and depending what background noise is one or the other might prove better. The audio limiter was much more interesting, I could literally scream into the mic, and the loudest levers were quite well tempered. This feature is very cool (it was not in the previous version).
I then connected to a DJI Action 3 via USB-C to USB-C cable (not provided) and it worked perfectly. And the DJI app showed the signal levels (with several other controllable options). I also connected to another popular mini camera via a 3.5mm TRS/TRS cable, and I had two stereo mics being recorded (mixed together). And then I connected and captured video with my iPhone (15 pro); also no issues. I'm sure all video cameras with a 3.5mm external mic input will also worked fine. I have to compliment DJI for cutting the size and weight of the new mini mic and improving the feature set (and making them more affordable). And they've followed existing standards so that a single mic can still be used with devices accepting BT inputs. Something that should become more common (as supported by the DJI Action 5 and Pocket 3) in more products. I superb wireless microphone set!

For casual user, many times the microphones on our phones and tablets are good enough. But there are times when we need something a lot better, especially if you decide to get into podcasting, social media video making, and other similar activities. For those, you need high quality sound. The DJI Mic Mini system is leaps above anything built into your devices, and will take your hobbies or projects to the next level for when you look at it, not really a ton of money.
The DJI Mini first of all comes with a really nice, solid, charging case. Within the case you store your audio receiver that will deliver your mic input into your connected device, two small mic transmitters (in this kit, but you can get one with only one if you want), four “fuzzy” wind screens you can put on your mics for outdoor use, a cable for camera connectivity, and two tiny and strong magnets you can use to attach your mics to clothing. The case is charged with an included USB-C charger and will give your devices up to 48 hours of use before needing to be recharged. I really like this case. Everything fits perfectly inside, and the top doesn’t flip open too easily. Lights will tell you the charge level. A nice quality zippered pouch also is included to put the case and other accessories in. All around an excellent package.
Many people will use these with their phones or tablets for recording. You can take the receiver, slide in the USB-C adapter, and plug it into your newer model iPhone (that uses USB-C) or any Android phone, or tablets or computers with USB-C ports, and you’re set to go. A lighting port connector is available for those with older Apple devices as a separate purchase for around $25, but mine only comes with the USB-C. Once plugged in, you press the related buttons to connect the microphone(s) to the receiver, and you’re set to go. A dial on the receiver can adjust your sensitivity. The mic transmitters have a full range of 400 meters in ideal conditions – so a very good range. Clip them on or use the mounting magnets to secure them in the best position on your clothing, and go do your thing. At only 10 grams each, the mics won’t be noticeable, and with two of them, you can record two people at the same time. Great for activities or if you’re interviewing someone.
One extra feature is that if you own certain Osmo Action recording devices, you can use the microphones with them and they’ll connect without the need for a receiver. You can connect via Bluetooth to supported phones and devices as well if you’re using certain apps. Kind of hit and miss for me. I find that it worked better if I used the receiver plugged into the phone, but in most cases I did find the mics could connect to my iPhone 15 Plus via Bluetooth, and they did work well, too. You can update the firmware on the DJI system by downloading the “DJI Mimo” app through the Apple or Android app stores. This will make sure the software and firmware stays up to date, and all settings like noise cancellation and others keep working properly.
The fuzzy wind screens clip onto the mic transmitters via tiny plastic snaps – a little fiddly with my large fingers, but it keeps them on securely. Works great outdoors to muffle the wind noise you almost always get outside, but indoors you don’t want to use them as I’ve found they muffle the sound quality a bit, and unless you are in an indoor area with a ton of air circulation with a lot of fans, etc., you should not need them indoors. The black ones will blend in more with wherever you clip the mic to, and the gray and black ones are there for variety.
The battery life seems to live up to claims. Of note, the higher the sensitivity you crank up the receiver to, and the further away you are from the mics, the more quickly they’ll drain power, but you won’t have any issues going through a very long day (or two) using these before they need topped off. Just a few minutes in the charging case will give you an hour or more should you need some emergency power.
I’m a nitpicky person, and I can’t find anything to really complain about with the DJI Mic Mini system. Probably the ONLY thing would be that the mic/transmitters and the tiny magnets to secure them are so incredibly small, you really need to take extra care just not to lose them! Get into the habit of putting them all in the case when not in use to prevent loss! But while at this price it’s not something a very casual everyday person who shoots day-to-day videos may need, this is an excellent system for those who want to step up the sound quality to semi-professional or even for some uses, professional levels. In my opinion, it’s well worth the investment.

Fantastic Compact Wireless Mics

The DJI Mic Mini is a really great compact microphone system that sounds great and is super versatile and easy to use with a variety of devices wired and wireless.
You get 2 microphones, which are very small and light. They can attach via an integrated clip or with a small magnet and they don’t pull my shirt down while I’m wearing them. There are also 2 different colored windscreens included that clip onto the top of the microphones.
The receiver is a little bulkier and can connect to a phone over Bluetooth or via the included USB-C adapter. It can also connect to a camera with a TRS cable, which is also included. Having it connected to my phone made it a little unwieldy to use, but it was mostly manageable. The receiver has a gain adjustment knob and a couple of buttons for power and pairing. The microphones are automatically paired to the receiver out of the box.
All of the parts in the system store and charge in the included charging case and DJI also includes a nice little pouch to keep the charging case in with the cables. The case charges via USB-C and a charging cable is included, but no wall adapter.
The audio quality with the mics while recording videos is so much better than what I can get from my phone and requires very little input from me. Noise cancelling does a good job of cutting out background noise without degrading my voice.
I have not been able to run the batteries down on these yet as I’m usually recording in short bursts, but the stated battery life is 10+ hours on both the microphones and the receiver and the battery in the case will provide a total of 48 hours of operation, which is more than enough for any scenario I can think of.
Overall I’m really happy with these microphones. I think audio is an often overlooked component of videos and these offer a really simple and easy way to improve your audio.

These little guys pack a punch! The audio quality from these is incredible. I also use the DJI mic 2 that cam with my Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Kit and these hold their own weight very well against the much more expensive Mic 2. I also really love the compact size and light weight. Wearing these all day when recording is far less cumbersome than the much heavier Mic 2.
Pairing them to devices is very easy. The button controls are simple and intuitive. It is tough to tell if they are actually on or not when recording spontaneously all day long since there is no haptic feedback like with the Mic 2. The device they connect to is supposed to give you a banner that tells you when they are connected or disconnected, but occasionally that banner does not come up, making it almost a necessity to visually check for the status lights on the mic if constantly switching them on and off.
Battery life is amazing! I have worn the same mic for an entire day and not needed to recharge it, which is incredible considering the size.
Range is also amazing. I have walked several hundred feet from my cameras and they stay connected and audio quality is just the same as if I was right in front of the cameras.
I would HIGHLY recommend these.

OMG! OMG! OMG! These mics are AWESOME. As a content creator these are super awesome and SOOOO easy to use. Lets get with the unboxing. In the charging case you get 2 mini mics, each with clips and magnets (love the magnets). You also get the USB-C adapter and main transmitter module which is paired to the mics already. Pulling the mic and module out of the charging case will instantly turn them on. So easy to use they are already paired and ready to go.
Download the mobile app to your phone and you will be able to control the settings for the mics. You also get wind screens for the mics,. These are great to help reduce wind noise during recording. They connect super easy to the mics and come off just as easy when ready.
Using the included transmitter or you can use bluetooth to connect these to your iOS or Android device. Love this multiple options for connectivity. Bonus when you connect the transmitted to our device with USB C you can charge your device and transmitter at the same time. Love this. The battery life on these is awesome too…. Easily 10 hours of use.
You get access to online videos through the DJOI website and app to help walk you through unboxing and setup and use. This is a high quality device in a micro small package. Super portable, you can pull it out and begin using it right away to capture audio with your content wherever you are. This is a must have for any content creator.
With movie cancelling technology this has been a game changer for my content creation.

I have been a content creator for quite some time now but has always been on the lookout for a mic that help me to take my content to the next level. This has been the much needed addition to my prep work. This is very light weight to keep it on for a long time and the look is integrates well and doesn't make it look odd while being on the dress. My content's audio quality has upgraded to the next level and keeps the focus on the my audio quality and removes almost all the unwanted noise in the background. It has a great dual noise cancellation feature as the Basic is useful for indoor recording where we in general do not have much noise interference where as the Strong comes in handy while recording outdoors. You have to use to see the real difference. Not to mention the battery life of approx. 48 hours and easily outlasts all outdoor requirements in a single charge.
Just in case if you need to connect to Osmo Action 5 Pro device then it has the capability to seamlessly connect without needing a receiver. This comes with two transmitter, one receiver and a charging case and makes it a complete package. Overall, this is portable, reliable and has great functionality for high-quality audio recording.

Tiny Mics With Terrific Sound

I want to start by thanking the Best Buy Tech Insiders Network for sending me the DJI Mic Mini. I love DJI products and already own 2 of their drones, the DJI Action 2 and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. They make great products that are professional quality at a consumer price. When I got the Osmo Pocket 3 creator kit, it came with the DJI Mic 2 which I was amazed at how small it was and how clear the audio was. This DJI Mic Mini is less than half the size of the Mic 2 and half the weight so it won't pull on your shirt. It's almost unnoticeable while wearing it and the sound quality is just as good.
The DJI Mic Mini kit includes a receiver, 2 mics, a USB-C cable for connecting it to a DSLR and 4 "dead cats" (wind blockers) - 2 for standard outdoor use and 2 heavy duty ones for windy days and an adapter to attach the receiver to a computer or phone. It all fits in the charging case that can be plugged into a computer or power brick to charge everything. The receiver is not necessary when connecting it to my DJI Osmo Pocket 3 but I did need to use it to connect to my Mac Studio for a Zoom conference. Usually I use a standard mic during Zoom meetings but this time I put the DJI Mic Mini onto my shirt (using the very strong included magnet but there is also a clip on each mic) and asked the others on the Zoom how it sounded. They said the audio was great and thought I was using my regular desk mic, never noticing the small black square on my shirt. This Mic Mini is black in color and DJI also makes it in white. It would be great if they made little covers for the mic in various colors to hide it when you wear different shirts.
The Mic Mini differs from the Mic 2 in that there is no internal storage. On the Mic 2, you have a copy of the audio recorded internally that you can download later if needed. If for some reason your transmission to the receiver drops out, you won't have a backup. The Mic 2 also has a USB-C port that you can plug directly into your computer to do a firmware update but there is no USB-C on the Mic Mini. There is automatic level limiting on the Mic Mini to prevent clipping whereas the Mic 2 has 32 bit float to avoid clipping. There is also active noise canceling available on the Mic 2 that can be set using the DJI Mimo app on your phone. The Mic Mini has runtime of over 11 hours whereas the Mic 2 only has 6 hours. The receiver has a gain control dial to raise or lower the sound.
You don't need to use the receiver when connecting to the iPhone but it won't work with the standard iOS Camera app, you would need to use a 3rd party app like the Black Magic Camera app or other app that allows access to other audio sources.
All in all a mic setup like this has incredible sound while on the go shooting as opposed to just using the camera's built in mic.
Using both mics along with my DJI Osmo 3 will allow me to shoot an interview where both the talent and I are each wearing the mics and the camera will record both or our audios.

📦 UNBOXING:
Inside the box, you’ll find a great accessories package for the DJI Mic Mini. Right off the bat, you’ll be greeted by a travel zipper pouch that has a zipper pocket and two small elastic pockets inside for stowing away some of your accessories.
Then there’s of course the charging case, 2x wireless microphone transmitters, 2x magnetic clips, 1x wireless receiver (which both transmitters can be paired simultaneously to), a USB-C phone adapter, a 3.5mm analog microphone cable, a USB C to A cable, and 4x windscreens.
💪 BUILD:
The charging case is built quite well, and should have no issue sustaining a drop, although I might expect some dings, but no real damage to anything inside the case since there really isn’t any wiggle room inside the case.
With everything included in the travel pouch, you’re looking at a total weight of about 9 oz (258g), with a single microphone transmitter weighing in at a mere 10g and a magnetic clip at an additional 4g. For perspective, the more advanced DJI Mic 2’s transmitter weighs in at 28g with an additional 6g for its magnetic clip.
With 2023’s DJI Mic 2, one small complaint the community had was that the weight of the transmitter could cause some shirts to droop more when clipped magnetically or via the clothespin style clip. With the Mic Mini, however, this is simply not an issue thanks to its significant reduction in size and weight.
And while the build is plastic to achieve the best wireless signal, I feel DJI still chose a pretty good quality plastic that should withstand some drops and is resistant to basic surface scratches. While I wouldn’t call these fragile, I also wouldn’t call them tanks, either. So do your best to keep it from drops or liquid, as they don’t appear to have an ingress protection rating.
⚙️ FEATURES:
Each transmitter’s power button can be held to be powered on or off, and single-pressed to engage the microphone noise cancellation—which will also turn on a secondary yellow LED to indicate that noise cancellation has been enabled. Meanwhile, the link button can be held (and will alternate between blue and green LED) to pair with the receiver, Osmo camera, or mobile app (primarily for firmware updates), and single-pressed when connected to an Osmo camera to start/stop recording. Unlike the Mic 2’s transmitter, the Mic Mini doesn’t have a 3.5mm input for a lavalier microphone. So you’re relying on the qualities of the built-in microphone. And the DJI Mic Mini system doesn’t have any local storage, so you’re relying on everything in your signal chain to be set up correctly for a reliable recording experience.
The receiver is also quite simple. There’s a power button which powers on the receiver when held, and a status LED will blink white until it’s been connected to a host device (smartphone, camera, computer, etc.) after which it’ll hold a solid white. However, unlike the transmitters, paring the receiver over Bluetooth must be done using the power button. If you continue to hold the power button for longer, it will eventually enter Bluetooth mode so you can pair with the app. While you can change the transmitter’s settings via the mobile app over USB, you cannot update the firmware via USB. There are also 2 LED status indicators to show the number of transmitters actively connected. SImply put the microphone transmitters into pairing mode, then hold the link button on the receiver to put it into pairing mode, where it will automatically connect with the transmitters.
The receiver also has a simple gain dial with 6db increments so you can go up to +12dB gain and down to -12dB. And to connect to a host device, it has a 3.5mm output and a 6-pin connector for USB-C (included) or Lightning (sold separately) adapters.
DJI claims the system can capture audio up to a distance of 400 meters in an unobstructed environment, which is very impressive.
⚙️ CONFIGURATIONS:
The Mic Mini can be used in a variety of configurations. You can have the receiver hooked up to a smartphone via the included 6-pin USB-C adapter. This makes it great for people who want to create content with just their phone.
Using the 6-pin USB-C adapter, you can also use the Mic Mini with a desktop computer or potentially some cameras that support USB microphones. This could be useful for live streaming from a stationary computer setup.
For those who are already in the Osmo ecosystem, the transmitters work natively without a receiver on the Action 5 Pro, Action 4, and Pocket 3. I was able to test with the Osmo Pocket 3 and had no regression in features or quality. For older Osmo series cameras, you may need to use the receiver.
And of course, for those with mirrorless or DSLR cameras, you can connect the receiver to the cold shoe of a camera and use the 3.5mm audio output into the microphone input of your microphone for a more traditional recording experience.
🎙️ SOUND QUALITY:
In my testing across a smartphone, Osmo Pocket 3, desktop computer and mirrorless camera, the audio quality was very good. Similarly to the Mic 2, the best results are when the microphone has an unobstructed sight to the speaker, but realistically speaking most people will use this on their shirt or lapel and will exhibit a slightly warmer sound.
The noise cancellation is also quite helpful for reducing distracting background noise—with 2 strengths to select from through the app. Personally, I think the default “Basic” noise cancellation might be too basic, so I opted for the “Strong” for most of my testing. Additionally, louder noises can be better compensated for thanks to the Mic Mini’s Automatic Limiting to prevent clipping.

🔋 BATTERY:
DJI claims the microphone transmitters can operate for 11.5 hours and the receiver can operate for 10.5 hours. Everything fully charged, the case provides 3.6 charges, so you can get 48 hours of total use if using the receiver with two microphone transmitters. And in a pinch, 5 minutes of charging can yield 1 hour of use. This is a significant improvement compared to the DJI Mic 2’s 6 hours for each transmitter and receiver and 18 hour total usage.
With battery life like this, I find it easier to disable auto-off so that I don’t have to repeatedly power on the receiver and transmitters. I can keep everything powered and press record the instant that I’m ready.
🧐 CONCLUSION:
Unless you need 32-bit float and/or safety tracks from the DJI Mic 2, I think a lot of people are going to love the significantly more compact DJI Mic Mini with its significant battery advantage and even more discreet form factor. The sound quality is excellent in my experience, and DJI made it very easy to get started. I think DJI has put themselves in a uniquely competitive position when compared to a lot of the competition just on size alone, but there’s a lot more to this mini microphone system that should make it a top contender for any content creator who needs a super portable covert microphone system.

This is my first wireless mic setup and boy I am impressed with the DJI Mic Mini. I’ve been doing a lot of running these days and I’ve been narrating my own runs by taking selfie videos. The obvious annoyance I run into during a run is the wind noise. I try to mitigate it by repositioning my grip on my phone or shielding the phone, but more often than not I just end up getting a selfie of my chin, and still have the wind noise. The DJI Mic Mini opened my eyes to what a wireless microphone system offers.
Firstly, the kit comes with two microphone transmitters, and they are very small. They can be attached to your person either by clipping it or magnetically attaching it to your clothing. Aesthetically, the magnet is a lot better because it can be placed almost anywhere on your person, but not quite as secure as the clip. But I had zero problems attaching the mic either way. The mic is very small; to me it’s just a bit larger than 3 U.S. quarters stacked together, and it is so light that you don’t notice it once it’s attached. Each mic has two buttons, one for power and one for linking. Also, each mic comes with two windscreens (black and black/gray).
The kit also comes with a receiver which is a bit larger than the transmitters, but still relatively small. It allows for different types of connectivity so that you can connect to a smartphone, camera or a PC. I intend to use mostly on my smartphone, and I have 3 options: (1) using a USB-C cable, (2) using the included USB-C adapter to physically attach the receiver to my phone, and (3) via Bluetooth (some caveats). There is a 4th option using a 3.5mm TRS cable, which is included with the kit, to use with your DSLR or the like when the other options are not feasible. The receiver can also be attached to most things with its built-in clip, but has no magnetic clip like the transmitter. It has a wheel knob for adjusting gain and power/linkage buttons just like the transmitter.
Putting it all together, the transmitter and receiver rest nicely together inside a hard charging case. Charging is done via USB-C (cable included). There are 4 white LED indicators that indicate charge level. Also housed is the attachable USB-C adapter, and there is another slot for an additional adapter which I’m guessing is for the Lightning variant, not included. Finally, all of this can be stored in a carrying case that is included with the kit.
When I first attached the receiver to my iPhone, I used the included USB-C adapter. There is a green LED indicator that tells me if there is a successful connection to a device. Flashing green means no, and solid green means good. I then attached one of the transmitters to myself; it will exhibit the same flashing behavior as the receiver, but only in regards to its connectivity to the receiver, not the receivers’ host device. I created a quick video, and my mind was blown.
The clarity from the DJI Mic Mini was astounding. It is very much a night and day difference just sitting at a table and capturing videos with and without the Mic Mini. And what was also very apparent was how easy it was to set up, just how I described above. I didn’t need to install an app as it was very much plug-and-play. My voice came through with the utmost sound clarity, and much of the ambient noise around me like an air purifier or running water was more or less eliminated. As I mentioned above, going for a run was also astounding for me. I continued with the same USB-C adapter setup for the receiver and opted to use a windscreen on the transmitter. I felt more confident using the transmitters’ physical clip on my shirt rather than using the magnetic clip, although I feel like the magnetic clip is strong enough that I wouldn’t have to worry. Once again, a night and day difference with audio. The wind noise is virtually gone, and my speech and breathing is front and center. I also noticed that from run to run, I can tell which of my running shoes exhibit more noise, which I found more interesting. I decided on another run that I clip the secondary transmitter closer to my feet to hear my foot strikes to record which shoes are the noisiest of the bunch. I was having too much fun with this….
Changing settings at a moments’ notice can only be done on the receiver, and it is the gain knob and the power button. I would tinker with this by recording a video and stating the gain value in the video so that I knew what was best in that situation. The power button doubles as a noise cancelling on/off button; an additional LED opposite of the main LED will illuminate a lighter green color indicating that noise canceling is on. But as far as adjustability on the receiver…that’s it. That’s where the DJI Mimo App comes in, where you’ll find a handful of device settings, especially noise canceling strength and enabling clipping control. When I’m indoors, I keep the noise canceling in basic and everything else default; when I run outdoors, I change noise canceling to strong and sometimes enable low cut to help further with ambient outdoor noise like passing vehicles along my run. The DJI Mimo App also allows you to create content with pre-recorded videos and even photos. Just a quick plug for DJI’s app, but outside the scope of this review.
Now for the gotchas…unless I’m doing something wrong, there isn’t actually a means to connect the receiver via traditional Bluetooth. The receiver does not appear as an available Bluetooth device when I put it in pairing mode. After numerous attempts and messing around, I found that the only way to connect the receiver via Bluetooth is using the DJI Mimo App…but it’s not what you think. The app connection only allows you to change recording settings, but not actually Bluetooth audio recording. Again, not sure if I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but that’s what I’ve been able to figure out thus far.
Overall, the DJI Mic Mic gets a huge recommendation from me. I can’t believe I went this long without a system like this. This is a must for anyone who is getting into content creation.
