I had a phantom 2 and a phantom 2 vision plus, but this phantom 3 professional model is a cut above the rest. It has UHD--Ultra 4K Video and 13 MP stills with a gimbal stabilized camera. The price went way down and it's so worth it. I use it to take video and stills of cell towers at work (with appropriate license). The software is awesome !!

One of the easier quadcopters on the market to use. I have recommended this and other DJI phantom models to friends in which they have purchased. Everyrhing is easy to use and understand with all the literature provided and online support. I plan on venturing onto other DJI products in the near future. Awesome product!!

This quadcopter is truly amazing. It uses both the US and Russian GPS systems, so most times it is locked on to 16 satellites. When you take your hands off the controls, it holds its position rock-steady. The video looks like the camera is mounted on a pole! The 4k video is unbelievable. Flight time is about 23 minutes per battery. It uses your smart phone to show you the video as it is being shot, and control camera and other settings. It even has an automatic "return to home" if it loses the control signal. Range from the controller is up to 1.2 miles!

    133 miles - 17 hours - 93 flights

Title of my review outlines my experience with this drone so far as of 12-21-15. I'm in no way associated with BB, DJI, or any organization tied to on-lines reviews. In fact, I think this is my third review since using the internet in 1994. If you purchased a small or less expensive drone to try out droning, you may have done more harm than good. This drone requires no effort to keep in in it's position and I find it won't deviate off plus or minus an inch. I've had it in 25+ MPH winds and white it's leaning aggressively, it's maintaining position. It will nearly fly itself so you can focus on the camera. I've flown other drones and it's a chore to maintain a flight. Bring this unit up to eye level and push it around with your hand. It quickly returns to position. A little freaky. Search YouTube for BoilerCopter and you will see video and some extra information about my experiences. Most match what the specs say except for the video stability. 133 miles of flight distance and most was with the video camera on. Might be the most impressive thing about this unit IMO. Very clear and stable. Tested the battery low feature by canceling the go home feature as many times as it would let me (safely in the back yard). It hits a point where it will return home using the pre-set parameters no matter what you do. Tested the signal loss function at near 2 miles out. Lost signal and video feed. Two minutes felt like two hours as nothing was on my screen and then bing...video feed back on and it was half way home on autopilot. I calibrate before every flight period. Don't know if that's helped but the 93 flights I have so far have had not one issue with loss of signal or erratic behavior (other than losing the signal on purpose). When you land, don't use the option to pull both sticks back and to the bottom edges. It will tip. Worst case for me was cutting grass blades. Instead, pull straight down on the throttle only for three seconds and it stops. No tips. Don't charge the battery and controller at the same time. Looks like you can but the manual states do not do it. Buy a case. The camera lays limp and hangs when not in use. Also hard to carry it around without almost dropping it. I got the DJI backpack hard case that BB sells. Battery lasts 20+ minutes. Takes about 30 minutes to charge the battery. Video stores on a micro SD card at the camera gimbal base. Remove it and store the files on the computer. Have not tethered the drone to a computer yet. Research range extenders. I purchased a set for cheap and it does extend the range by 30% by my calculations. Anything beyond that (battery operated extenders) and it's pointless. Your battery won't last that long and technically, you can only take a 10 min. flight out and 10 back. Leads me to another important point. Check wind speed and direction before each flight. The unit knows how much is needed to get home and plans accordingly. Sometimes, the wind will change and your actual go home point is not what's on the app. Leave some fuel in the tank until you get many flights and know the needs. The app is very easy to use. App has a flight log book that keeps track of all your flights. Don't use the app video editing software so no comment there. I tried using a mirroring program to record the iPad Mini's screen on my computer nearby. Something seemed to degrade the signal because I started losing signal early on a well known flight path. Turned it off, repeated the flight and back to normal. Expensive but worth it. For those parents who want to share this with children, altitude is your friend as is pre-set flight controls. There is a learn mode that restricts many functions and you can also adjust from there. Easy to program in failsafe measures so your younger children can fly it too. Summary: I can afford a drone like this no problem but it still took over a year of saving change and small bills. Could not justify buying a $1,300 toy but in retrospect, I wish I would have purchased it. The enjoyment has been well worth it. Enjoy.

I have now owned a Yuneec Q500 4K, a 3DR Solo, Phantom 2 Vision +, and a Phantom 3 Professional. The Phantom 3 is my favorite and shines in the following areas: Range-The range is absolutely amazing. I have held signal at up to 3 miles with good conditions. The Yuneec and 3DR both suffer in this area getting less than 700 or 800 feet in the same conditions Apps-The DJI Go app is very good, and there are a couple of 3rd party apps out there like Litchi, which is awesome. Speed-Decent speed, holding all else constant it goes around 36 mph Camera Quality-Very good quality, also allows for many remote configuration options (shutter speed, ISO, etc.) Flight time-Advertised as 23 minutes, but the best I have done is 21 minutes with the end of the flight consisting of only hovering. Support-Has improved vastly, still could be better though as it takes a while to get a response sometimes. Modifications-Falls short in this area due to the closed nature of the hardware/firmware. Having been around for a while, DJI has worked out the majority of issues, I don't see any company catching them either. Awesome product!!!!!

The Best Aerial Photography Machine.... By Far!!!!

First off, having study the you know what out of these things for years before even choosing a manufacturer to hone in one, and then another year waiting for DJI to release this model, I believe I have some foundation of knowledge to standoff when speaking my opinion on this unit. Compared to the 2015 DJI Phantom Pro, which is the closest I have seen DJI get to releasing a unit that had much of the same functionality as their totally awesome, which costs $3000 before even buying another battery for it, but is less than half the cost. Based on full professional review video's, which run the Inspire 1 and the Phantom Pro side by side, the one option that the Inspire 1 comes out ahead on is the dual control, which for that unit is needed since it is much more challenging to fly. However, with the Phantom Pro, there is no need for an addition video administrator due to the fact that the Pro is so much easier to fly in the first place. On the Pro, the Video is the same as the Inspire 1, giving some of the best aerial photo's you can imagine. This goes way beyond being a toy, it becomes a tool for seeing yourself, and your life, through a new set of eyes. You will find yourself filming your family on picnics, playing with your kids, and just doing things around the house with the intelligent flight modes, making for a whole new way to capture family memories. And since it uses a standard micro SD Card, it is easy to upload your pictures and video to your computer in a snap. (For my unit is bought the $90 HDMI out plug-in, which attaches to the bottom of the Phantom Pro controller, and with the mini HDMI cable, I can run all the video live right on my laptop for everyone to see... another Inspire 1 ability found in the Pro). There is almost nothing this unit cannot do. This is by far their most popular unit, with a company which is strong and will be around in 3-4 years if parts are needed, (Unlike some other drone companies who are trying to break into the market, DJI will be here for a long time). Plus, DJI is extremely innovative, and always building on the platforms that we purchase, instead of releasing new units and making us have to upgrade. They release updates regularly and come out with the coolest peripherals you can ever imagine. After over 2 years of researching these, knowing I would only purchase one, I chose the DJI Phantom Pro, and spent the money I saved on the HDMI out, which also has a plug in for a Virtual Reality Headset, (still in development), addition batteries and propeller protectors. (Of all the video's I watched, it was pilots hitting something with their propellers that made them crash it. The $15 protectors end that problem. And finally, I have no doubt that if these do not become illegal, they will at least become severely regulated in the not so distant future. I believe it is a smart move buying into a brand name that has a huge domestic user base, and even its own lobbying presence in the US. Seeing how well designed they are, how well managed they are, how innovative they are, and how ahead of the competition they are, they very much remind me of another tech company I like... Apple. DJI is the Apple of Aerial Photography Machines. I am very happy I bought a DJI Phantom Pro, and I look forward to seeing this new tool and its perspective added to my life. Papanator Colorado, USA BTW, We love where we love, with our best neighbors being the guys in these photos.

Have had mine since May soon after they were announced. Still working on improving my piloting skill set. With batteries charged you can go through preflight checks and be out of the box and airborne in minutes. But you gotta prepare - fully charge all batteries, verify you have the latest firmware for the controller, the quad and the smart battery and while waiting for batteries to charge watch the tutorial videos on the DJI web site so you don't do stupid stuff, crash it or lose it on a first flight due to pilot error. The included Quick Guide is enough to get you started but be sure to download the full manual. I suggest beginning with Beginner Mode turned on regardless of experience and especially if you have never flown a quad copter before. Then slowly begin to expand your horizons. The kit has everything you need EXCEPT a smart phone or tablet to view what the camera sees and to work through the app. The DJI web site has a list of APPROVED devices you need to check out, not just any smart phone or tablet is approved and will work seamlessly with DJI's integrated system. The app for Android or Apple is free to download. Your tablet does NOT need to have cell service to fly a P3. What you need is to have maps for the area you'll be flying in and w/o cell service in the tablet to make that happen simply be sure to open Google Maps while you're at home and the tablet is connected to your Wi-Fi. So when you get to your flying location the maps will be cached and ready for you to use. It's a lot of fun but there's a lot to think about too, obstacles, people structures, trees, power lines, no-fly zones, strong winds aloft, other peoples privacy, your ability to control aircraft responsibly. But once you get a handle on the logistic - what fun. The video quality is great in 1080P or 4K and the photos are not bad either. The sensor is a SONY sensor and the same size you'll find in most point and shoot cameras so don't pixel peep because its not bad at all for what it is. In the real world i get about 18 minutes on a battery and the 16GB card it comes with will hold plenty of photos and good bit of video to begin with so no need to rush out to get that 64GB card just yet. Have fun and fly safe.

I researched for my first drone purchase. I looked at about 10 diff types. And by far this Phantom 3 pro is the best for your money with this new 4k camera. It took me about 10 mins to learn how to fly it and control it with no problem . Very accurate and very stable. Im a first time flyer and i can say i feel like i been flying for about 6 months now. I do recommend grabbing 2 extra batteries so when u are out u have extra time to fly and record the perfect 4k videos and pics. it takes amazing videos and pics. I was blown away by this drone. I love it and I'm glad i chose this one. very well worth the money.

I have had 4 previous Phantom models but the Pro Model is the best mainly due to a much better remote which uses the larger Ipad Air 2. The other plus is the 4K camera. Hope they will come up with a way to use the new Ipad Pro which I will receive today. Very easy to fly and picture quality 5 star. For the money its a lot of Bang for the buck. I have done two firmware's since receiving no problem after reading up on the instructions. I am a retired Airline Pilot of a Major Carrier (NWA 1995)

I purchased a small drone first to see if I would like flying a drone at all. The small drone was sensitive and difficult to fly with limited flight time per charge (10 minutes). I had researched this product extensively, but was reluctant to spend that kind of money on a "toy". I accidentally found it on sale when walking through the store and found it to be the best deal going, so I bought it. I am so glad that I did. It has been far more fun than the small inexpensive drone because it has been easy to fly. I have had the drone for a couple weeks and already have over 5 hours of flight time. This drone flies by itself and I only have to tell it where to go. If I start to have a problem then I just release the joystick and it self corrects to a hover. I have found most people panic and accidentally cause the complex stick command (CSC) and cause it to crash. I also found a website to check out if you are interested in a drone. www.myfirstdrone.com It will provide a lot of information about different drones and their capabilities. I have enjoyed this drone very much but I have had difficulty with finding information on how to do various things, so I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Here are some of the capabilities of the drone and software. 1. GPS tracking 2. Logging of flight time 3. Sonic and optical stabilization for steady hovering within 3 meters of the ground. (Phantom 3 Professional) 4. Return to home. This happens automatically when the battery gets low or if it loses signal to the controller. WARNING. The drone must have an obstacle free path home as it will not avoid obstacles when this protocol is running. 5. Point of Interest. This makes the drone fly in a circle around a single point 6. Follow me. 7. Live video stream to a phone or tablet connected to the controller. 8. Beginner mode (Limits the distance from you to 30 meters max) Once you get this drone you will not want to play with the small inexpensive ones because they are too difficult to control.

    Amazing Technology

I have been watching DJI grow their product line for quite some time and have wanted a quadcopter for years, I finally pulled the trigger during the Black Friday sale. The amount of technology you get in this package is amazing. If you would have told me 2 years ago that for just over a thousand dollars you could have a GPS quadcopter with real time HD image transmission at up to 2-3 miles, a 4k camera without the fisheye distortion and 17-23 minute flight times, I would have thought you were dreaming. The package comes with everything you need to get up in the air flying (except the MANUAL) it has a quick start guide but be sure to read and re-read the manual that you can download from the DJI website, the current version of the manual as of this review is V 1.6 Here is the link to that version: https://dl.djicdn.com/downloads/phantom_3/en/Phantom_3_Professional_User_Manual__V1.6.pdf Here is a link to DJI download page so you can check the most current version for manuals and firmware etc: http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-3-pro/info#downloads Oh and don't forget that if you use Photoshop CC 2015 there is a Native lense profile for the Phantom 3 Pro. The Phantom 3 Pro does not have the fisheye distortion that the Phantom 2 has but it does have a very minor amount of distortion and you will be able to tell after you use the Lightroom, or Photoshop profile but hey, Even the Inspire 1 has a Photoshop and Lightroom profile to correct lense distortion. I didn't edit either of these photos, and I didn't use the Photoshop profile for Phantom 3's so you can see there is not much distortion. They have been cropped and that is it, and they were taken without any color profiles, not anything great since we have been having bad weather but here are a couple of my first photos with this flying camera. The mountain shot is a 5 shot aeb bracketed photo with no filters on the camera or in post. The 2nd shot is a quick shot of the sunset during an inversion we are suffering in Utah, again no filters on camera or in post, the sky colors are as close to exactly what they looked like in person (it never looks as good as in person to me with any camera)

I replaced a disappointing 3DR Solo with a Phantom 3 Pro and I love it in every way. Controls are better, and the camera and gimbal are superb. The range is ridiculously impressive. Also, the complete kit is less than a similar Solo. It's a no-brainer. It's stable, fast, and an excellent platform to start your drone work with. Highly recommended, two thumbs way up.

Love it! Highly recommend extra batteries. I purchased an 8 inch tablet solely for my P3P, larger screen is fantastic. The camera is great (no zoom unfortunately), definitely need to invest in filters. Great aerial platform, there are better, but easily $2-3k more. DJI Go app is refined and informative, there's also 3rd party apps if you don't want to use GO. I look forward to flying my P3P daily, weather permitting. As of the new year, you are required to register with the FAA.

After a not so smooth start at updating the firmware, once we were in the air it handled like a dream. The 4K video is fantastic, though I would suggest purchasing a 32 to 64 Gig card because 16G fills up to quickly. 20 Minutes + on the battery is very good, but I would also suggest at least one additional battery.

While $1,300 may sound expensive, this drone is worth every penny. It's great that it self-stabilizes, uses GPS, has a failsafe to land at the same place it took off if it loses connection with the remote or the batteries run low, awesome photos and video, and the list goes on and on. The app is pretty nifty, too, though does require a little getting used to. What's even cooler is the live HD feed to your phone/tablet, and the ability to fly the thing 3.2 miles away. Blew my expectations right out of the water!

Super easy to fly, especially if you've been flying cheaper drones, excellent app, and great accessories/upgrades from Dji. If your serious about pics and video, get polar pro filters, they greatly improve the image quality over the stock lens cover. Over all super awesome UAV for the money!
