I am a fan of Stephen King Adaptations of his books into movies . Doctor Sleep , I think was a sleeper did not get the recognition that it deserved at the Cinema . A little long . once the story evolves it ties into the shining with the original music sound track into the film. although I am a big fan of Stanley Kubrick movie which I heard Stephen king was not in to . too me it has a similar vibe accept with the kid grown up and these type of vampires trying to get rid of the small percent of people who have the gift to shine.

What a great addition to The Shining. All of the characters did a great job telling the story. I have to admit I jumped in my seat 2 different times throughout the movie and based on all of the horror movies I have seen in my life, that really says something for the quality of film making. The movie did not have the same visual effects as The Shining but fit perfectly with the original story. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of The Shining.

Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining is considered a classic (unless you’re Stephen King). It seems like creative and career suicide to think you can make a sequel to his film. Realistically it would have been safer to make a standalone film and call it an adaptation to the novel and stay as far away from Kubrick’s film altogether... but thankfully this movie dared to be both! It works great in being respectful to both sources and is worth a watch! The 4K blu-ray is top notch, and the director’s cut is a superior version of the film. If I had one gripe (which does remove one star) is that the 4K disc is the theatrical cut only. Disappointing. Still highly recommended!

Fans of both Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" will be pleased at the story of grown up Dan Torrance learning to overcome his demons (both inherited and supernatural) to defend a young girl with the same psychic abilities from a group of evil predators. Strong acting from the whole cast (especially Rebecca Ferguson as the powerful and malevolent "Rose The Hat") and top notch visual effects that accent rather than overpower this excellent adaptation of King's novel.

Let's face it- almost all sequels are, by nature, totally unnecessary. This is no exception to that "rule". However, that said...is is one fine sequel. It expands on the information and events of the first film...it is lovingly executed in a way that honors and pays tribute to the original...the performances are all magnificent...the script is written by someone who clearly not only loves the original but wanted to produce a great film. It's a tad on the long side in terms of duration, but...that doesn't ever bother me unless the film FEELS long, which this one did not. Highly recommended for fans of both the original fiolm and horror.

I really enjoyed this movie. I did not have much of an idea of what it was about until I actually rented it one evening. I knew the first one was a scary type movie and assumed this was similar. I put it in and started watching it, wow, great movie! It turned out to be something or the type of movies I do enjoy! It wasn't scary it was interesting and just wow. Great movie! I would definitely reccomend this for anyone, much better than the first one!

When I first heard the premise of this film being a sequel to The Shining I was quite skeptical and thought "great more cheap cash in nostalgia bait". To my surprise this was a great film that manages to both stand on its own and be a sequel to the shining that doesn't need to use the first film as crutch. I loved it so much that after renting it I decided I wanted to own it since I could see myself rewatching it many times in the future.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going into this movie. The Shining came out so long ago that the sequel was somewhat an afterthought to me. I wasn't familiar with this story or really how it tied into the Shining other than what I saw from the trailer but was pleasantly surprised with how everything played out. If you were a fan of The Shining this sequel definitely adds to the expanded story so it's definitely worth the watch. I'd recommend watching the original first just to get a quick refresher. Definitely makes for a better experience so you know exactly what's going on.

DR. SLEEP is a good movie and possibly even better if you are a bigger fan of the original Steven King movie THE SHINING. I found it rather slow, but interesting, as it concerns the child from the first film- Danny- who grows up continuing to have his gifts from the first film. The cast is good, the story is good, but the pacing could have been a bit better. It also seemed a bit long to me, but I don't recall how long the film actually was. I got this movie for a ladyfriend of mine for a birthday present, and she really enjoyed the movie. So maybe check it out as a rental before purchasing it.

For sequels to decades old movies this along with Blade Runner 2049 rate at the top spots in my personal list. Doctor Sleep has no business being as good as it is but leave it to the director of Oculus and Netflix's Haunting of Hill House to do it right! The extended cut is the verison I immediately sought out and unfortunately didn't catch it in theaters. Amazing film with only a slightly fine ending. Definitely a must watch and own next to the original Shinning!

This is a very different movie from The Shinning. It is more of a supernatural suspense. But the focus on "Shinning" and getting deeper into that ability was a cool way to take it. It does fit in pretty well with the original movie and you do go back to The Overwatch Hotel for more exploration of that location. The audio and video are very good as this was struck from an actual 4K master. The art on the steel book is much better than the standard release.

I'm not a fan of horror movies, and this is a sequel of sorts for The Shining - but we are fans of Ewen McGregor (Obi-Wan) so we gave it a shot. To be honest, we checked the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and it did very well (around 86%). It was a really good movie. It was easy to follow and quite interesting. There definitely is a horror component, but it is just a part of a very good movie. At least twice I got goose bumps during the film.

Admittedly, I’ve never been a big fan of Kubrick’s “The Shining.” I‘ve always thought it was a mess of an idea. However, this sequel to that film/novel really surprised me. Be sure to watch the accompanying Director’s Cut if the film, as it really fleshes put some of the scenes even more. It’s a great character study of a recovering alcoholic and asks the question: “Are we ever able to escape our pasts?” Please search this out; it’s a great movie!

This is a great product and an awesome sequel! Everything you'd want and expect for a continuation of the shining a generation later, with excellent visuals and many references to past occurrences! Absolutely magnificent psychological build-up!

When I first saw the trailer for this film I thought this might be something I enjoy. Even though I didn’t read the book from I saw on the net it follows the book close enough. When I finally got to watch in theaters I thoroughly it enjoy and I knew this would be a film a add to my blu-ray collection. Interesting story and characters to boot my favorite character from the film has to be Abra Stone. When you watch the film you’ll know why.

I watched this with the wife late Saturday night and it was a good movie. Both of us were very tired, but once the movie got going we were both wide awake watching. Very good movie and it looks great in 4k while also sounding good listening with 7.2.4, It's a good movie that's worth a watch. I barely remembered the previous movie, but that was completely fine with the way this story was told. Good move to watch with NO KIDS around.

This my movie hyped for me. I saw the trailer and that's it. Man, was I satisfied with Doctor Sleep. The director's cut was 3 hours long, felt 3 hours, but did not drag at all. The cast was good. Directing was good. Editing was good. Now, the directors cut us only on the BD disc. The theatrical cut us on the 4K only. PQ and AQ were a treat. I'd highly recommend getting this, if you're into Stephen King, the books, and the 1980 Kubrick film.

Make no mistake about it, “Doctor Sleep” is a bonafide sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s classic 1980 film, “The Shining”. Ewan McGregor does a great job as an adult Danny Torrence who is not only trying to deal with his ability to “shine” but also the demons from his past. This all comes to a head when he has to protect a young girl that is being targeted by a cult that kills those who can shine in order to maintain their youthful lives. The movie may not quite reach the heights of the original classic, but it definitely stands on its own and is a decent sequel to an immortal classic!

Amazing movie! As a fan of the original The Shining and having read both The Shining and Doctor Sleep novels, this movie did justice as an adaptation of the book and a sequel to the movie. I was skeptical at first, but I was amazed at how good this movie is. It's not as good as The Shining but it didn't try to be, and that's why to me it worked. If you're a fan you likely won't be disappointed.

The sequel to the horror classic 'The Shining' directed by Mike Flanagan is a fantastic film. Haven't read the book, but 'Doctor Sleep' is a welcome addition to Steven King's movie universe. The 3 hour director's cut is included on the bluray disc and is well worth the watch. But if that's all you're looking for, the 4K may not be enough of an improvement over the bluray to justify the price difference. Overall, great product.
