Exemplifies the best of Classic Who!

When Sylvester McCoy took on the mantle of the Doctor, I was a confirmed fan and really looked forward to his "take" on the role. I didn't really care for the Colin Baker characterization (too much arrogance and little personal connection with companions and allies). The 7th doctor was a very welcome change and even if Mel (an accomplished actor but just a little too grating on my sensibilities) seemed out of touch with him, he was still a fine mix of cleverness and comedy. Once Ace was brought in, the partnership was solidified. This final season has some of the best and deepest stories of the (then) series. It is obvious (to me) that Davies, Moffatt and Chibnall were absolutely influenced by the directions the serial was taking. Of course, the books in the New Adventures series helped set the stage for the 2005 series depth and direction. I'm extremely pleased with all of the extras in this blu-ray set and may have to finally cycle out my VHS collection. Maybe. Or not. I mean, if I still have the room for them. Right?

Another Great Doctor Who Blu-ray Set!

A wonderful Classic Doctor Who blu-ray release! While it is unfortunate that most of the classic season was shot on video tape and therefore will never be true High Definition, this is the best the episodes have ever looked. They benefit nicely from the bandwidth that blu-ray offers. And top it off, there are plenty of special features to go around, so this set will keep you busy for a good while before you run out of things to watch! Well worth the price for the love and care that this set was given! For those who know that these Doctor Who sets are also released as a limited edition with special packaging in the UK, this US edition comes in standard packaging and does not include a slipcover or an informational booklet.

Great Doctor Who Season, But Low on Extra Features

I am one who generally does not like much of anything about the John Nathan Turner era of Doctor Who because of his had rather poor aesthetic tastes and very little knowledge of Story. Still, most of Peter Davison's reign was pretty good. But the stories, costumes, and sometimes nihilistic aspects of Colin Baker were crazy. Even though Sylvester McCoy was an improvement from the beginning, and the incoming script editor Andrew Cartmel began to exert some positive influence on the stories, it wasn't until this season that pretty much every story is at least good (though the previous season had at least one all-time great: Remembrance of the Daleks). This one has the enjoyable Battlefield, the somewhat overstuffed but highly atmospheric Ghost Light, the thematically rich Curse of Fenric, and the final "classic era" episode, Survival. I just wish there were more extra features.

This is a must have for me but the episodes really are just transferred vhs video taped copies on to a blu ray disc. Back in the late 80’s the BBC taped all Doctor Who episodes on video tapes. So this is the best these will ever look.

This was Sylvester McCoy's final season as The Doctor. The set includes Battlefield, Ghost Light, The Curse Of Fenric, and Survival. This season was excellent! Buy this you will not be disappointed.

Sylvester McCoy wasn't my first Doctor but he is definitely my favorite. Watching classic Doctor Who on bluray is a great way to spend a rainy day.

More Doctor Who on Blu Ray is always a good thing! Though Sylvester McCoy isn’t the most well known Doctor, it’s still a fun ride!

Lots and lots and lots of extra. And the upscaled worked to blu-ray, since it was shot on video tape. I enjoyed it.

This was the season that originally ended it all. Even knowing that, it was still an enjoyable romp, and I really wish both this Doctor, and his companion Ace had more screen time than they were allowed.
