Not every story of a series is good. Star Trek TOS had 'Spock's Brain,' and others. Doctor Who had 'The Macra Terror,' and others. Still, I like it and I want to see it. One of the Lost, reborn. Good or Bad, they're part of the whole, and I dare say the animated Macra look better than the filmed ones.

A solid farewell to the Original Doctor

First off, the description is wrong, this is only a 2 disc set. There has never been a 3 disk version available. Outside of that, this is a great story. The Doctor (William Hartnell) and his companiions Ben and Polly arrive in Antarctica in 1986 just in time for the Cybermen to arrive on Earth. The special features, like all Doctor Who DVDs are extraordinary, including production notes, commentaries and much, much more. Sadly, most of the final episode does not exist in the BBC archives, so it is represented here as an animated form, alongside the version released for video cassette many years ago. I highly recommend this to any fan of Doctor Who, or for someone just getting into the 1960's era of the show.

It's a great story, and also Hartnel's last. Unfortunately, the animation on the missing episode is really cruddy, which kind of messes up the enjoyment. It's the same people they used in The Moonbase, but for some reason it doesn't work as well here.

This Doctor Who story aired once on the BBC in 1967, then the broadcast prints were lost. Now you can watch it as an animated reconstruction. The flash animation is a bit limited, but holds up just fine. The audio is authentic, as it was recorded off-air by a fan on its one and only showing in the U.K. Extras include brief fragments of surviving film from the story, commentary tracks, and animation tests. Originally recorded and aired in black & white, the story is presented that way. A color version is also provided.

Remarkable ending for the First Doctor

Despite this program being produced in 1966,England, it still holds up as a creepy and effective story. Episode 4 of 4 is animated since the original print for the fourth episode has been lost in time (if only the BBC knew how important it would be to save Who from the furnace). Those who are Sci Fi fans would love this title, especially since the Cybermen were the precursor to the Borg from Star Trek TNG. The atmosphere combined with some very decent acting from a multi-cultural cast make this a wonderful example of science fiction. The budget for the production was slim, however this did not stop the designers and writers from creating a story that still holds up today. This DVD is filled with wonderful extras, Coming attractions, and restored original episodes from the First Doctor era.

In the 1970s, the BBC cleared out their program archives, resulting in the loss of many Doctor Who stories from the 1960s. For decades, only episode 3 of this 4-part story survived in the archives until 2011, when a private collector, who had no idea he owned the only surviving copy of episode 2, returned it to the BBC. Both episodes (the earliest surviving with the 2nd Doctor) are presented here, with episodes 1 and 2 replaced with stills synced up to the surviving soundtrack. Definitely worth watching as a rare example of early Doctor Who!

This Doctor Who story is the 2nd Doctors first encounter with the cybermen since regenerating in the story The 10th Planet, Which was the first ever cybermen story and the last for the first Doctor played by William Hartnell. a few episodes are animated though because original footage has been lost and all they had was the audio to work with, but they did wonders with making the animation match the footage they have for the other episode. all in all a must have for any Doctor Who fan.

The animation is not bad. The sound is really great. They did a really great job on cleaning up the sound. From what I understand this is from old audio tape recordings from watchers who recorded it from their TV speaker. It's nice to see it, and not be stuck with old photo stills.

If you are a fan of Doctor Who, this is a great DVD to see one of the formative early appearances of the Cybermen interacting with one of the greatest Doctors (the Second Doctor played by Patrick Troughton). The program itself is delightful and the special features that the BBC includes on each Doctor Who disk are much appreciated. Highly recommended for all fans of Doctor Who.

The final episode for the very first Doctor, William Hartnell. This one should be in everyone's Dr. Who collection. Up until several years ago, the regeneration scene was lost. Luckily it was found in a copy owned by a local grade school. Buy this now!

Recently restored footage lets us check out this cool story. 2 of the episodes are complete while 2 are animated. Seeing as so many of the Patrick Troughten episodes are either missing or incomplete, it's great that we have this at all.

Patrick troughten's stories are all so good that it's a shame so many of them are missing. Episodes 1 and 3 are missing & recreated on this one. Still, his run as the Doctor is still great and this serial is no exception.

Great seeing the missing episodes, whether you like the animation style or not, it's better than not having it available or relying on the TeleSnap versions.

Patrick Troughton is a wonderful doctor. If you like Matt Smith's doctor, you'll like Troughton. Their personalities are very similar and this is a great story to stat with.
