One of Dolly Parton’s more popular songs is “Coat of Many Colors.” The song tells a story of how momma Parton sewed together a coat from an assortment of colorful rags. This movie is an adaption of that song and episode in Dolly’s childhood. The movie is a well-constructed production: the script is tight and witty, the acting ensemble was well cast, an ample budget is evident, and many timely messages were conveyed. Alyvia Alyn Lind portrays young Parton, and does an excellent job. Lind is a fresh, plucky young actress who provided a consistent tone through the whole movie. Cast as her mother, Jennifer Nettles compliments Lind with an equally quality performance. Country music fans know Nettles can sing, but who knew she could act! She comes across as a seasoned veteran. Ricky Schroder, though not given much opportunity to show the depth of his acting skills, holds down his part as father Parton. The remaining Parton clan is cast with young actors who generate authentic chemistry. Thanks to a well written script, many of the young actors were provided with funny and entertaining lines that reminded me of the ensembles from the Little Rascals/Our Gang series. This event in Dolly’s life may not have happened exactly as portrayed in the movie, but nonetheless, the sentiments and messages of love, tolerance, forgiveness, friendship, patience – and other ideals – are well presented without coming across too sappy. All in all, the movie is a quality family movie which can be viewed multiple times. Unfortunately, it seems like these types of movies are harder and harder to come by. This movie would make Scrooge smile!

Dolly Parton's story is amazing! The whole family will enjoy this movie.

Loved the movie loved the song and meaning behind it

First off, this is NOT my kind of movie, but it surely is my WIFE'S! Picked this up for her after she said she loved it when it aired last Christmas...........a nice telling of Dolly Parton's story as seen through her early age and hardship's of that period of her life. Wow! Talk about inspiring, sometimes tough times lead to strong hearts, and this certainly shows that. A nice family picture for all to enjoy and reflect on. Miss Dolly, you did great!

This is one of my favorite classic country songs and the movie did it justice! What a heart warming story and what an excellent cast! I loved it on tv and couldn't wait to buy it on disc! CANT WAIT for the next Dolly Parton song into movie - ive read its JOLLENE!!!! A+

I bought this as a Mother's Day gift. My Mom had seen the movie and loved it! We had looked several places for it with no luck. I finally found it at my local Best Buy and the day I went in to get it, it was the only one they had left. Talk about luck!

Best Christmas movie every!! Inspirational and fun... true Dolly Parton humor, style and class. First on my list for holiday movies! Bought this as a gift to share this gem!!

Good clean fun in this old country movie about rough times and hardships filled with love and laughter. Laugh and cry with the memories of the "good ole days". A must buy for any country bumpkin.

This is a wonderfully made story that is good for the whole family. It has the earnestness of the best movies I remember watching as specials back when we only had 3 networks.

This is a cute movie. The girl who played Dolly, did an excellent job with the acting. She really played Dolly very well. Loved the other cast of actors and actresses as well.
