Its pricey but this 4k collection of Donnie Darko from Arrow really delivers. Beautiful double sided poster (which I'm going to get framed cuz its that nice) and art card inserts included along with a nice little booklet that tells a lot about the movie itself which gives different insights. The 4k discs themselves look and sound great and I personally did not have any issues with the theatrical cut like many people are reporting. All in all, if you're a Donnie Darko fan and have the means to play 4k discs then do yourself a favor and pick this up!

Got this for my husband as a Christmas gift and he absolutely loves it! It came in a sturdy box to hold the disc box and the book. The postcards and poster are beautiful. My personal disappointment is that it does not include a digital copy of the film like most 4K bluray movies do, but that's not a big deal.

Donnie Darko is a great movie that requires multiple viewings. This psychological film is set in the 80s and has a great soundtrack, including Gary Jules's version of Mad World, a song originally by Tears For Fears. The film is eerie, funny, poignant, touching, frightening, tragic, and dramatic. Wonderful acting by Mary McDonnell, Jake Gyllenhaal, his sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Beth Grant. Drew Barrymore, Noah Wyle, and Jena Malone also star. This Blu-ray set is great, although the special features could be improved. There are a couple of weird featurettes that could be better than what they are or could be omitted altogether. Overall, though, a great buy and a must-see film.

Despite the known disc errors occurring with the theatrical cut of the film (the one with young Jake Gyllenhaal), the package that makes up the overall release is wonderful. The book is absolutely splendid, the poster is of incredible quality, and the poster cards included with the 4K are a nice little bonus. Also, Arrow has now started a disc replacement program for those who have purchased this release. Overall, you’re getting your money’s worth for a great deal!

As someone who isn't particularly vulnerable to nostalgia, I was going into this expecting not to like it nearly as much as I did as a teen. Shockingly, I was enthralled from start to finish. The filmmaking is excellent, the acting is great, and the story is memorable and unique. This 4K remaster is also excellent, with crisp video and a clear, vibrant 5.1 audio mix.

Very good acting and writing. The story is told in an unusual format that actually works for this film as it wouldn't for some. It can be very confusing at times and will take several times of viewing to fully "grasp" but that is part of the fun with this one. It keeps you thinking well after you viewed it and can spark up some good conversation/ debates with fellow film lovers. Your love for the film will depend on how much you care to immerse yourself in the world and think about life in a different way. This may annoy some but either way it is enjoyable visually and through the performances given. Not for everyone but this is why it has more of a cult following.

After watching this new 4k collectors version I’ve come to the conclusion that the directors intent for this movie doesn’t translate well to HDR. I think this version looks nice and crisp with the added resolution bump from 1080p but my problem lies with the luminance levels. I fully understand that the directors intent for this film was to shoot it dark. Most scenes are underexposed so you have midday scenes in which shadow detail is completely crushed but still have some relatively bright highlights. In SDR this doesn’t present much of a problem because darker parts of the image tend to be lifted a bit higher and don’t get as dark as HDR, while highlights are of course much dimmer. This effect, IMO, in HDR just doesn’t work. Those shadows get VERY dim while the highlights get fairly bright, this creates a weird dark yet bright effect that just doesn’t look right. I never looked at the SDR version of this movie and thought it didn’t look right.
TL;DR the directors visual intent for this movie just doesn’t translate to HDR.

Donnie Darko. Sounds like a superhero’s name. This movie is top notch. There was nothing quite like it before and there hasn’t been a movie like this since. It was well deserved to get a 4K release and in Dolby Vision HDR no less. The film hasn’t looked better. You get both theatrical and directors cut. One of the few cuts that truly makes a difference. Both cuts are great.

I very much enjoyed DONNIE DARKO. I'm not entirely certain how it became the "classic" that it did, but it is a very fun film, with enough character layers & storylines to allow for repeat viewings. It strangely reminds my of a sci-if version of MAGNOLIA.
I was NOT much of a fan of the director's cut; I felt like it removed the punch of so much of the flick. Fortunately, this lovely, 2disc edition gives you BOTH versions plus extras, so you (or I) can go back through & rediscover what those many layers reveal, or just enjoy the great soundtrack & often darkly surreal visuals.

Arrowfilms has stepped up in addressing the issue with their theatrical release 4K disc (https://arrowfilms.com/news/donnie-darko-uhd-replacement-programme/).
The extras in this deluxe set are nice but do NOT overshadow the lackluster job of whoever was hired to transfer this cult classic into 4K-UHD (if that's what you want to call it). Now I know why Steven Spielberg personally reviews his 4K releases. And, did Richard Kelly really "supervise and approve" this release, because he gave up any controlling rights to the Donnie Darko franchise before it was even released at Sundance. I felt like I had just popped in a VHS cassette (if peeps can remember what those looked like) into my Panasonic 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray player, but with better sound. Well at least I didn't have to rewind the cassette or face a $1 rewinding fee at the movie rental store.
Oh yeah, there's NO DIGITAL COPY which is the norm for Arrowfilm productions. It looks like they're trying to establish their own monthly subscription to watch their reproductions. No Thanks!
I'm praying the theatrical release replacement has been redone correctly. Stay tuned!

I’m not sure why it skips on certain players but I don’t think it’s the disc. I used a Sony X800m2 originally and it played fine. For testing I put it into my ps5 as well, the disc started to play like a slideshow. I’ve heard Panasonic players have the same issue. Nevertheless, it played perfectly on my actual player and I enjoyed the movie thoroughly.

Amazing cult classic! Finally transferred to be watchable. Heads up there are issues with the theatrical cut and Arrow video is offering replacement discs for anybody that buys it through other retailers. The directors cut is great a little extra time with our boy Donnie Darko. Depending on your tv and your settings this movie can look very dark.

First things first this is a great movie and I recommend that anyone sees it at least once or twice because it is certainly an experience. As far as the packaging goes arrow video always does an amazing job and this is no exception it is loaded with bonus content and a lot of cool extra things that make it well worth the purchase price

A great movie overall and even better in 4K on a big home television to appreciate it with. The extras that come with this are really neat and make paying the extra price worth it. The poater is very unique and fitting for the dark nature of the movie, and the booklet provides that little extra something special.

Review for product presentation and packaging, not of the film or restoration quality. Fantastic release in sturdy slipbox; photos, poster and book are nice accessories to the set.
Initial run had an issue with the theatrical 4K disc, but Arrow have a disc replacement program if your copy has issues.

Just bought and watched this afternoon. Only saw it once about 15 years ago when I was in high school and didn't like it. I did like it this time, it is a thinker and better than a lot of movies. But I would say it is not worth the high price tag. Video was decent for its age, and sound was good, it got me to scream once it kicked in and scared me.

Great looking 4K Visuals as expected whenever Arrow Video takes hand at the mastering process. However, I do have to note that the theatrical disc does have stuttering frame issues but that can be easily resolved by contacting Arrow Video for a replacement disc.

At first I didn't know what I was getting into. I thought "okay, this is a decent movie, a little confusing, but good". Then I watched it again a few weeks later with a friend that wanted to watch it. I was blown away with what I had put together in my head. Then I promptly started to google this movie and look at all the theories. Don't spoil it for yourself. It is a must watch classic.
