"Don't Breathe" a Nasty Piece of Work

I walked into this movie as blind as the character played to creepy perfection by Stephen Lang (remember him? the evil mercenary in "Avatar"). Three kids break into the house of a visually impaired veteran, lured by rumors that the strange old man who lives alone in the dilapidated house down the block has hoarded his disability checks. Easy pickings, right? That's what they think. What they get is a war zone of booby traps and minefields that is filmed with a terrifying sense of claustrophobia by young director Fede Alvarez. If you like horror/suspense that is both clever and unsparing, then this gut-punch is one that will leave you gasping.

I did see this during its theatrical run and during its release season it was absolutely one of the best horror movies, with heaping helpingss of suspense thriller thrown in along with an ending you didn’t see (or didn’t want to see) coming. Nice Blu-Ray, excellent price @ Best But. Just a shame it wasn’t released as a UHD Blu-Ray because several lesser horror films released in the same season were and this one really deserved the deluxe treatment over most of the others.

It as refreshing to see a movie with an interesting plot for once. I was getting tired of horror always relying on "found footage" or some other overused plot device. It was a nice change here because I almost did not know who to root for at first. ***Trailer spoiler*** as they show these people went in to rob this guy, so they aren't exactly saints. They do a good job keeping the tension built up, and there is a lot of violence. And there are few genuine moments of "wow are we really going there?" Great movie for horror fans.

I was hesitant to purchase this movie, because lately most suspenseful movies are so disappointing. From the start this movie showed promise and carried a good storyline. I found myself holding my breath through most of the movie. 3 young thieves decide to enter the home of a blind man to rob him of a small fortune he received in the wrongful death of his only daughter. Seems easy enough but viewers are in for a rollercoaster ride. Well acted and great storyline. From the creator of Evil Dead, you will not be disappointed!

I did not think the theatrical trailer for this movie looked good at all, so I was pleasantly surprised that the movie turned out to be a pretty good thriller. The acting was good and the movie had some unique plot twists. It is suspenseful at times and has a couple of decent scares. The Blu Ray quality of the movie is very good. There are a lot of dark scenes in the movie and the quality of these scenes looked very good. Also, the audio was very good. Overall this movie tuned out to be a pleasant surprise.

I haven't seen this movie yet but bc of it's upcoming sequel I had to purchase it for that reason and I here this movie is really good but hope the sequel doesn't pull what 'Escape Room 2' pulled and tell you everything that happened in the last movie in the first 2 minutes making me realized I had no reason to watch the first film before seeing the sequel.

The movie is super tense early on and it gets there too fast. A fun movie but it doesn't have much rewatchability. The suspense wears out quickly

This movie stars Stephen Lang and is a slightly different take on the horror genre, almost like a Rated R "Home Alone". My friends and I all enjoyed this movie in the theater opening weekend and I couldn't pass this up, especially on sale for $10.
If you are in the mood for a good horror flick I highly recommend "Don't Breathe" as well as "Lights Out".
This version came with an UltraViolet Copy that can be redeemed on CinemaNow, Vudu, Flixster, and others.

Not Horror But A Good Thriller

Fede Alvarez surprised me with his Evil Dead remake/sequel and I am always intrigued when a movie gets such a high Rotten Tomatoes score (it's usually the exact opposite of what I think of the film, leading me to believe the producers creates thousands of fake accounts to get it so high) but Don't Breathe was cool, thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. Some exciting turns in the story kept it going, I wouldn't call it a horror movie but a thriller no doubt.

This was a film that I had heard numerous positive reviews about, and was something I blind-bought the first day it hit Blu-ray.
I'm pleased to say that for the most part, the praise was warranted, as this has some truly nail-biting bits peppered throughout, especially after our three thieves find themselves trapped in the house with the 'helpless' blind man, who soon proves to be much more capable than they expected.
Good stuff, well worth a look if you're a horror fan.

Great modern horror film

This movie was very edgy and had a real modern day horror feel to it. As it goes along through the story, the person who is the original victim of a robbery(a blind man at that) becomes the aggressor. Your overall feel for those committing the crime changes. It doesn't rely on bloody carnage or a knife wielding maniac. I think this movie is good because it is original and not like the usual cliched remake we continue to see in the horror genre.

Don't Breathe is interesting. It tells the story from the perspective of three home intruders who are attempting to rob an old veteran. To give it a fresh twist, the old man has lost his sight, allowing him to often be in full view of the thieves while still maintaining the suspense of will he hear them or will he stumble upon their hiding space. It's a fantastic addition to modern horror and worthy of your time.

I don't know why Best Buy wants me to review a movie on their site. It would be more appropriate on a site specifically for movies such as imdb. The movie was intense, well acted and worth seeing. The dvd ran without problems just like any dvd I could buy anywhere. I do not appreciate having to write a review every time I spend 3 minutes in their store to buy a dvd. So, in the future, I will probably go elsewhere to buy dvds for my collection just to avoid this.

Don't Breathe was a nice surprise that I saw in theaters earlier this year. Stephen Lang is awesome as the blind man who is both protagonist and antagonist in this nail biting thriller. The director uses inventive camera angles and uses old fashion suspense to weave a terrifying story of three young people who break into the wrong man's home. I would recommend this film to anyone wanting to see a good no nonsense action thriller.

One of the better horror films to be released in the last couple of years, along with The Green Room. A trio of teenagers decides to break into a blind man's house to steel his fortune - and has the tables turned against them by the inhabitant. There are twists a plenty (perhaps one too many for some) and suspense and tension expertly executed. The disc features a fine transfer and good sound. The standout amongst the extras in a good audio commentary.

Technical Specs & Performance:
Aspect Ratio: 2.39:1 - Expect black bars on the top and bottom of most television. Excellent black levels, dimly lit scenes are crystal clear.
Audio: DTS-HD Master 5.1 - Impressive 5.1 audio track. DON'T BREATHE sounds incredible. Rich bass, clear highs, and clean mids.

There are a lot of movies released every year and many of them or bad/silly and not worth the time. Thrillers can be a real issue at times as they tend to fall into the silly stuff to much of the time. Don't Breath was a nice change of pace and a pretty entertaining watch. You were not always sure what was going to happen and were surprised at least a few times. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't already seen it.

What a wonderful title for this film. It has you holding your breath, literally, as an audience, as the story unfolds. With so many unexpected twists and turns it could easily have lost its way, but director Alvarez keeps your focus and takes his time to thrill you to the very last moment of the film's ending. With so many pulp horror flicks out there, it is great to stumble onto little treasures such as these!
