Picked this up to use as a second screen for a Surface Pro -- something to hold the toolbars in applications like photoshop or have an itunes/web browser off to the side.
First off - this is an old product that the company continues to sell.. I believe it was released in 2009 and is still being sold (5 years later) using the same technology.. so think back to LCD monitors 5 years ago and not the retina displays of today.
The device is powered by USB (USB 2.0) and includes a long USB cable with 2 USB connectors (it will work over 1 connector). It's Mini USB powered so you can use your own cable if you want. USB cable is removable/not permanently attached.
The screen comes as 1 piece with a nice hardshell cover. Size is a bit smaller (height/width) than a Blu-Ray case and about 2x as thick as one. This fits nicely into a laptop bag.
The screen has a removable stylus-looking thing on the back.. this acts as a stand for both vertical or horizontal mode if you don't want to bring the full-sized stand with you.
The full size stand (included) attached with a turn-screw which is NOT attached to the stand and will be very easy to lose. When on the stand, it can tilt up/down. The stand is a bit heavy/bulky, so it's nice to have the mini stand included also.
Viewing angles aren't great.. this is worse than most monitors I've used, but that was also not entirely unexpected. The quality is good.. it's just not up to par with anything you'll find out there today. If you're using it as a 2nd screen to run your email, itunes player, browser or toolbars.. it's perfect.
Resolution is 800x480 (not 800x400 like the product page says). It's a fixed resolution, so it has to be at this.
You will need to install DisplayLink software in order to use it (I'd just download it and not use the included disc as it's several years old)
It DOES work on Windows 7/8/8.1.. BUT there is an issue with 8.1 in that:
1) Most Metro apps will not run at all due to the lower res (will work fine on a larger screen)
2) If you have the monitor in portrait view when you turn the computer on, it will not want to load the desktop. You need to switch to landscape, load the desktop then switch to portrait.
Overall.. I do like it. It gives me room for toolbars and other things when using a Surface Pro (which only has a 10" screen), fits in a bag.. no power required..
The other big downside is the price. You can get a full-size, 21" 1080p monitor at the same price (but you need power). You can even get a 16" 768p USB-Powered one for less than this.. but 16" is too big to carry around a lot of the time. 7" is a really nice size.. if they could up the resolution, viewing angle and add touch.. I'd pay double for it and buy another.

These monitors are small, but very efficient for the small space that we have.

this is my 2nd doublesight 7" purchased within 12 months, used as point of sale customer facing screen. Just plug in the usb cable and windows will detect it as 2nd screen right away. Then drag and drop any window you want to display on it.

Power over USB is great but it wasn't useful
