Customers are saying

Customers regard the gameplay as highly enjoyable and fun, praising its blend of action and familiar Dragon Quest elements. The story and art style also receive positive feedback, although some find the gameplay repetitive after a while. While the music and voice acting are appreciated, a few players found the game's difficulty to be too easy.

This game doesn't live up to the name of normal dragon quest games, but it wasn't terrible. It just didn't live up to the hype. It was pretty okay.

It's fun, but repetitive. The story is a bit of fun and the characters are all voiced well. Graphics are sub-par for the PlayStation 4.

I know the lineage of this dev, action gameplay but very repetitive. I only lasted a few days and gave up on it. Seems the same animation set since the ps2 days.

I didnt like the game as much as it looked good and the reviews it got, I didnt like the fact that you cant free roam like in games like GTA, the only time you can is when your in the ship, or fighting monsters and even then its in a set area

Not your typical Dynasty Warriors style game

If you are expecting this game to be like your typical Dynasty Warriors game, you may be surprised. Unlike the Warriors series with their large maps, this game features smaller arena style maps. It is kind of a mix between your typical horde mode, and tower defence. Some levels are simple "destroy all enemies" missions and others are "destroy all enemies while defending said item.". With the rpg elements such as monster summons and skill point placement, the game feels a bit more strategic than the usual hack and slash game. All in all, If you are hoping for a true Dragon Quest title, you'll be disappointed, but if you can open yourself to an action-rpg lite spinoff, you may enjoy yourself.

A lot of people mistake this game as a dynasty warriors (or musou) type of game, but that's only a little correct. The core gameplay is similar in that you use mostly 2 buttons to string combos together and you fight hordes of enemies, but most of your mission objectives will usually depend on protecting something from being destroyed. There are also more RPG elements in this game than in the typical dynasty warriors. You have a base that acts as a hub of sorts where you can buy new weapons, orbs (these act as armor) and pick up quests to complete. The game takes a while to pick up and get somewhat challenging but when it does you will notice it. There's a lot of challenging side content and post-story content and if you're trying to do everything be prepared to spend a good 50+ hours.

I bought this hoping it would be like Hyrule Warriors, and was not entirely disappointed. It feels a lot slower than HR, but requires a little more strategy and less button-mashing. It's a little easy, but the endgame missions are very challenging.

I'm no veteran of this genre, but i will say this is much more simple and less complicated than a Dynasty Warriors game. Each playable character has a limited set of moves and abilities to do, so there is less combo memorizing than in other games. With that said, this game has more RPG elements than the other do. There is a skill/talent tree for each character you distribute points you get from leveling. The trees aren't massive, but it something to have character progression with, other than weapons and gear you purchase from vendors, or craft. All in all, i recommend it if you are looking for a more "casual" version of DW, but want a more RPGish experience, then this game is for you!

I researched this game pretty heavily before buying due to the confliction reviews surrounding it. I love RPGS in general and Dragon Quest games in particular. In fact the original Dragon Warrior game on the NES was one of the first console RPGS I ever played. Despite going back to the Japanese title of Dragon Quest a few games ago this one is nothing like the original. It's a limited action hack and slash game at the base, not unlike many games like Dynasty warriors to be honest. There are RPG elements thrown in, and a large cast of familiar characters however to appease DQ fans. I knew what I was getting into and I enjoyed this game. It's not your classic DQ game, but that doesn't mean it's not fun. Just like every game with the Mario title isn't about a side scrolling plat former, not all DQ games have to be a RPG either. I will say DQ 8 was one of my favorite games from the series and I hope more traditional games come out for the series but if you can get this on sale or reduced price it's not a bad deal.
