Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince has been a game I've looked forward to with apprehension from it's announcement.
I was not disappointed at all, if anything it's exceeded my expectations! Absolutely fun gameplay, and a great overarching story.
The selection of monsters and the synthesis system really makes even the minimal grinding that's necessary for this type of game fun and enjoyable!

If you are a fan of the excellent Dragon Quest series, this is for you and you will love it. Fans of Pokemon style game will have a good time with this game.

It's more of the Dragon Quest we love. I wish that the game was more involved, but it's a true throwback to the old Dragon Quest Monster game and holds up to the core mechanics that made it good.

For long-time fans of DQ - it’s such a wonderful return to the Monsters series. First off, the bad: the game has pretty poor framefrate, long-ish load times, and compared to other Switch RPGs like Xenoblade it looks closer to something that should be on the 3DS, BUT…that’s it. The gameplay itself is so satisfying, it has a cute story with fun characters (all the better if you’ve played DQ4 as this serves as a “prequel” of sorts), there’s over 500 monsters to collect, raise, customize, and combine, a surprising amount of environments to explore each with 4 rotating seasons that change the landscape, and just so much to do and find overall between the story, battling, and tinkering with your team. I’m just over 20-hours in and have scouted 12.8% of the total monsters, each of which have special, gold-framed, and small + large versions available, as well as up to x3 seperate skill / talent trees that are dependent on their Family Tree and how you combine them. If you’ve played a DQM before you’ll feel completely at home and in love, and if you haven’t…this would be such a wonderful place to start. Highest recommendation if you enjoy RPGs and/or “collection” type games.
Fun for franchise fans BUT with choppy performance

For Dragon Quest fans and/or monster catching/breeding fans this is a great time IF you can overlook the performance issues. It sadly has all of the "expected" issues of a late-gen 3rd party Switch game: choppy frame rates, low resolutions, bad draw distance, pop in etc. That said, if you can ignore that, this is an addictive grind for fans of the franchise and the genre. One final word of warning: comparing this to Shin Megami Tensei/the monster catching/synthesizing/battling mechanics in Persona games is a much better parallel than the go-to Pokemon comparison IMO! The focus is much more on breeding better monsters to build self-sufficient, well-rounded teams than it is on just using the mons you catch for rock/paper/scissors elemental battles (for example: this isn't the kind of game where you'll be taking your starting mon to the end)

The story is simple and the main attraction are the training/collecting/fusing/battling DQ monsters in DQ world. Fun for DQ fan but can be challenging for online and post-game battles. There are a few frame drops noted when playing the game but otherwise enjoy the game.

I'm an old boomer gamer who play the original games back when Gameboy was still a thing and now we have a new entry in the series! I've played through the game and I can say that it's a joy to play as a adult and I can see younger gamers enjoying this as well. That being said you can tell this game was made on a budget compared to the mainline series, but if you love the Dragon Quest series and can find this for a reasonable price it's totally worth the purchase.

The story was subpar, the characters unlikable, and it was missing features (mounts , character customization) that other DQ games have had access to. The gameplay is passable, but the changing seasons felt more like a gimmick than a feature.

This game was so much fun. From the battles to the momster recruiting, as well as the monster breedindbto get stronger monster's. Will definitely replay this game again

A great monster-taming game different from previous entries. It started out tough at first with the first monster you get but once you create a team with a strategy then you can battle with fewer problems.

Move over Pokemon, Dragon Quest Monsters takes the monster collecting formula and knocks it up a few notches. Highly addictive gameplay, a fun if simple story, and the addition of monster synthesis is so much fun.

This is my first dragon quest monsters game. The music, story and gameplay are really good. Maybe the downside are the graphics. But overall it is a really good game.
