A Great Movie, Looks Even Better In 4K. A+ Purchase

Great 4K restoration of the 1981 dark fantasy film. Bonus features make it worth the purchase as well.

Maltin gives it 3 stars (out of 4), but I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 5. It was a disappointment.

It seems like I have been waiting forever for Dragonslayer to be released on blu ray and now on 4k as well. This is a fine 4k transfer and a cause for celebration. A movie that takes me back to the glory days of practical effects circa 1981. The affection and fondness I have for this movie since seeing it in theaters back in the day has remained intact. It is one of my favorites and the reason why I'm an so happy about the 4k transfer. It is absolutely gorgeous, and the atmos track is a beast of a presentation. The soundstage is grand and enveloping. Folks, watch your subwoofer, it is killer. I can't emphasize it any better. Get it!.

Dragon Slayer has been one of my personal favorites since the 1980's. The video and audio quality of this 4K disc are the best Dragon Slayer has ever been. I'm very happy with it. I need to share with other 4K buyer's: the "extras" section is not in HDR, but appears to trigger HDR mode in some if not all TV's. It looks like the entire disc is set to trigger HDR mode, but the content in "extras" is not HDR which is fine, but it needs to be viewed with HDR disabled. It would have been nice if the flag for HDR was disabled in Extras. If reds are over saturated when viewing extras, you will need to disable HDR manually in your TV setting to ensure the extra content presents correctly. Once HDR is disabled the "Extras" look excellent. For the movie + menu screen, HDR needs to be enabled.

Nice upgrade. Plenty of detail. Dark scenes have plenty of grain for those who like that sort of thing but it’s well managed, provides detail and doesn’t detract from the overall picture. Bright scenes are sharp and clear. The movie is of its time for sure but a fun ride. The practical effects hold up well.

Amazing 4k transfer. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos look and sound awesome. Highly recommended.
