This is an old DVD, so when you have a large HD TV the quality of the picture is not too satisfying. The editing of the film is quite horrible, someone tried too hard and it switches angle too often for my taste. That being said, this is one of my favorite albums by Dream Theater, and just to be able to watch them perform it all the way through from beginning to end is a treat. So if you don't care about the stuff I wrote in the beginning, consider it 5 stars.

    Amazing musicianship, distracting production

I've seen Score, Live at Budokan, and this. Out of those, my favorite performance and production wise has been Live at Budokan. This is great show with an excited audience. Myung's performance is worthy of watching as well as listening to; Petrucci makes every effort to be visually entertaining, as does Portnoy. LaBrie isn't quite as good as he is on Live at Budokan, and Rudess looks nervous and undynamic. The absolute downside to this album is the video effects- random multi-panel, mirror images, psychedelic colors, warping....don't watch if it annoys you. The movie version of the album playing behind them is mediocre at best, and gets in the way of seeing the concert. The bonus songs are solid, with an awesome "Change of Seasons" and a "Learning to Live" without the F#. The behind the scenes movies are nothing to write home about- suffice to say that "Metropolis' playing in the background is waaaay more exciting than anything Kevin Shirley has to say.

MUST HAVE FOR DREAM THEATER FANS

DT plays the complete Metropolis II: Scenes from a Memory & Extras: A Mind Beside Itself, a 4-song suite from the Awake (Erotomania, Voices, Silent Man, & Learning to Live) CD & A Change of Seasons from the title named EP. A Dream Theater classic, like most Dream Theater DVD releases. Plenty of music for the $.
