Drones has significant flaws, but overall it has some really good tracks that make up the difference. The worst part about the album is the inclusion of talk tracks. I would say the drill sergeant/psycho tracks are some of the least listenable Muse have ever put out. I don't want to hear an annoying voice throughout an entire track. Three great tracks in a row (Reapers, The Handler, and The Defector) make up the best part of the album. The Handler in particular is incredible. There is always one or two tracks per album that are shockingly out of character for Muse and for this album Revolt is that track. It is so bizarrely out of place, but that doesn't mean it is bad. The finale is grand. The Globalist is epic and is followed by the Gregorian chant-esque Drones. I am impressed by most of the album. It is really great work. Despite the hiccups and cheesy forcing of the word "drones" into every song, this is a must own for fans!

I have always considered Muse to be one of the greatest rock bands ever. I love this album however it does have a couple of annoyances. The track "[Drill Sergeant]" is such a waste of space. It seriously needs to go. I also don't really dig the last 2 tracks that much. "Drones" seems very self indulgent and doesn't really add anything to the album. Same goes for The Globalaist. It's kind of a bloated train wreck of a track. Don't get me wrong, there are some truly epic songs on here. Defector and Revolt are instant classics INHO. Overall it's great. I highly recommend it despite a couple of misgivings. I love Muse!

Muse is back with an album of blistering rock tracks. This album is a little more of a back-to-basics rock album compared to their last album, Plus the production with "Mutt" Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard, etc.) gives the album even more of a highly-polished sound.

So, what to tell you avout this cd? Well, as with most of Muses' s cds it deals with dystopian societies. The way I see it is that it tells the story of a "drone" revolting against the society that created it.
Musically, it's different for Muse. Echoes of the eighties and something else that I've yet to pinpoint. I like it.

No contest. I have, will and will continue to listen to it on repeat for hours and days at a time. 'Dead Inside' practicality owns my soul, while 'Psycho', 'Mercy', 'Reapers', 'The Handler', 'The Globalist', as well as the others are also phenomenal. Love it. Love, love, love, love, love.

A musically diverse album that also haunts. A concept story album about becoming a part in a Orwellian military force and realizing the consequences of being realizing such detachment. The album creates a chilling tone throughout, yet also is very catchy and inspirational.

What can I say? It's Muse. They're not innovative in the music itself, but their innovation and continuity lies in how they use proven music formulas. It's a great album. I have listened to it many times from start to finish, and will continue to.

Every time Muse comes out with a new album I get worried. I'm always afraid I won't like it as much as the last, but they've never let me down and Drones continues that streak. It's easily a top contender for my Album of the Year for 2015!

Bought this CD for my Daughter and she's nearly worn out my player listening to this CD. She Loves it/Loves Muse! I'm an old fuddy-duddy and "don't get it", but that's okay, she does and that's good enough for me!

My wife loves Muse so anything Muse makes a good gift. Surprised at the profanity in two of the songs because that is not usually their style but it fit the mood of the whole album.

Been missing in action for a while, nice to see the change ups in their musicianship and sound while maintaining the things that got me into them from the beginning

Muse does it again, the whole album flows seamlessly. You can just put this on and do anything else at the same time. Political goodness as always!

Muse goes to a dark place for this album while going back to their roots. I have listened to this album countless times and it has yet to get old.

Disappointing release from an otherwise great band

I really like Muse (especially live - Wow!) so it pains me to say this release was quite disappointing. Especially following the previous album which was quite good.
Only a few songs are at all memorable. The spoken word segments (which almost never work anywhere) are really laughably bad. As are the lyrics on some songs. It feels very strained and rushed and uninspired. They seem to have been trying too hard.
Muse's lyrics are often about wild conspiracies but this album takes paranoia over the top into farce. It's all too serious to be taken as comedy and too funny to be taken seriously.
I would recommend it only to the fans who have to have everything Muse, but for casual fans this should be the last of their albums you buy.
I have the deluxe edition but have not found the interest to watch the DVD for this album. I suppose that says something.
The packaging is mostly nice and simple, with complete lyrics. I don't think the cover art is as silly as most have commented actually. Oddly it's a little out of shape of the other deluxe albums in this series.
I debated giving this album 3 stars because even sub-par Muse is better than most of what's out there, but settled for 2 because I'm gauging this against their previous work. So if you're a Muse fan, you'll find enough to like it. If you're not, get a previous album.
