A Western that may not be on you radar

Movie is pretty darn good. The acting is wonderful. For me, it’s a Western that when I first saw it, a few years back, was off my radar. I had never heard of it, but enjoyed watching it. I really wanted to address some of the complaints I’ve read on the internet regarding the video quality of this Blu-Ray. Is it perfect? No. But I would say 95% of the film looks great and is a suitable example of a modestly budgeted film of the 60s that's on Blu-ray. Some of the issues, as in a few night time scenes being a bit overly grainy, may be source related. Other random soft focus shots are disappointing, but probably don’t add up to a minute or two of film time. Let's face it, this isn’t a wildly popular film which would receive a spanking new restoration. But Kino Lorber, the distributor, has released a pretty good looking film here. It is definitely a huge improvement from my non-anamorphic DVD from way back when. And it looks a lot better than the compressed HD stream that I watched from another company's video service recently (the compression on scenes with a lot of action was atrocious!) So don’t be afraid to give this movie a chance. James Garner and Sidney Poitier are great, as well as Bibi Andersson, Bill Travers (Born Free) and Dennis Weaver. It will never be one of the top westerns ever released, but it’s still quite enjoyable.

One of my favorite westerns, it depicts Indians in a positive light, you see there strategy and their methods are halfway explained. James Garner, Dennis Weaver, and Sidney Poitier are three aces too! To me it was just a really good movie and the soundtrack is very unique!!!

James Garner is as tough as they get in this western. The musical score and especially the intro is the best of any western I've seen. Great movie!!
