Almost every scene is visually striking, especially during the 70mm shots, which looked glorious on my Sony XBR65X930C. The aerial shots, the loneliness the movie presents, and the incredibly tense musical score through out only adds to the sense of urgency these men feel as they pray for rescue. One of the best movies to show off your precious 4k display with HDR. Now for the plot itself. Definitely slower paced. The movie starts you off following a group of soldiers in a seemingly empty town as they loiter about keeping busy, when all of a sudden, they are ambushed and picked off one by one. The sudden action keeps you on your toes and from here the tension only builds. A single soldier manages to get away, passing through "friendly" french troops holding the line to the beach where thousands of English men wait for a rescue that may never come. Home is right there, a Colonel says. After this brief spot of action, the movie takes a slower pace. The ambient track is ominous, with a menacing clock ticking in the background. It never lets up. You feel how tense the soldiers are through the score, and despite the lack of action, you are taken through the point of view of 2 soldiers, desperate to find an escape off the beach. Despite their best efforts, twice, they are denied an escape and forced back to the same forsaken beach where thousands of their allies await rescue. The 3rd time happens to be the charm, with the introduction of Harry Style's character, but at what cost? In between the story of these 2 young men, we are introduced to the spitfires squad. These brave men, knowing the dangers of running out of fuel, push on to assist the rescue effort and protect the rescue ships from Heinkel attackers. Tom Hardy shows great emotion through his eyes in these scenes. We are also introduced to a civilian Captain manning a private sooner yacht with his younger son, and the son's best friend as they head out on a civilian search and rescue on a last ditch effort by the British to bring back the men stuck at Dunkirk. They run into a man(Cillian Murphy) at sea, traumatized by the bombing and sinking of his u-boat, rescue him, only to be at odds when the man realizes they are on their way to Dunkirk not back home. The story of these three point of view group of people are intertwined. Though there is no big victory scene or heroic, feel good moment you would find in typical war movies, the movie tells a story of the desperate situation of these young men at war, and leaves you struck for days after having watched the movie. It is not a long movie, running at 106 minutes, but if you felt bored during the movie, give it some time to sink in before you write it off. You just experienced a master piece of story telling, and will leave you with a great pain in your heart if you let it all sink in.

I was intrigued by the events of Dunkirk after watching Darkest Hour so I sought out this movie. I had no idea what happened on the beaches, in the air, and in the waters near Dunkirk and Christopher Nolan's re-telling is fascinating. A truly inspiring story!

Not an average war movie. If you like action, this movie is not for you. It lacks on dialogue, but it’s an astonishing work of art. Beautiful Cinematagraphy! Amazing Soundtrack! And a breathtaking experience. You may think it’s boring, but again, this is a Visual Storytelling. Christopher Nolan...I’ll see you up on the nominations for Best Director at the Oscars. Dunkirk...Good luck with your competition against the other nominees for Best Picture at Oscars.

A Palpable Sense of Fear (Masterpiece)

Nolan fantastically directed this film in which it is being told from three perspectives (non chronologically). Throughout the entire film I was anxious and on edge. I love the fact how Nolan wanted us to feel what each and every soldier that was on the beach was feeling and going through. I was easily able to feel the fear and despair every soldier was experiencing throughout the film. There aren't in depth development of characters as many other films have it. However, it's lack of character development was purposely made by Nolan so we can care for each and every soldier. He wanted to show us what those men were striving for and that was for SURVIVAL. I highly recommend purchasing this movie because it is one phenomenally made WWII movie just like Saving Private Ryan.

A masterpiece. Dunkirk is a thrilling, haunting picture of sound and cinematography. With little to no character development, and mostly drowned out dialogue, this movie is truly a spectacle of action, drama and at times, horror. Such an intense take on war has never been filmed before, and hasn’t had me so immersed in the cinema for many years.

The slow buildup in this film is fantastic. Great performances all around. It's another feather in Christopher Nolan's Directors cap, along with Inception, Interstellar, The Prestige, Memento and the Dark Knight Trilogy.

    Not Your Typical War Movie

This isn’t your typical or movie, where you have a major battle and victory. Instead, it’s a movie about a dire situation that changed the course of the war and had some surprising heroes. Don’t know what’s up with this only having a 1-star review....they were probably confused that this movie didn’t end the war.

A Great War movie by Christopher Nolan

A great cinematic film of events during WW2. The Brits are being pushed out of Dunkirk by the Germans, being trapped by the sea, enduring endless bombings. The British are awaiting to be rescued while being fish in a barrel.

great visuals, interesting concept for a story

I'm not crazy about the movie as a whole, though the concept and visuals are very striking. Because a lot of the film was put on imax, you get super sharp images and it takes up the whole tv screen. Something I wish the dark knight trilogy did more of. video transfer is excellent, I'd say even immaculate due to the IMAX content. the audio as well. The features are interesting too. It is a great historical piece too. I'll try to watch again for sure.

Beautiful Steelbook For Such A Spectacular Film!

Dunkirk is one of my top favorite movies of 2017, and I was excited to hear that Best Buy was releasing an exclusive steelbook. I was disappointed when they released the Logan steelbook, which was a terrible steelbook, but a great movie. This Dunkirk steelbook has great color schemes, and looks absolutely great in my collection. Highly recommend this collectible for those who loved this movie!
