Ecobee Sensors: Small Size, Big Comfor

I recently buzzed into the world of smart home tech with the Ecobee Premium Thermostat and I needed to add a couple of the SmartSensor 2-Packs in different rooms. Let's dive into why these little gadgets are the 'bee's knees' of home comfort: **Setup: Easier Than Finding Honey in a Hive** Setting up these sensors was a breeze – easier than a bee's waltz around a flower. It was so simple, I thought I might be missing a step, but no, it really was just 'plug and play'... or should I say 'plug and stay'? **Magnetic Stand: A 'Pole-sitive' Upgrade** The magnetic stand is what I call a 'pole-position' improvement from the Ecobee 3 Sensors. It sticks to its spot like a bee to honey, offering both stability and flexibility in placement. It's like magic, but without the wand and the hat! **Size: Discreetly Bee-autiful** These sensors are small enough to maintain the aesthetic buzz of any room. They're like ninja bees – there, but unobtrusively so. You won't even notice them, but they're always working hard to keep your hive comfortable. **Overall: 'Hive-ly' Addition to Any Home** In summary, the Ecobee SmartSensor 2-Pack is a fantastic way to add some smarts to your home climate control without creating a buzz about your decor. They're easy to set up, come with a handy magnetic stand, and are discreet enough to blend into any room's look. It's a small step for your home, but a giant leap for your comfort.

I like this concept. Ecobee goes a step further than the Nest Temp sensors i had. You could program the Nest Thermostat to run a schedule off their temp sensors. Ecobee has occupancy temp sensors and a follow me feature that allows the thermostat to detect the rooms your using to adjust the temperature.

I have them mounted on the wall rather than the stand alone stands and they work perfect! I’ve definitely noticed a change in my thermostat’s temperature accuracy. Love how small and simple they look when placed upon the wall, doesn’t stand out and look like an eyesore. For the price,, it definitely is worth it as it overall will simply help keep your energy bill in check !

The problem i had was that my thermostat was behind a large tv. Sometimes it will say it was hot(77-79) but the room felt cold. Now with this product i can actually tell my AC unit to use the temperature from my room instead or the thermostat.

I love these extra room sensors. Our bedroom was always warmer than the rest of the house. The sensor can tell when we are in the room and adjusts the temperature cooler when we are in. It is perfect!! Best purchase ever!!

The ecobee sensors are over priced, but they work. Saves on heating and cooling when I have them detect the temperature in only one room at night, or during the day to save on heating and cooling cost. I have eight of them scattered throughout the house.

I love my Ecobee smart thermostat and these senors take it to the next level! Not only is my thermostat able to better know how to heat and chill my home, because of these senors it now knows where the hot or cold spots are, what rooms are being used, when I'm home, and help me use less energy! They've paid for themselves in a month!

Great addition for Ecobee 4 thermostat users. Place these small remote sensors where you spend the most time. They detect when you're in range and optimize comfort for that area. My local utility offers an Eco+ plan that offers lower rates to participants who decide to economize during peak use periods. It's a great, automatic way to save money every month.

    Commanding control over Ecobee SmartThermostats

Adding room sensors to ecobee Smart Thermostats is, well, a smart thing to do. These room sensors use two readings and communicate these with an ecobee thermostat to which they are linked. These two bits of info are the ambient temperature of the room in which they are placed along with whether the room is occupied or not as a guide to determining when the HVAC system should be ON or Off. A passive infrared sensor detects occupancy by sensing motion in each room within an arc of about 120º at a distance of about 15 feet. More precisely, the sensor detects within a vertical arc of about 25º. In my home, one of these remote sensors is placed at about four feet high on shelving in my office so it easily senses when I am nearby and moving about in that room. Another is in the living room on a corner of an end table nearby my favorite chair and aimed slightly askew to see my approach as well as movement within its arc. Another is in my bedroom atop the dresser to see me enter and to sense movement when I’m in bed. I want it to see movement even while I am sleeping or trying to sleep to keep that room within the set temperature range. There is also a built-in room sensor in the wall-mounted thermostat itself, though I keep this one deactivated. Why? When there are additional room sensors it doesn’t matter what the temperature is at the thermostat. I don’t live in the hall where the thermostat lives. I want the thermostat to tell my HVAC system to heat and cool the rooms where I plop down. Without additional room sensors, the one in the thermostat will be the go-to for the system. Detecting room occupancy tells the thermostat on the wall to attempt temperature regulation in those occupied spaces regardless of the hour unless I have selected otherwise, which I have. During the times I have set as bed time, I have set the system to look only at the bedroom sensor, operating HVAC to maintain the comfortable set range in that room only. Why would I want the system to respond to temperatures sensed in any other room while I am asleep? With the above in mind, I installed ecobee room sensors to work with the ecobee I bought and installed many months ago. If you do the math, you will note that there is an additional sensor in my system beyond the two in this kit. That is because I started with ecobee SmartThermostat with Voice Control – it came with one of these in the box. The result of my efforts is most assuredly a decrease in my electric bill. Ecobee SmartSensors are currently compatible with ecobee3, ecobee3 Lite, ecobee SmartThermostat with voice control and ecobee4, with more to follow, I would guess. This is key – ONLY buy these to accompany a compatible ecobee SmartThermostat. They will not work with other brands. Simple set up, each sensor has its own (up to) five-year battery installed. Adding sensors to the system is effortless following the prompts in the iOS or Android app. Each sensor must be within radio range of the thermostat. During setup, users will be guided accordingly. Users get to name the sensors. I chose names according to the rooms in which they are located. The app provides suggestions! Each sensor “phones home” to tell my ecobee SmartThermostat which are occupied rooms as well as unoccupied rooms. In this way, the HVAC system is ON or OFF to try and achieve the system’s set temp for the occupied spaces. It ignores the spaces without people in them.. Smart, indeed! For large homes with large, busy families, just imagine the benefits these would provide. If you have an ecobee SmartThermostat, I recommend installing room sensors if your system is compatible. As an aside, other brands have thought this a smart way to go and have adopted their own remote room sensors to work with their smart thermostats. In my view, ecobee has the smartest implementation of smart thermostats with remote sensors. Two-sensor kits are $79 at Best Buy. They are part of the growing ecobee ecosystem of Alexa-controlled devices and come with the standard ecobee three-year warranty.

Great sensors for occupancy detection and temperature monitoring. I wish they could've found a way to add in their fancy air quality that exists on the thermostat, but I assume that would've been impossible with the battery capacity. Only negative is that these are pretty expensive.

The ecobee SmartSensor is a great addition to anyone monitoring the temperatures in their house with their ecobee thermostat and app. However, these little beauties take on a whole new life when paired with ecobee's Haven solution. I am now able to use my ecobee app to monitor temperatures and motion in certain rooms. This is a great idea for security as well as keeping an eye on the family dog while you are away. The setup is easy and they are ready to go out of the box. After using these, I am ready to buy more to replace my temperature only sensors.

I love my Ecobee thermostats and the features they come with. I have two thermostats, one upstairs and one downstairs. Recently I had some cooling problems with my AC unit and realized it wasn’t cooling nearly as well as it should be. These sensors are helping me verify its finally fixed. I have 3 sensors total 2 of which are the smart sensors. 1 of them is the older Ecobee sensor which came with my thermostat. These new smart sensors are very easy to pair through the app. They come with a QR code and during the pairing process you scan the code and then pull the battery tab out. The app will then pair your sensor and in my case let you choose which thermostat you want to pair it with. These sensors are very accurate and are helping me keep track of the temperature in different rooms around my house. They also have motion sensors in them as well. This will give you the option to setup smart features with your thermostat based on room occupancy. Its truly a great feature. As a bonus, these smart sensors also can be imported in SmartThings through the Ecobee smart app. This gives you the ability to use them with your smart routines. I also love the Alexa integration. I have over 100 smart devices in my home and the Ecobee ecosystem is probably one of the most used smart home devices I own.

Good integration with existing Ecobee Lite thermostat. Nice to be able to see the temperature in other key spots of my apartment, and then set schedules to use specific sensors. For example, "sleep" looks at the bedroom temperature. Easy to set up. My only wish is that you could buy them as one packs instead of being forced to buy 2.

These little devices take the ecobee thermostate from good to great! We put one in every major room and that allows us to select what rooms we want the thermostat to consider the temperature when making decisions about running equipment. Did I mention that each comfort setting can select which sensors to use? This means you can have "night time" only consider bedrooms, daytime the main areas of the house (or home office), etc. Every house I've lived (for many years) has been made more comfortable with these devices coupled with an ecobee thermostat. Note that there is no replacement available for the stands/wall mounts from ecobee. Sadly the biggest downside is the battery. Ecobee uses relatively hard-to get batteries for their remote sensors. Buy a bulk of them from an online retailer when needed. Otherwise I have zero complaints about these little things.

When used in conjunction with the Ecobee thermostat, these provide automated temperature control for your residence. The setup is quite simple through the companion app. They're rather small; almost the same size as a golf ball. It comes with a small stand and these can be placed almost anywhere. The directions state to place these sensors around 4 feet high. While not required to have, if you want a little more home automation, these definitely will help out.

Wow! These little sensors are a godsend for me. The 2nd floor of my house gets super warm in the summer and I need to sleep in a room that is 68 degrees to feel comfortable. It was impossible to get my room to that temperature since I only have one A/C unit for the whole house and since the downstairs is much cooler and that's where the ecobee thermostat is located, my upstairs would always be at like 73-75 degrees even though the downstairs clocked in at 68 degrees. I can now setup the thermostat to use a comfort setting that only looks at the sensors upstairs while I'm sleeping and it works! These sensors are super small and discreet. They do sometimes disconnect from my internet, but that's more of my home wifi problems than the sensors. I placed both of the sensors in my room and even though they are just a couple of feet apart they always seem to have 1 degree of difference between them. All in all, this gets the job done and is exactly what I need, ESPECIALLY for the summer time. I'm sure they will be great in the winter as well since my upstairs is usually a lot colder, but the cold bothers me less than the heat. I will say that the temp averaging method it uses is sometimes a bit goofy, but I really only got it in order to control the heat in my room while sleeping so it fulfills that purpose.
