Sooooo. Stop what you are doing.... if you are considering speakers for 2 channel or multi-channel use.... you must get these... lease note that in my area these are only available at Magnolia centers...so I could not hear them first... I know right?! Who would buy a speaker without hearing it.... please rest assured you will not be disappointed.... they are fantastic ...smooth mids.... nice highs and you would think I have a subwoofer hiding somewhere when you hear them .... I have recommended them to everyone I know.... do yourself a favor... trust me ! Andrew Jones made them.... look up ELAC reviews too .... don’t take just my word for it.... you’ll be very happy

Solid packaging box-in-a-box, plastic sleeves & foam pads, well done. First impressions are that they look much better than presented on line, great! wiring them in great little binding posts add to the solid feel. Not BiWire but thats not important to me I'm downsizing from 4-large speakers to two of these rather small speakers, using the same Amp (120 wpc/rms)...What bass, most importantly well done BASS!!!--Mids are quite flat and proper, and highs are very 'british' laid back but present and accurate. I have these on 30-inch stands about 2-ft from side and back walls...Astonishing imaging !!! the 3D sound presentation is remarkable considering this is a stereo amp. The freq.response sounds flat and uncolored, and although big, the low bass is tight and fast. These truly are Audiophile Quality in design, finish and excecution. I think you would need to spend a LOT more $$$ to even come close to the qualityof this package, and yes its a matched pair. ABSOLUTELY reccommend !!!

The Debut B6 is an excellent speaker for those who want a decent entry level audio setup. With a good 24" speaker stand, steel and sand filled preferred, about 30 inches clearance from back wall and paired with a good amplifier the sound quality is great. Good amount of bass and clear mid/high frequencies.

This speaker sounds similar to speakers that cost two to three times as much as these cost! Nice full clean sound. Great upgrade from my original stock sony surround speakers.

Great sound overall. The bass reaches down to low frequencies with clarity. I was considering a subwoofer, but after hearing the system with these speakers decided not to.

These speakers are near flawless. So full sounding with a range of musical genres. Handles higher volumes with smooth, accurate reproduction. Could be a bit more emphasis on the bass end, but I'm nit picking. These speakers are exceptional values and worth the cost. Fills a medium sized room. Best speakers I've owned!

    ELAC - Debut 6-1/2" Speakers - A dissapointment.

I returned the ELAC - Debut 6-1/2" 120-Watt Passive 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers within the return period. The sound was not as advertised. They really had no base and were rather shallow sounding. Could have been a mis-match with my A/V receiver. In any event, before I returned them for comparison I purchased the Polk RTi A3 6-1/2" Bookshelf speakers which were the same price (after sale discount). I found the Polk speakers have much better sound, good base, and decent performance overall. Not sure if there is a break-in period for these Polk speakers. Again, really like the sound and the beautiful appearance (cherry wood) of these Polk speakers.

Here’s what I used in my totally non-scientific testing: Receiver: Pioneer VSX-516-K (crossover set at 80) Cables and plugs: Mediabridge 14AWG cables and banana plugs Sub: Emotiva BASX S10 PlayStation 4 Pro (for games) Sony X800 4k Blu-ray player (for music and films) FILMS: Sicario, “Welcome to Juarez” segment. I choose this segment because of its use of subtle sounds and music. The soundtrack takes a backseat for most of the scene, though it needs to shine through at key moments. Most of the dialog is soft but still needs to be heard. And the gunfire, though brief, needs to be clear and have impact. Batman Begins, “Destruction of The League of Shadows” segment. I like this one because the scene starts off with soft dialog between Christian Bale and Liam Neeson - which must be clearly heard - but when the action begins, you have shouting and swords clashing and explosions. The scene ends with the building exploding and the two actors on the edge of the cliff. The Dark Knight, “Hospital Explosion” segment. This one is obvious; it’s mainly to see how the speakers react to the hospital explosion scene. Interstellar, “Entering the Wormhole” and “Visiting the Ocean Planet” segments. I love this first segment because of the way it blends silence, dialog, music, and SFX all at different times. The second segment is great because it involves more action and SFX. MUSIC: Depeche Mode, “Exciter” CD. I love this album and felt it was a good test because of the great mixture of vocals, electronic sounds (both analog and digital), acoustic guitar, and processed beats. Depeche Mode, “Ultra” CD. Another great album and it involves a different mix of guitars, vocals, strings, and electronic sounds. Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero”, CD. My favorite classical piece and I thought it was a good choice to see how the speakers handle the brass and strings at varying volumes. GAMES: Batman: Arkham City (PS4). They are heavy, and I like that. After placing them on the stands and hooking them up, I fired up the Exciter CD. While most of the album sounded loud - and a bit forceful - it didn’t sound as clear as I liked, as if the highs were taking a backseat to the lower frequencies. This basically continued with the film segments. I’d say it was probably a little less noticeable with the films though. I didn’t have any problems with dialog (though maybe not as clear/clean as I’d like) and they handled the action scenes fine. One thing I did notice was in a couple of spots I noticed just a hint of “vibration,” like some frequency was getting a bit fuzzy. This was apparent in watching Batman. I hope I’m explaining that correctly. I thought it was a bit strange since they have a frequency response of 44-20K. The “fuzziness” also occurred a couple of times while listening to Exciter. Strangely enough, when listening to “Bolero” some of the highs were a bit loud and off-putting. The soundstage didn't sound as deep or wide as I would have like. Towards the end of the piece they have had a bit more low end which helped with the drums, but it sacrificed some clarity. Overall, I think I would sum them up as loud and a bit unrefined.

Excellent sound quality from these speakers. The sound is very clean and a good step up from my Sony speakers that were bought as a set. Happy with the purchase and value from these ELAC speakers!

Anything more for bookshelf speakers is a waste

I have been looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers for my living room with the focus on music. I am at that point in life where earth shattering bass at the expense of all other frequencies is no longer the highest priority. I listen to a wide variety of music, and I wanted something that wasn't going to overpower (physical size) the room, deliver balanced sound, and try not to break the bank. My wife and I were bummed when we were thinking that we were going to have to spend something at $1k or more. After more research I kept running into DB6 reviews. Like many others I just couldn't believe that a sub $500 pair were really going to meet our desires - we were so wrong. I am driving the speakers with an HK 3490, running Google Chromecast Audio with the optical output, and using the DAC in the 3490. We gave up on the Sonos 5 (sounds great for what it is, but that is the catch - what it is), and we were so rewarded when I went back to a stereo receiver and wired speakers. My kids, teenagers mind you, were shocked at how much of a difference there was. All of a sudden for them the convenience of small size mattered less once they heard how much better "old school" was over modern convenience. Yes, you could get something better, but you are going to spend a lot of $$$. I have NO idea why Best Buy isn't pushing these inside their stores, as non in the Portland area actually carry them in the brick and mortar locations. Anyhow - these are great speakers for all music types. I have heard they get better with a tube driven amp, but I have not been able to compare as of yet.

These are $279 a pair Not $279 each. Having said that? Hey, Andrew Jones designed these Giant Killers! And Giant Killers they are. No bookshelf speaker in this price range can touch these B6's.

I bought these speakers after a ton of research. I wanted these for music and home theater and they perform very well with both. That being said they definitely benefit for the addition of an average sub. Really good speakers for the money!
