    Buyer Beware

I bought a new-construction home 7 years ago with all brand-new Electrolux appliances. Within a year, the warning alarm on my slide-in dual electric/gas range started going off at random, sometimes when I hadn't even used the appliance that day and often in the middle of the night, waking me up like a smoke alarm. The repairman determined it was a faulty heat sensor. He changed the computer component. That happened over and over again, over the course of several years, and I had to battle with Electrolux to honor the warranty over and over again. When I had to call for a 4th computer circuit board replacement I argued that my appliance was a lemon--and had been from the beginning, but Electrolux only offered to sell me a new range at a small 10% discount instead of replacing the range in good faith. By that time (year 3?), I got so frustrated that I gave up trying to get a fair resolution with Electrolux, and I now have to remember to flip the main breaker switch to shut off power to the range when I'm going out of town, for fear that my whole house will burn down while I'm away. Oh, and the range is not the only problem. The refrigerator has a computer control panel on the door that stopped working ages ago. The freezer and refrigerator temps are locked at a permanent setting, and so all the food on the top shelf of my fridge freezes. The ice maker won't dispense ice cubes, only crushed ice. My microwave stopped heating about two weeks ago. My food spun around on the turntable, but it never cooked...it was ice cold at the end of the heating cycle. I took it to a repair service and spent over $80 to find out that I needed to replace a part for $300-400 but even if I were to pay for that repair, another part I needed was no longer available. So I left the piece of junk at the repair shop for them to throw away for me. I still have a mini wine fridge and a dishwasher that will likely need replacing any day now, based on the history of all my other "luxury" Electrolux appliances. I'm already pricing out replacements (that are NOT Electrolux brand!) for my entire kitchen in anticipation of the day when the last of my original appliances sputters to its final demise, since it's not a matter of "if" but "when" they will finally die too. Electrolux does not produce top of the line appliances, and they do not stand behind their products either. Customer service definitely did not live up to my expectations of a luxury name brand, and I warn anyone who wants "gourmet" kitchen appliances to run, not walk, away from any sales person trying to recommend Electrolux to you!!!!! Don't buy Electrolux...ever!!!!
