A fun time but needs some work

Anthem's strength lies in the frantic combat system and "fly anywhere" freedom that gives it a unique feel among similar open world online shooters. Battles are challenging enough that teamwork is essential in most situations and provide enough tension and excitement especially in the early parts of the game. Less impressive are the forced downtime in between missions that are kind of a drag with boring and often non essential dialogue, although the overall story is intriguing. You will have a great 30 hours or so finishing the main story but Bioware will have their work cut out for them if they want to extend the life of this game.

The combat of Anthem carries the whole experience. I've never seen such flashy and hard hitting combat. There are literally explosions and elemental effects every seconds. There is a sense that you are tearing your way across a chaotic battlefield. The enemy AI seems competent, I was pleased with the enemy design and variety as well. The game rewards team work and pulling off combos. The game look stunning. I can't speak to the story but the combat, beautiful environments, and customization is fun like I haven't had in a game in a quite a while.

Played teh demo over the weekend. I'm pretty much sold on the game. Think of Anthem sort of like The Division and Destiny, but 10x better. There are all sorts of enemies to battle. The environment is amazing since it's not your normal walk here and there game. You can fly and the environment takes you vertically.
As many experienced, and my myself as well, I have was having issues getting into the game. This is a DEMO, so issues are expected.
Looking forward to playing the final product.

Enjoying the Beta

The VP had a headache of problems however now the open beta has addressed server issues. Teh gameplay is fun, the game is primarily PVE. Teh good, fun , different suits and loadouts, the missions are long and fun plus loot! The bad, some missions may require co op, and we all know cop op is hit or miss with randoms, no mic ring a bell. I see this game being a pick it p from a long day time to unwind. Its fun, as long as the devs keep it interesting.

Best Buy made sure to get the code out as soon as possible. So I didn't have to call them or email support. The code worked as intended, and I was even given a few extra codes to invite friends to the beta as well. The official game come out this morning, and I see the extras available in the downloads section of the ANTHEM game on the ps home screen. It's not really intuitive how you get it, and I guess that's more Sony's fault than Best Buy.

Paying for Potential

While it is a title that doesn't live up to the hype created by Bioware and EA, there is still a lot of fun to be had. One of the most important things for game play has been nailed: the controls. This game has arguably the smoothest flight controls this side of Ace Combat. Shooting is suitable for this category though the guns could use some weight. Movement transitions (walking/running to flight to hovering) are near flawless. The different classes, unlike some games, have clear differences and most suit abilities work great and create an impressive level of mayhem. Point to point game play is great, especially if you are with a group of familiars.
All is not good, however. The game is unacceptably unstable (at launch). The game has crashed more than once with one of the times causing a whole system reboot. In game loading times, though improved, are too long. Most mission types are repetitive, even for this genre. And there is no PVP for those who care.
All of that said, the game has a lot of potential. If Bioware keeps fresh, free, content coming and irons out the bugs, the purchase will have been worthwhile. At this point though, it's hard to say if they will be able to keep enough people invested when other titles (like The Division 2) are right around the corner.

The VIP and Open Demos had issues, LOTS of issues, but that was the point, wasn't it? Both did a good job of introducing us players to the world of Bastion, as well as testing key components that helped make the game better on launch day. Yeah, there were still a few hiccups because the builds weren't identical, but those were handled swiftly. Overall very happy with my purchase, and that I pre-ordered it.

I was a little skeptical after the demo, but the game is all around fun. Still a bit lost in the lore but the gameplay it great. Only negative is the load screens but a minor fault in a great game. Still some small improvements in terms of item equiping and explainging some core controller concepts, but thats not to take away from the game. When playing with friends, its even better. Highly recommend.

Brief discussion of new norm

If you haven't yet caught on to the trend in the gaming industry, games are often launched and in need of patches to update bugs that cause the game to be imperfect. There have been numerous bugs in the betas. Supposedly those bugs are getting fixed today. Even Destiny has patches to fix their similar issues. Most new games (now) have growing pains upon release. This game is no exception. As a person who did play the early content, I can say that I enjoy this enough to buy it now. If you are on the fence, my suggestion is to subscribe to the EA whatever for a month so that you can "demo" all of the content that's out now and to cancel that subscription and buy/don't buy the game. There's a large amount of content and opinions on YouTube right now, most of it appears to be negative. The PC version will be the smoothest but it also doesn't have an integrated chat like the PSN. Form your own opinion by watching some videos or subscribe to EA Origin service for a month.

The mech suits feel good, mechanics are pretty fun, it's a beautiful game, but at the same time the story is kind of cluttered, and there isn't that much to do. Objectives are kind of repetitive, and there are some issues with grinding. I feel like this game could improve with future updates, and has potential. Currently, I'd only recommend for fans of the genre.

After the horrible first weekend of the demo where there were long load times and multiple restarts, they were able to get a lot of the bugs worked out for the second weekend of the demo and it ended up being a lot of fun. Even though there was very limited content in the demo, it was still exciting to get new gear and level up your javelin.

I demoed the game pre release. It's a cool concept, and the game controls well. It has really cool guns and the characters that I played, 2 out of the 4, were fun and each had unique skills and abilities. However, the big question with this game is will it have enough content to keep us entertained. We shall find out.

Getting VIP access to a demo was great... when I could get into it. If Anthem can get ahold of its server load and smooth out the login/expedition launch sequences, then it'll be a bang-up game. The actual gameplay and combat is satisfying and will likely keep me coming back for more.

So far so good. The game has some bugs that need to be worked out. The gameplay is really smooth and the combat is fantastic. The flight system could use some work. I don't like flying around with my mouse. Overall shaping up to be a really good game especially with some friends.

Anthem is a beautiful game with good mechanics. The shooting isn’t as crisp as destiny, but it’s still a good experience (like Gears of War, third person). The missions are fun, but it’s lacking that extra ‘stuff’. Still a great time with friends though.

The demo was a lot of fun when it worked. However, it crashed constantly and I got bored many times. When the game was working, the mechanics were smooth and the game was a blast. I hope the final release with will because the fan be is a lot of fun!

Anthem's gameplay loop is super fun and offers the best story for a game of this genre. With free dlc drops and great developer transparency, this game's future looks pretty bright, even in spite of some of its early technical issues.

The preorder bonus demo was reportedly filled with connection problems, but it worked perfectly well for me, and excited me about getting the game. My only complaint was figuring out how to access the demo was unnecessarily difficult.

This game is reminiscent of the Destiny series, and plays like the Mass Effect series. Beautiful graphics. Not a very long game, and at times won't connect to a server. There are plans for free DLC to expand the game at a later date.

This game is hard to compare to any game, it is similar to Destiny, Titanfall, The Division, and other games. That is great though as it is nice to get a game that is different from every other game. Hopefully EA does well this time.
