Decent movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sci-Fi is my favorite genre. That said, it's rare to find a good Sci-Fi movie or TV show (just watch the Sci-Fi channel for proof. OK in fairness, I haven't watched it in over a decade, but maybe that just makes my point). This movie was above average I'd say. The plot felt perhaps a bit too overtly political for me, but these days, perhaps that's hard to avoid. The effects were good, if not really memorable. The space station was nicely done.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An interesting, but socially heavy handed morality tale disguised as a sci-fi movie. Once I turned off my higher brain commentary and political criticisms, I enjoyed the film thoroughly. I prefer films that craft their own world, aesthetic, and mythos. The dystopian/broken/scorched earth setting of this film is visually interesting and impactful to experience. There is an interesting mix of action and science fiction elements to keep you interested. In short, it's worth adding to your collection. A fun diversion on a winter night with a beer and a bowl a popcorn.

Good but not great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worth watching. Albeit, a bit boring. Jodie Foster acts as if she didn't want to be part of this film.

Amazing!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This film is a great showcase of the UHD format. The visuals and sound were both amazing. There's a real sense of directionality in the soundstage and the fact that they used miniatures for some of the shots of Elysium instead of CGI really contributes to it looking more life-like. The scene with the three ships trying to get to Elysium at the beginning in particular was amazing. The picture is very sharp and there's such a big contrast between the beauty of Elysium and the squalor on Earth. This is a must-own for UHD enthusiasts.

Grade B but Good Sci-Fi
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A good grade B sci-fi endeavor with a committed cast, eye-popping SFX and interesting sets that puts it clearly in the escapism category. Sharlto Copely gives a performance that compliments his outing in the same director's District 9. The UHD image is outstanding and the soundscape is enveloping when called for.

The rich stepping on the backs of the poor
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A futuristic tale of where the Earth is barely livable, polluted and over populated. The rich live high above in a huge space station, where they have control of food, clean water and advanced medicine capable of healing any illness even the ravages of aging. Jody Foster plays a cold heartless member of this elite class and determined that none of the poor contaminate it. Matt Damon is a average poor man in Los Angeles doing what he has to just to survive, working like a slave for this elite class. When his life is threatened he is determined to get to the space station Elisium to get the medical treatment he needs to survive. Lots of action, great visuals and stellar performances by the cast. Excellent entertainment.

dark adventure, intense action
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the difference between the lives of the rich and the poor are extreme. The rich literally in the clouds, with Jodie Foster a very cold and controlling gov't secretary. Earth is ruined, barely fit for life.Gangs rule. The need for decent medical care leads Damon to take on an incredible mission, requiring sacrifices as extreme surgeries are necessary to even the odds a bit. Poignant flashbacks to childhood reveal his motives for taking the mission. Lots of action!

Impressive upgrade from the blu ray.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I continue to like this movie more and more as I watch it again and again. It's got such great world building. I just like looking at it. Some of the most realistic visual effects I have ever seen. The 4k transfer is also one the best I have ever seen. This is a huge upgrade from the 1080 blu ray. I absolutely recommend it.

Great Restoration 4K Blompkamp Trilogy is Complete
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arguably the best in the District 9-Elysium-Charlie Trilogy, this 4K restoration is on point. It doesn’t have Dolby Vision which is disappointing, but it does have Atmos True HD which is great. The HDR doesn’t suffer though, so maybe it didn’t need Dolby Vision. If you’re a Blompkamp fan, this needs to be on your shelf!

Sci Fi movie of 2013
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went to theater and fell in love with this movie. After seeing District 9 and unlike most ppl I know loving every minute of it, I had high hopes for next movie from Neil Blomkamp. Plot is solid enough, Damon and Foster as stars we know and love and Charlto is barely recognizable. I have to say after playing Wickus I didn't think he could could pull off role of unstable mercenary but he did and is great! The only true way of watching amazing sci fi movie like this is blu ray. Anything less won't do the movie justice. Bonus features are there and provide about an hour of interesting stuff (more or less, watched most, but not all of them), but nothing to hold your breath over;-)

Good Underdog Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a movie where you have to root for the underdog. Matt Damon plays the part of a guy who has been in trouble before, but is trying to do right. He gets put in an impossible situation that causes him to make some decisions he would not make. Not the best movie I have ever seen but good movie. Forget what you may have heard about the politics of the movie. This is just a normal Hollywood underdog movie. I recommend it.

Could have been better
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay film with a very bad ending. Blu-ray upscales to 4k well.

Creative, but flawed ...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Neil Blomkamp films have a very distinct look and feel. They exist in worlds that feel real, but rundown - filled with grunge and urban sprawl. They usually revolve around some kind of political message. District 9 was about apartheid, Elysium is about immigration reform. This time, however, the analogy doesn't really hold-up. The dialog is on-the-nose and the film tells you how you should feel, rather than the audience being allowed to develop those feelings themselves. This is probably due to the fact that, unlike apartheid, immigration reform isn't a black-and-white issue. It's complicated. Unfortunately, the characters are not. Elysium people are snobish and evil and the poor masses on Earth are humble and meek. The movie is great to look at, though. Blomkamp certainly has a visual and aesthetic flair. His world building abilities are to be admired. Blu-ray looks great and sounds great, as any newer movie will on this format.

Meh!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie looks great, it had the potential to be a great movie but it just fell short! With a powerful cast of actors and all around great performance, the story line and script was just lacking! Not bad for $10 but I don't think I'll be watching it again!

Decent movie, not amazing though
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not a bad idea for what could happen when the rich get so far beyond everyone else, but Jody Foster falls short on being a ruthless ladder climber. The movie has to twist around a good amount to make Damon get to where he does in the end, too. Cinematography is quite good, though, gives a gritty, dirty, down to earth feel like in District 9. I don't get movies for the extras, so no review of those. Recommended for any real SciFi fans.

Cyborg Matt Damon Strikes Back!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Matt Damon cyborgs up and flies into space to save Earth from the tyranny of the 1%. It's a fun action romp full of spectacle and special effects steeped in a strong social commentary about today's 1% focused society. The social commentary might be too in-your-face for some, but if you can look past it or appreciate it you are left with a movie with some great acting and a lot of awesome action scenes.

Good Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only purchased because it was on sell and matt damon make some good action movies. The story is pretty straight forward and easy to follow. If you own a 3D tv it will probably resonate a little better in my opinion. Not his best action flick, but it was pretty enjoyable. Just wished they would've made a 3d version, i think because of the effects it woul've been excellent. Hope this review helps someone.

Great movie that pops in 4KUltraHD
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really liked this movie to begin with. I think it is solid all the way through. What I love about the 4K UltraHD version is every part of the picture and the audio explodes as if I were in the theatre. If you like action movies that also have a great story woven thru the action from beginning to end, this is for you. If you have even a basic system capable of displaying 4kUltraHD and even a basic sound system, it is icing on the cake.
