You play as 103,683rd, a warrior ant tasked by your Queen to protect and expand the colony. From strategic RTS battles that demand you show brain over brawn, night-time stealth missions to investigate your insectoid opponents capabilities or some light platforming, exploring the wonders of this miniature world, there’s always something new to do in this expansive environment as you forge alliances with other species to continue the expansion and survival of your empire. With a 20 hour story campaign based on the book by Bernard Werber, there’s a surprising mix of gameplay styles here, set in ever changing seasons of this hunk of rock that we call home. Combat itself has an easy to understand rock/paper/scissor format in the main, ensuring that you know just what you’ll need and where you’ll need it at a glance. Whilst you’ll need to play the part of warlord and overseer, there’s a need to get very legs-on too. Once the necessary upgrade has been crafted in a nest, you’ll be choosing from a variety of pheromones, each offering buffs to your units that require you to get out there among the masses to activate. Shields for your comrades, a fear pheromone to spread throughout your enemies or just a faster reinforcement rate can make all of the difference to the tide of war. Just don’t get too caught up in the moment and be swarmed by termites and other black ants

I had no idea this was an RTS, but the 3rd person perspective allowed me to jump in with no prior experience and really get the hang of it. The graphics are top notch and I can’t wait to build the biggest empire the insect world has ever seen. It’s not too challenging and the PTSD flashbacks are interesting, experienced as an ant. I did not know ants could be in war. And the dialogue reminds me a lot of the movie 1917. This is an Oscar movie game, but told from the point of view of an ant. The loading screens are stolen directly from the Battlefield franchise.

So a Ps5 Pro enhanced game without any “Pro” specific settings (as of this writing). Odd. No HDR too? On a Pro enhanced title? Looks good but Pro support doesn’t meet (arguably) assumed expectations. Maybe the update isn’t live yet? Poor launch by Sony. Good game until you hit missions that require a ridiculous YouTube guide to complete. Wait for a sale if interested. Kindly support physical media.
