I was keen to see this film months before it arrived as I am a fan of the characters and situations that O.S.Card created in the "Enderverse." The movie does a decent job of getting the A-plot thread across to the viewer, but the B-plot relating to Ender's siblings is ignored. The most important character in the later stories of the series, although minor in this book, (Bean) has about 3 lines of dialog and in some places is substituted for another really relevant character who IS already in the movie.
Because the producers wanted a single actor to play the title character, the story is compressed from 5 years to a matter of months. Finally, when the twist comes at the end, many watchers will say "so what, I saw that coming," while readers of the book will know that it is really not about the destination at all, but the journey.
Ender's Games makes a pretty good movie, but it would have made a much better TV miniseries.

After waiting 21 years for this movie to be released, I was very excited to finally watch my favorite book come to life on the big screen. While I was not disappointed, it could have been better. The actors are all older than the characters in the book, but this is okay. The casting was great and many of the actors looked exactly how I had pictured the characters when I read the book.
My only complaint is that the movie was short and feels rushed. They did not convey the amount of turmoil that Ender went through or his absolute isolation at the hands of his superiors and his utter desperation toward the end of the story.
I would definitely recommend watching this one, just don't expect the depth that the book has.

Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time. I've read it at least a dozen times and will likely read it a dozen more in the course of my life.
When the film was announced, I was stoked. The casting is spot on too. Harrison Ford returns to the science fiction genre as Colonel Graff, Hailee Steinfeld as Petra and Asa Butterfield as the protagonist Ender Wiggin.
I was pleased to see the movie didn't pull it's punches with the violence that is necessary to tell the story and get the point across of the horrors of war. Especially since the story involved violence done by and too children.
The film isn't perfect, it isn't everything it could have been, but it was a really solid effort. The special effects are incredible and on blu ray the film's picture and sound are flawless.

Movie: I've been a fan of the Ender's Game books since 1996, when my cousin gifted me the first novel. Though I prefer the background and character perspectives one can get by reading the novel more, the film version was still beautifully done. I was happy to add this 2-disc set to my personal film collection.
Disc set: This 2-disc set is perfect for the indecisive person (like me). Do I want the DVD? The Blu-ray? A digital copy (Ultraviolet)? No need to decide -- this set comes with all three.
Considering the epic/cult following of the Ender saga, I wouldn't have minded having more extras. Interviews with the author, or something about the history of the Ender books, etc. This one comes with audio commentary, a making-of featurette, a featurette about the mind game the Battle School students play, and extended/deleted scenes. However, I can't really complain about everything this comes with. All in all, I'd buy it again.

The ender's game movie i felt was very true to the books which was something they usually don't get correct. While doing so they made this reader/watcher very happy. The story was kinda dark considering what they did to kids at such an early age. In addition to that ender commits an act that even most adults would find hard which shows a loss of innocence for him at again a very low age. The only disappointing factor to it was it just did not show a lot of the battle school wars between the kids which helped ender's thoughts to become a little more clear and also showed the evolution of his breakdown. Speaking of which in the movie they did not really give his breakdown much of a screen time shot which i can understand but takes away from his evolution.

on the surface it's a terrible space movie but underneath it has a lot to offer...the most profound concept to me was the main character being a kid who lacks physical strength yet is able to defeat other kids who bully him using intellect. ender then shows us that there exists a similar parallel in adult situations as well - ultimately proposing that it may be more beneficial to apply intellect before allowing fear to lead us into unnecessary conflicts

Ender's Game was a decent adaptation from the book series, although there were elements from the book that could not have been adapted thoroughly in a 2 hour movie, such as the elapsing of time and maturation of its central characters. I did not feel that the movie pacing was rushed, but it was not afforded the luxury of a third hour dedicated to character development and background that it needed. There will be no sequel as it would be untenable to create a story that bridged this plot into the next volumes of the book. If you go into this movie with expectations of it being a coming of age story arc, you probably won't be disappointed. However, you should not expect very much more than that.
