    The book was better...

The book was much, much better. I understand they needed to cut a lot out due to time constraints, but the movie could have been at least another half an hour longer and still be a reasonable length. They could have used that time to tell a little more of the story, and do a little more development of the Peter and Valentine characters. Other than the box office disappointment, they set themselves up for not being able to make a sequel by not developing the necessary characters and telling more of the important parts of the story. However, the special effects and cinematography were completely amazing. The Battle Room scenes were beyond what I could have ever imagined.

Having seen this as a blu-ray, i was hoping to see improvements, but it was like an entirely different movie! The 4K transfer is, of course, very impressive, but what really cinched the deal for me was the HDR makes the images look nearly 3 dimensional due to the extra shadow and highlight detail and very "theatrical feeling" in the viewing experience.

I have been a fan of the Ender's series novels for some time and unfortunately this movie failed to deliver close to the same feeling you get while reading the book, this because they rushed the story in the movie. We are meant to share in Ender's frustrations and successes but this happened only once for me throughout the movie. Nonetheless, it deserves at least the four stars I gave because as a movie it is pretty entertaining. Also, the "world of Ender" was adapted pretty well, especially the battle room. All in all it is worth purchasing and is relatively family friendly. If you have not read the Ender Novels you will enjoy this movie quite a bit.

As a fan of the books, I had been waiting for a long time for Ender's Game to be brought to the big screen. I knew the would have to change some things and to be honest I was expecting a wreck, but I was happily surprised. EG deals with very adult subject matters and to have children in this sort of situation can be very tricky. But that's what I lo e about it. The movie takes it's time to develop the characters and that's what you want. There is spectacle but not in a mind blowing way. At least not until the climax of the film. I consider EG a sci-fi drama with great visuals and thought provoking story. I really like this film.

Ender's Game is a great book (and series) that tells a very complex story about complex characters. This movie captures that story, but like any movie adaptation of a great book, it inevitably falls short in some ways. If you liked the book, you should see all of the major plot lines covered and feel that it was a faithful (if incomplete) retelling of the story. If you've never read the book, some things may be a little confusing, but keeping you guessing is what this story is intended to do! As a fan of the series, I don't expect sequels to be made, but I enjoyed this movie and hope it brings more fans to the series.

Very Good Movie...Not Just For Kids.

A suprisingly good movie that doesn't dumb-down its subject matter just because it was marketed as a young-adult sci-fi epic. It has some very adult themes like the manipulation of children for the "greater good", the dangers of paranoid xenophobia, and genocide. None of which are glossed over or taken too lightly. Both the picutre and sound on the Blu-Ray are excellent...colors are vibrant when they need to be and lent a nice contrast to some of the stark gray sets. those with a surround sound setup are in for a real treat. The soundfield is immersive and there are scenes where one is totally enveloped in sound...but (if your setup is properly calibrated) dialog never gets drowned out in the mix. A great presentation of a very good movie.

I read Ender's Game when it was originally released as a short story, and again when it was expanded into a novel. It's been a long wait to see it brought to film, and visually it's been worth the wait. It was easy to forget our reality and just get into the story of a time and place that could previously only be imagined. Worth a watch. Glad I added it to my collection. SPOILER ALERT: The problem, if that is what to call it, is the story is based on the main character, and the viewer, being unaware that his war games are being translated into actual warfare, but if you have read the story, you know this all along and the impact is lost when it is revealed. The lessening of impact was unavoidable, but preferable to a weaker ending.

I know that not everything from the book can be put into a movie but a great job selecting what stayed and what went. They left in enough to explain the relationship between siblings and training mates. They also did a great job hiding the adults objectives til the very end. There were several scenes where the kids acting was great and Harrison Ford was a great choice. You could feel the kids' joy when they persevered over challenges put before them and then see joy dashed when there achivements were not validated by those in charge or the truth was revealed. This is a great abridged version of the book. One last note: Ben Kingsley does a terrible Maori accent but it is too distracting to his character or storyline.

I really liked the Ender’s Game movie. It wasn’t perfect though. It should have been 2 movies adapting Ender’s Game, Ender’s Shadow, and elements of the comic books Recruiting Valentine and The League War. It would have fleshed out the other characters and allowed the story to breathe instead of packing it all together and throwing off the pacing. Basically the movie was great but not awesome. Sadly there probably won’t be a sequel unless somehow it becomes extremely successful on DVD. Besides the way it was adapted everything else (acting, directing, etc) was really good.

We saw this in the theaters when it came out and we liked it. My family is a big fan of scifi films and this did not disappoint. Harry Potter in space as we called it. The fate of the world in the hands of highly intelligent and skilled kids leading earth's armies into battle against an alien species here to exterminate us all. Or do they have other intentions? When the DVD came out we had to buy it. We even watch it in the car with the family. But maybe they could have added more special features and extras to make it a better value. Other than that, good buy.

OK Movie.... But the book is way better

The movie does a good job telling the story of Ender Wiggin but they leave out some vital and very significant information that relates to what his siblings are doing on Earth while he is in battle school. I understand that every detail from the book can't fit within time constraints of a movie but I think that the needed information could have been spread throughout the movie and would have only extended the overall length 10 to 15 min. Besides the info about his siblings the movie also seems to portray a deeper and different relationship between Ender and Petra than the book describes. The only other issues I have are that the movie doesn't go into as much detail about Bean's arrival and the armies are significantly smaller in the movie (which again I understand why) than in the book. In the book, armies are 40 soldiers plus commander but the movie depicts it with less then 20. If the movie could have been on a slightly bigger scale with a slightly bigger budget I think it could have pulled off the transition from book to movie a lot better but considering what they had to work with, I'd say that if someone just sees the movie they will still get the main story about Ender and his war but if you'd like to know more about the futuristic society that they live in and if you'd like to know what his siblings have done that will change the world grab a copy of the book. If you liked this movie/book, there are 3 more that focus on Ender and also a subseries of around 8-10 more books that detail the lives of the other battle schoolers as well as Ender's siblings. A few of these go into the details of what happens on Earth after the Formics(buggers) are (or at least are thought) to have been destroyed.

I think my only complaint about this movie is based on my adoration of violence, horrific circumstances and adversity needed for the really great satisfaction of triumph. The movie is enjoyable, but by the time it's over, if you're like me, you will want the realization of loss to be more profound, the devastation of what has actually happen to resonate more. If the final 15 minutes of the movie had more emotional weight, more care taken to hammer home the ultimate realization of what occurred, the entire movie would have felt altogether greater.

Some may view this film as simplistic and predictable. It can be interpreted as a case study of stereotypical behavior by people placed in certain situations with certain responsibilities. But it becomes really intriguing when you explore the "why" or the reason that drives their behavior. Not having read the book it probably made it more fun for me to contemplate the characters' motivations and thoughts that drove their behaviors. Fun if viewed solely for the story and the great acting, immensely satisfying if viewed as a chess game.

Read the book(s) growing up and thought this was going to be a brutal watering down of the subject matter...and while yes it was watered down...it was done tastefully. While very much aimed at that tween audience, the movie's moral issues are presented in a very adult fashion. Couple the good pacing and brilliant effects work, you have a very entertaining movie. It defied my expectations and found myself very much liking the movie. If you like sci-fi and can deal with a child-centric cast, give this a watch.

    Finally They made a Movie

I love the Ender series by Orson Scott Card! I have been waiting about 10 years for a movie to be made. They did the book justice in my opinion. Card said he would never let Hollywood turn this book into a teen date movie and he succeeded! When a book that has a lot of psychological content gets made into a movie, a lot can be lost. This movie did a pretty good job of keeping the viewer inside Enders mind. Of course some stuff was left out, but over all it was a good job. The biggest flaw in the movie is that they left out (or did not emphasis enough) what the book had to say about the "Buggers" reasons for starting the war in the first place.

It's a story of a group of kids being raised, conditioned and trained to be soldiers in a war against an alien race wanting to destroy the human race. This story brings to screen things, that when it was written, were not yet invented. Today those things are a now a part of our everyday lives. Had this movie come out 15 or even 10 years ago, it would have shown us things we could only imagine. Now it shows them using state of the art technology. Given all of these things, it is still a very entertaining movie.

For those who love Orson Scott Card's novel, this film does a great job of bringing a great story to life. As with most film adaptations of books, material from the source was cut, including the intellectual debate produced by Ender's siblings and much of the military strategy developed in the Battle School. But what's left is still a fun and exciting movie that brings Ender's universe to life. Die hards of the book may be left disappointed, but Ender's Game is such a fun and thrilling movie, it's hard not to love it.

Futuristic aliens threaten Earth and the answer to survival may depend on more on the children than the adults. Video gamers may contain the ultimate answer and skills to finally destroy the aliens. Harrison Ford heads this Sci-Fi plot of young intuition , problem solving skills that may be in the hands of a young boy who may save all mankind.Great action and CGI special effects and character development. I bought it in 4K Ultra HDR version , looked great.
