One of my favorites from the 90's. Great performances especially Gene Hackman. The Blu-ray quality is slightly above average.

At the price point, I couldn’t argue with the blu ray version of a good movie.

An action take on The Conversation. Smith and Hackman work well together. Even if Hackman is a bit of a Deus Ex Machina. Lots of Oscar winners in the cast, and lots of appearances by comedic actors in a more dramatic role.

    A genuinely thought-provoking techno-thriller

Enemy of the State was made in the late 90's. Nonetheless, ten years later it hasn't lost any of its significance. It's the story of Robert Dean (Will Smith), a big-shot lawyer who finds himself in the midst of a government manhunt when a former friend runs into him at a store while running from NSA agents and places a tape in Dean's bag, unbeknownst to Dean. As it turns out, the tape contains evidence that Reynolds, a top member of the NSA, killed a congressman who stood in the way of a bill that would allow the government greater power to track civilian communications. Dean is forced to go one the run, but the enemy is behind his every step, because of how overwhelming the governement's ability to track Dean's every communications is. Dean is eventually helped by the mysterious Brill (Gene Hackman, terrific as always), a former government communications expert who now lives as a sort of techno hermit and is none too happy to get dragged into Dean's mess. This can easily be viewed simply as a fun bit of entertainment. Director Tony Scott keeps the pace of the film more-or-less breakneck without losing control of it at any point, and the result is edge-of-your-seat entertainment (a severely overused phrase that actually fits in this case). Also, the film is a surprisingly interesting critique on the extent to which communications technology has overtaken our lives and how in some ways, it has made us slave to our own advances. Luckily, the film doesn't drown itself in an attempt to become a message film, and as entertainment, this remains top-notch.

Will Smith should be a postman... he delivers 24/7

Enemy of the State is a great thriller w lots of action and intriguing sub-plots... Will Smith is terrific at portraying a man put into a situation that is beyond his control without reason...the movie is realistic in giving a "what would you do" feeling if u were in Smith's position... The movie also incorporates Smith humor and adds a lighter touch to avoid too dark a theme... Gene Hackman is outstanding as playing the 'ace in the deck of cards" and is fun to watch with Smith... Regina King is great at playing the worried and at times less than understanding and suspicious wife and the kid that plays Smith's son is a cute kid and delivers a nice performance... this is one of my favorite movies!!

While this Blu-ray is missing the extended cut of the film that can be found on the Special Edition DVD, I still think that this is a great purchase for anyone that was a fan of the film. The picture quality is nothing short of stunning and the 5.1 PCM audio track is superb. You will not be disappointed with this one.

Post 9/11 or did they know

If you ever seen this movie, watch it again. At the beginning while Regina King's character is looking at the news about a report on an agency to watch other people and what they are doing, the new anchor makes stardling reference to planes flying into buildings. Post 9/11 attacks, did Hollywood know about terrorist plans? Back to the review...this is a very intense movie that not like your usually Will Smith movie, not that much CGI.
