The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is an outstanding all-in-one printer for business and home office use. It delivers incredibly fast and sharp prints, supports duplex printing and scanning, and its ink tank system lasts much longer than traditional cartridges—saving both time and money. The wireless setup is seamless, and the touchscreen makes navigation simple. It's a bit of an investment, but the performance and ink efficiency are worth it.

Easy set up. The ink bottles are shaped so you can't possibly put the wrong ink in a different color chamber. Quality of printing is perfect. Love not spending money on cartridges every other month.

Easy Setup! Many Features!

The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 is a work horse! The setup was delightfully easy. In the box you'll find the "start here" pamphlet in both English and French, warranty info, a software disc, 2 bottles of each color ink (black, magenta, cyan, and yellow), the power cord, and of course the printer. Following the setup guide was very easy and I found it to be painless. In total, it took about 20 minutes to get it up and running. The printer will hold almost all the ink that's included and adding the bottles was simple and mess free. I do not have a disc drive on my laptop, so I downloaded the software from the link provided in the setup guide.
The printer has 3 different areas to print from. Cassettes 1 and 2 that are in the front and another spot on the back/top. The printer can be set up to specifically print different paper sizes and types for each area to print from. Cassette 2 is for standard letter 8.5 x 11 inch plain white paper but other standard sizes work there too. You'll see more options for cassette 1. I did find that if your print settings on your phone or computer do not match what you have set on the printer for size and paper type, the printer will give you an error. I found it to be a little tricky when trying to print different paper sizes. Trial and error got me through and I was able to print what I wanted.
Making copies and scanning are very simple. There is a tray on the top of the printer and you put the pages you want copied facing up and press copy on the machine. There you will find all the settings to change it from black and white to color, paper settings, if you want it 2-sided, and many other settings. For scanning to print, you put your document on the scanner and press "copy". You can also scan and send to your email, cloud, a memory device, WSD, computer, or Network folder/FTP. The software came with a program to upload your documents to your computer and I will absolutely be using that feature to upload client contracts.
This printer is extremely user friendly and would be great for anyone that has a lot of printing or copying to do. It holds a lot of paper and prints very fast! It has fax but I was unable to test that feature. The ink tanks make these printers the best in my opinion. I will never go back to ink cartridges again! I would definitely recommend this printer to anyone in need of an all-in-one printer!
This is a review for the Epson EcoTank Pro ET-5850 Supertank Printer that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.

I have been using this printer for about 4 days now and have to say it is finally an answer to my home/office needs. Over the years I have owned many printers, while trying to find one that "does it all" at printing, scanning and faxing without needing alot of maintenance. From what I gather here, I have finally found the printer of my dreams. I'm really floored how easy setup was right out the box. The ink prints beautifully every single time. It's so easy my younger grandchildren know how to use it with ease.

Bought this for my wife's small business office and just finished setting it up. I've bought and set up a lot of printers over the years and, admittedly, many of them have become very simple to set up. But this ET-5850 is the simplest I've ever come across.
I was fascinated and honestly a bit nervous about the EcoTank concept. The idea of dumping pigment into the printer felt like a potentially messy undertaking. But trust me on this: They've really thought it through, engineered it well, and made it just stupid easy. The pigment bottle nozzles are keyed to where you can't accidentally put the wrong color in the wrong tank. There was no dripping or spilling, and it honestly looked like you would have to really make a conscious effort to do either. The nozzles fit nice and snugly, and when you have them seated all the way then they begin transferring their contents into the tank. It doesn't feel like they could have made this work any better or easier than they did. I say all that because that was the part I was most hesitant about when ordering this printer - and now I know it's just a non-factor.
The rest of the setup was just as easy. I think I was in for about 45 minutes from cutting the tape on the Epson box to mission accomplished, everything works and printing and scanning both tested from my wife's laptop.
Also, I know some of the reviewers felt like the physical size of the 5850 was large. I'm the other way. I expected it to much larger and was impressed by its relatively compact footprint considering it is intended for small business use.
FWIW: I paid full price for this thing. I wasn't given anything in exchange for my review. And I don't even know anybody who works for Epson or any related company that might have an interest in a positive review. Just wanted to share my great experience with this product so far.

A Powerful All-In-One That Saves Big on Ink

In day-to-day use, the printer is fast and reliable. Text documents come out crisp and sharp, and two-sided printing is nearly as fast as single-sided runs. The automatic document feeder (ADF) and duplex scanning make handling multi-page documents much easier.
It’s a bit large — make sure you have the desk or counter space to accommodate it.
Also, while photo and color graphics look good, the color accuracy is decent but not perfect. Some hues (especially blues) can shift a bit.
Pros:
Very low operating cost thanks to the refillable ink tanks
Fast print, scan, and copy performance
Full-featured (print, scan, copy, fax) with duplex capabilities
Multiple connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB)
Cons:
Large footprint — needs good space
High upfront cost
Color accuracy is good, but not perfect for professional photo work
Scanning software can over-process images (lose background lines or fine detail)
Overall, if your workflow involves a lot of printing, scanning, or document processing, the ET-5850 is a great choice. You’ll see savings over time, and it handles heavy usage

I’m absolutely delighted with this inkjet printer. From the moment I set it up, everything has been smooth and effortless — the print quality is crisp and vibrant, the speed is impressive, and even the noise level is pleasantly low. It’s rare to find a printer that checks all the boxes, but this one truly does. Highly recommended!

Finally! A printer that works, correctly, right out of the box, the first time and consistently each time thereafter, and without removing and reinstalling the software, or restarting the unit regularly.
Although we needed a support call, it was a minor issue -- we missed one of the many tapes that kept it safe in transit. And we misunderstood the picture on the move/secure "handle" on the print head. Our problem, not theirs.
The software actually works: print, scan, and fax. (You might know what I am referring to if you have a printer by a certain other company).
And imagine: if one color ink runs out, the printer still prints in black! And just refill that one color reservoir and you're good to go again.
It would be nice to have a single "dashboard" app rather than multiple single-task apps, but the minor convenience is easily overshadowed by the unit's overall efficiency. Thank you, Epson.

It's a pretty big beast. That said, it is a very good piece of hardware. The print quality is excellent and the color rendition is really good, matching the original very well. Printing is fast. The receiving tray popping out by itself is really neat! Scanning is a little slower, but not annoyingly so. The tanks fill very easily. Initial tank fill and priming of the printer is a bit cumbersome, so read the directions. Overall I am very pleased with this printer.

Pros: The printer is very fast, the color is good, and it got the heavy job done that we needed it for.
Cons: We could not use tray #2 because it was spilling little splotches of black ink onto our printed documents. We are not sure why. The set up directions were not clear how high to fill the ink into the tank. We though maybe we had filled it too high but this was not happening with any other colors or the other tray!
Overall: We really liked the printer after trying 3 other printers before this one because we just kept using the first paper tray that worked fine.
(At the time of this review we had the printer for two weeks. We did take the printer back to Best Buy yesterday on day 14 due to not being able to use the 2nd tray.)
***We will consider purchasing this again once we have a big job to print since it was primarily a great printer.

My wife runs math tutoring service and she needed a good printer to print the homework for her students. The goal was to get a reliable printer and save money on suplies like inc cartriges which are expensive for most of the printers but not with this model. It has a great solution to save money on inc cartriges which will last you long time. It is easy to use, I followed simple instructions to set up my new printer fast. So far no issues and we are very happy with this printer purchase.

Epson ET-5850

This is the best inkjet printer that Epson makes for the money. You can't go wrong with this printer. The text is sharp, and the copies print fast. I have owned 12 inkjet printers and I have learned two things to keep them printing. First, print several copies every day to keep the nozzles from drying up. Second, since this is an EcoTank printer, keep the ink above the lowest level to prevent air from getting into the print head. Printers that have inkjet cartridges get air into the system every time you have to add a new cartridge causing print problems and that is one of the reasons one has to clean the print heads. I have also owned the Epson ET-5880 but had to return it after 10 months after a failed firmware update. The machine failed to turn off and back on after the update. This was also an excellent printer but not available when I needed a new printer. While waiting on availability for the ET-5880 or ET-5850, I purchased the ET-4850. For $250.00 more one can have the ET-5850 which is far superior to the ET-4850. The ET-5850 and ET-5880 come with 8 bottles of ink and the ET-4850 has only 4 bottles. The print on the ET-4850 is light and the LCD screen is much smaller compared to the ET-5850 or ET-5880. I have the ET-5850 and the ET-4850 setup as network printers so everyone in our house can print to them anytime from any device. Just make sure you download and install the drivers for the printers before you connect via Wi-Fi, USB cable, or Ethernet cable. After you get your printer setup and printing do yourself a favor and order a replacement ink maintenance box. The number of copies you get before you have to replace the box depends on how you use your printer. Every time you turn the machine off and on and clean the print heads you waste ink, and ink is dumped into the ink maintenance box. So, do yourself a favor print every day and leave your printer on.

I've had this printer for about a month now. It was so easy to install. I love the features (duplex printing) and especially that it doesn't use ink cartridges. It's very easy to fill the ink tanks from the ink bottles. My wife has the Epson 4850.
