This is far and away the easiest to use, most effortless printer I have ever owned, and an overall really solid option for a home printer! While the plastic build quality (with a few parts feeling flimsy) is definitely not a highlight of the unit (which really only impacts the printer when, say, picking it up and moving it) the printer honestly makes up for it in it's convenience, ease of use and, honestly, some of the best printing quality I've ever seen, even over much higher end/more expensive printers. The setup process for the printer is done through the Epson Smart Panel app, and guides you through a beautifully easy to follow setup process and alignment configuring. This setup process also allows you to then print off your phone VERY easily and connect other devices, such as a pc or laptop, as well! The wifi connectivity has definitely proven to be the best part of the printer (besides the print quality of course). The interface for the printer is not touch screen like other printers, but I'd argue its simplicity with just copy, scan and settings buttons in the UI make it okay; it's ridiculously easy to use even still! The printer also has replaceable ink cartridges, a scanner/copier, and a resizable paper tray for printing different sized prints - it really does exactly what anyone needing a printer will need it to do, and extremely well for that matter!

This Epson XP-4200 Expression Home Printer, Copier, and Scanner is full of great features for home or school use. Setup was super simple. I used it with my iPhone 12 Mini, my iPad Pro 11, and my sons Android phone. I connected it to WiFi, and directly to my phone via wireless connection. All were super easy to do. Printing, copying and scanning. It prints pretty fast for an inkjet printer. The speed is dependent upon several factors. The print quality, type of paper, whether you are in regular or quiet mode, and what you are printing. The scanner is a flatbed scanner that also doubles as the copier. The scan and copy quality are fantastic. The print quality is pretty good, but even after running all of the alignments and calibrations, the ink seemed to bleed onto the bottom edge of the paper, but only when I used presentation paper. When I used regular inkjet bright white paper, it was great. The second thing I printed on the premium presentation paper was a stationary page with lines, using the Epson Creative Print App that you can download for free. The main app, that I should have mentioned first, is the Epson SmartPanel App. This app helps you get set up, print photos, and so much more. I was able to do everything I wanted to do from my iPhone 12 Mini, but did use it with other things to make sure it worked great with all of the devices. Two sided printing is easy and saves paper! I love that feature. Ink The ink cartridges are individual, so you get Black, Cyan, Yellow and Magenta. You don’t have to replace them all at once, just the ones you need. The Black comes in a larger capacity too. Voice activated printing. This is a cool feature. You can talk to Alexa, Siri and Google to print. Photos This prints borderless photos. The printer isn’t that big, but it is bigger than the base footprint. The input paper is in the back and then it comes out that front. Both of those stick out some. All in all it’s a great printer. The only reason I didn’t give it 5/5, and gave it 4/5 stars, was because the ink was all over the bottom edge of the paper.

Good all in one printer. It comes with a set of inks to start printing. They do not include an USB printer cable (I highly recommend you have one handy just in case, I'll explain later). Setting it up was easy for me as I am very computer savvy, however there was some extra steps I had to take to be able to print wirelessly using my computers at home. You have to download Epson's app to your phone and it will guide you step by step with the setup process. You first remove all the blue stickers holding the parts together. Then you turn the printer on and install all the ink tanks. It will print some pages and will do some tests to have the printer heads correctly aligned. Afterwards it will guide you on how to connect the printer to your wifi router. Here is where I encountered a hiccup. It did connect to my wifi using the setup app on my phone, however once moving over to installing the software on my PC, the software would not find the printer over the network, even though it was connected to my wifi (100% confirmed). I had to go back a few steps in the PC software and tell it to temporally do the setup using a printer USB cable (thank god I had one, and its not your regular USB cable, one of the ends must by for printers, its like a square end, if you need one, make sure you buy this type of USB cable). Using that cable it did detect the printer and I entered all my wifi credentials -again- and finally, the PC did find the printer over the network (once the setup using the printer USB cable is over, you can remove the cable). The driver/software combo installed quite a few free programs (like scanner software, photo software, drivers, monitoring etc). Print quality is good and the printer is fast (at least on standard mode) and its not that noisy (the settings do have a quiet mode, which is quieter but slower). I like that it can print two sided pages automatically (saves paper). The only two cons I can find about the printer is that it feeds itself paper on the back (you know, like old printers, paper is exposed to dust etc) and not thru an internal cassette/paper tray, also the scanner does not auto feed paper, it's just your good old scanner bed where you have to put one paper at the time manually. So it's a very simple all in one in those regards, but hey, quality is good and price is good too. Highly recommend it for home use or for a student.

Printers really only have one job but they often times struggle... I cannot say that I've put this one totally through the wringer, yet, but I've printed (from my computer and my phone) and scanned and even copied something without any issues, so it's a win! This one took me about 20 minutes to fully set up, but it was mostly all through an app, on my phone, so it was much easier than trying to navigate the tiny screen and the process was really smooth. I feel like the interface is really easy to use, even for my not so tech-savy family members. Best of all, it is quite the workhorse which takes up very little space, considering. I work from home and space is a commodity that is vital. This little guy fits very nicely on a side cart and can do everything that I can possibly think that I could need, in a work from home situation. It's also a quick printer and the colors and nice and vibrant so you really can't ask for more... as long as it keeps working as trustily as it has for the past week!

    The everyday printer

The Epson XP4200 is a decent printer that can definitively get the everyday job done and with its minimal designs it will fit in any small setups. This printer is a budget printer so do expect some trade off. Setting it up was relatively easy using the Epson Smart Panel app. The device itself is well designed, and I do like the small footprint but it feels cheap. You can notice immediately from the moment you get it out of the box it is very light. Like most printers it is made of plastic but this one has some parts that are flimsy. It just didn't feel premium like some of the more expensive counterparts. For example the latch that holds the scanner glass when replacing the ink. That latch holds the scanner glass door by pressure with no help from hinges. If you place the latch incorrectly that top part will just fall shut. Installing the included ink cartridges was very simple. After that you will be promoted to complete a printer calibration, and that will take a few minutes. The printing quality, especially in color, is not the best but it's manageable. There's plenty of photo printing options you can choose from including borderless. Black & white of course there's no science to it. I think that printing speed was fine. It was fast enough for the most part, including in color. However, the scanning felt short. The scanning speed was slow, especially scanning at 600dpi. I also found that scanning in color the quality was not the greatest either . Even at higher resolution. Scanning images for projects that doesn't require high quality this will be good enough or for everyday use. Now, not everything is bad about this printer. Like I said before this a budget printer and there are trade off. On the plus side you get all kinds of connectivity from USB to Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi direct even Bluetooth. On the front you have a 2.4 inch color display. Alongside the screen you have the control buttons that are very responsive. This printer can do dual side printing and it does it very well. This in an Epson printer and they are reliable. I still own one of those Epson printer that print on the CDs. That printer is over 10 years old and it's still works like a champ. Overall, you get what you pay for an affordable printer that can handle the everyday task. It is easy to use and will fit in small setups. It comes with plenty of connectivity options and it also works with voice assistants like Google, Siri and Alexa. In the box you get the printer, power cable, ink cartridges, and manuals.

Love this printer and the price! This printer has been so much more reliable and easier to use than my old one from a different brand. I’ve had it for over a year so far. It stays connected to my devices over WiFi unlike my old one and has required zero troubleshooting. I typically do basic printing for school, but also printed some wedding invites and envelopes recently that turned out great. I like that it has borderless printing for certain paper sizes.

This is an experiment for me. TheXP-4200 All-in One Inkjet may be what I am looking for. I have been using one that a friend of mine owns. It is simple; directions are "direct! She has had this printer for 5 months - whereas I keep running to the Library to print. But now I run to her home. More convenient; the printer is responsive; no problems. Anyway, the Epson XP-4200 seems to be a good solution this time. My friend has had solid performance and lots of reliability. So, I am enjoying "her purchase." My budget has tightened, so this Epson can handle my current needs....out of time to purchase my own. Great discovery. And, its compact size is truly a relief for locating in my small spare bedroom among all my files and papers. Thank you A.E. Anthony

Product Review: Epson Expression Home XP-4200 All-in-One Inkjet Printer I recently purchased the Epson Expression Home XP-4200 All-in-One Inkjet Printer, and overall, I’m impressed with its performance for the price. Here’s my breakdown of its pros and cons after testing it out: Pros: ✅ Affordable Price: At just $99.99, this printer offers great value for home and small office use. The option to pay in installments is also a plus. ✅ Compact & Sleek Design: The XP-4200 is compact and doesn’t take up too much desk space. It has a modern, minimalist look that fits well in a home office setup. ✅ Wireless Printing: Setup was fairly easy, and the printer connects smoothly with Wi-Fi, mobile printing, and even voice-activated printing. Printing from my phone was seamless. ✅ Good Print Quality: The prints are crisp and vibrant, especially for text documents and simple graphics. It’s not a professional-grade photo printer, but for general use, it does a great job. ✅ All-in-One Functionality: This printer prints, scans, and copies, making it versatile for everyday tasks. The scanner is decent for documents, and copying works without issues. ✅ Touchscreen Display: The small color touchscreen makes navigation easy. It’s not as large or high-end as some premium models, but it’s functional and user-friendly. Cons: ❌ Ink Can Be Pricey: Like most inkjet printers, replacement ink can be expensive. If you print frequently, the costs may add up over time. Consider Epson’s EcoTank models if ink cost is a concern. ❌ Not the Fastest: Print speed is average at best, so if you need to print high volumes regularly, this might not be the best choice. ❌ Limited Paper Handling: The paper tray is relatively small, so you’ll need to refill it often if you print a lot. Also, it’s not ideal for heavy cardstock. Final Verdict: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.3/5) The Epson Expression Home XP-4200 is a solid budget-friendly printer for home users and students who need an affordable, all-in-one solution. It delivers good quality prints, easy wireless connectivity, and a compact design, but the ink costs and print speed might be drawbacks for heavy users. If you’re looking for a basic, reliable printer for everyday tasks, this is a great choice!

I'm thrilled with my new Epson printer purchased at Best Buy! The in-store experience was excellent. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, answering all my questions before I made my decision. Originally when I was looking for a new printer, I was thinking of going with a Brother brand, or a Canon. The size was not to big, and the cost was very respectable. When I got it home the instructions where easy, and the setting up was not a headache. Do follow the instructions if you have multiple networks! It prints via WIFI from a decent distance, and it's great print quality, and it updates itself, and uses ink well.

I've been without a printer at home for a decent amount of time, but going to the print shops when I do need to print can be inconvenient. For the average person (like myself) the Epson XP-4200 will get the job done. Set up was a little agitating, but not too hard. While the printer has a decent sized display, the display isn't touch screen. That would have helped out a lot more when entering my Wifi password. Still, this is only a minor annoyance as you only have to do it at initial setup. Had I properly followed the instructions, I would have noticed the mention of the app. Once the wifi is setup, you upgrade the firmware, and slide the edges of the paper loader out, you're ready to go! I had no problem connecting my devices to the printer after it was connected to the wifi. It easily popped up on set up. Printing quality is solid. I didn't get high quality paper, with regular paper (which most people will be using) it was great. I've attached two images of prints from the print, one of a color test I got from the internet which turned out great, another of a photograph of my son I printed direclty from my phone via the app, which, considering I was using regular paper, turned out pretty solid for all the details of the picture. I copied another image of my birth certificate and the copy came out great as well. For the average day to day user, this printer is a great printer. I would have preferred touch screen LCD on the printer, but in all reality you're not going to be using the screen on the printer that often, most things can be done via the app, or the device you're printing from. Highly recommend this for the average consumer.

The Expression XP-4200 from Epson was a bit of a pleasant surprise (the printer looks really nice out of the box) and bit of a disappointment at the same time. As per disappointment, when I tried printing a photo OF THE PRINTER that I took (printed on regular inkjet paper), the colors were disappointing. I cannot say whether or not the output would have been better on "Epson Specialty Paper" because none of that was included in what I was shipped to evaluate it here with. I do know on other color printers I own (inkjet and laser, even from another Epson) the colors are definitely more vivid on standard paper. Before that, I was set up for disappointment as I followed through the installation procedure: First it prompts me to scan a QR code to download the printer's app, I follow through, but while the app can see my other Epson printer, it cannot see this one. It's worth noting at this point I had not yet been given the option to set up the printer on WiFi, so that may be why the app couldn't find the printer (but it's the one controlling the order of things). Next, the prompts on the screen for the initialization are poorly written, for example, it prompts with "Initialization Starts. Install the Ink Cartridge for Setup that came with the printer"-- and what got me there is that the words "Initialization Starts" do not sound like something meant for me (the end user) to read, but rather a step that the design folks were to follow. Next, I have to wait 6 minutes for the printer to initialize, and I'm wondering (1) every time I change the ink is it going to be 6 minutes, or (2) if not, instead could they have done some of the initialization at the factory? Then there is an information screen after the initialization which not only seems unnecessary, it seems -- I'll say, poorly worded: It says "Initialization complete. Move on to print quality adjustments"- and like the "Initialization Starts" screen the "Move on" (which seems rude) sounds like instructions for the programmer more so than something I should be reading-- it should just take me to print quality adjustments without having me "move on" by pressing ok. Finally, initialization completes, I'm at the main menu, and it *still* hasn't connected me to WiFi which one would've thought would be part of initialization. I was able to go to settings and set up WiFI, though, and it connected fine. Besides Photos, I tried out printing a PDF file and maybe I'm just used to laser quality but I thought the text looked relatively poor quality, it's not smooth. It does print text quickly which is nice (unlike photos which took many minutes a page), and it does print on both sides of the page (which will save you paper).

    Great budget All-In-One

For a budget all-in-one, I'm really impressed with this printer. My last few printers have been higher end Epson photo AIOs and they have served me pretty well, but when my last one quit on me (after close to 10 years!), money was a little tight and I just needed the basics. I was skeptical of a printer costing less than half the price of my last 3, but I simply didn't need all the bells and whistles and I urgently needed to print stuff! I had this delivered same-day from my local store to save me a trip ($10 well spent for me!), and setup went MOSTLY smooth. I'll elaborate. I hate wireless connections for things that don't ever move and this is why. My previous printer used a wired ethernet connection which this printer does not have and I have long since lost a super-long USB cable I'd used with printers in the past, so I was stuck with Wi-fi for now. I got connected great and everything worked at first, but I kept losing connection. The answer is - don't turn the printer off. It goes into standby and stays connected, and since I quit turning it off, it has worked every time I've printed for the last couple weeks with no problems. The downside of this is that every time my power goes out (which happens every week or two around here), I expect the printer to stop working and I'm going to have to reconnect it to my Wi-fi. I'm not a fan of USB to be honest (wiggle it, it's broken, wiggle again, it's fixed), but I WILL be getting a long USB cable to keep the printer hard-wired. I think it IS possible to set up a static IP address and blah-blah-blah but who really wants to go down that rabbit hole? I don't have that kind of time. That is just stuff to keep IT people employed. For myself at home, I'd rather just buy a long cable. I don't really like the rear tray paper loading. It's going to sit there gathering dust and will pretty much require pulling the paper out if I want to put a dust cover on the printer (if you have a cat, you will understand...), but it works. Those are really my only complaints though. I seldom print photos these days, and while I used to print CDs/DVDs a lot, I don't feel the need to pay extra for a printer that will do that anymore. I haven't tried printing any photos with this printer, but from what I've seen, I think it would do a sufficient job with the 4 inks rather than the 6 that I'm used to. Quality of text printouts is excellent if you tweak the settings a little. I've been very pleased with the print quality overall. As long as it stays connected, this is a great little printer. If I find myself really NEEDING the features of a fancier printer, I'll upgrade and maybe move this one to my workshop, but it's doing everything I need it to do right now and for the price paid, I'm very happy with it. One kind of quirky thing that I actually really like - my old printer would automatically extend the output tray when I would print something. In my tight quarters in my house, this kind of got in the way. This printer requires you to pull the output tray out manually, so when I print, my pages just spit out onto the floor. That might be an issue for some, but I actually like it. No tray to push back in to keep my girlfriend from running into it when she walks by the printer! If I'm printing more than one page, I'll gladly pull out the tray to catch the sheets, but often I'm only printing a single page (recipes and lists!) and I actually don't mind picking it up off of the floor, due to our space constraints. I'm also really pleased to see automatic double sided printing in a printer at this price point. I can do without a lot of bells and whistles, but that is a required feature for me. I have not tried the scanner yet. I need a scanner about twice a year usually, but when I need it - I need it. I haven't seen a scanner that wouldn't do everything I need since the early 90's (does anyone remember greyscale or dithered monotone "hand scanners"? Yep, I used 'em), so I'm confident that it will serve my needs. As long as you can keep a reliable connection, this printer is excellent for every-day home use and I've been very pleased with the print quality. This is not meant for large documents or office use, but when you just need to occasionally print/scan a document or two, this thing is a clear winner. I paid the same price for printers years ago that wouldn't do half of what this printer does. It's a great home unit that will serve most people very well.

I particularly appreciate how useful the information is about installing the ink cartridges. That will likely eliminate future problems.
