As stated the picture quality is much better than the sony due to its awesome color brightness. Everything just pops. Blacks are amazing, and much better than expected. This is, and i drove around the entire DFW metroplex, the best front projector for movies under 6500. I am using an elite 110" 1.1 gain screen at 14' throw. Would not advise a brighter screen. And unless in a mostly lit room would not recommend a gray screen. Blacks are truly no issue with this screen.

I purchased this for my apartment and with a 10' throw sitting 9' away from a 125" max screen movies are just like I'm in the theater. Out of the box "THX" mode is phenomenal for no calibration and there is a "Living Room" and "Dynamic" setting if you want to use during the day. Obviously you will have to control light during the day, I only get morning sun and have white blinds in a white room so not at all an idea projector setup, and simply with the blinds closed and projecting onto a white wall, the image is fantastic for a projector. Where it really shines though is when the sun goes down, so if you have good control over the light in your room you're going to be set.
My only complaint is the 3d glasses. Although they have tremendous battery life, I watched about 7 or 8 movies intermittently before they needed a recharge, they don't sit well on my face, and I can see the rims within my field of view. Not that they are in the way of the image, it's just annoying since I don't normally wear glasses (no idea how you would wear them with glasses, but they do seem big enough to go overtop). For me a 2D image on a screen this size is more than enough to immerse me in the film though.
My only other complaint is when changing some of the image settings, the screen does go black while for 5 or so sec as the projector configures itself. Definitely not a deal breaker as I hardly ever do this, just annoying if you have something queued up and then realize you want to change something.
Overall if you want a big screen and you can have at least some control over light, I'd say anything over 65", go with a projector. It's going to be cheaper than any equivalent TV and deliver a much better image.

Look and feel:
Unit was solid, packed well in box. Everything was neat and in order. Unit has a nice white with black casing and a lens cover that opens electrically when turned on which helps against dust and exposure without the need of a manual lens cap. Remote is a bit bulky but has good sized buttons and a backlight orange color for night viewing. 3d glasses (2 in box) were easy to charge and are good looking glasses with a comfort fit.
Operation:
First note is that the initial projector we got was defective which was causing a white flicker on the 3 glasses intermittently (once every 30 minutes) which honestly wasn't a huge distraction but I contacted Epson and they were helpful and overnighted a brand new model for me to try and I sent the old one back via Fedex with their packing and slip provided at no cost. So overall the customer support was good although I wished I wouldnt have had to go through this in first place but things happen.
After running this replacement through 60 hrs of use (movies 2-d,3-d; gaming xbox,ps3; and tv via charter Hd I can honestly say this is a spectacular picture and product.
Its fan is noticeable when using it but in comparison to others I would say its below the norm for annoyance.
I did not notice any lag for video games that would sway the average gamer (sports, fps, rpgs and other types including motion controller games like sports champions all ran great.
In overview this is a high quality unit with good features: Built in 3-d using RF which has great range and function, 2-d to 3-d conversion, high powered lumen output which helps to run this in any room lighting (within reason), easy use and setup, and last but not least the best projector picture I could ask for. Sharp and great contrast.

This unit exeeded my expectations considerably in that it can upscale any fairly good quality DVD or Blue-Ray to 3D. When hooked up to a computer, it even presents whatever you are looking at in 3D - even photos! That was a big surprise and a big plus. The 3D effect isn't a s good as a DVD originally filmed in 3D but pretty good nonetheless.

i shopped around for along time and really did research to find where the technology is and where it is going. Then after comparisons found this projector to be the best for image, 2D/3D features, and quality. after installing and setting up myself the projector totally delivered!! every viewing session is an incredible picture experience. My family loves it.

We've had this for about 1 month and couldn't be happier. It was easy to set up and easy to use. The picture quality is even better than anticipated, and I'm amazed by how good it looks even when the room is well lit.

Replaced my InFocus ScreenPlay 7200 of ten years with this.
It was a difficult decision but based on my theatre this was the best fit. Love it. Quiet, the remote is amazingly simple to use, and the setup out of the box was a snap.
It's hot for sure, but since I've a ceiling mount set up, no biggie. I especially love the auto close over the lens to help keep the dust out.
Fingers crossed the rest of my experience is as great. :)

Epson makes good projectors and this is one of them!
I wanted more than just the basics and this projector delivers all of the features of a much higher-end product.
Don't skimp on the screen either...
Set-up was easy and the remote does a lot of it for you.
The lens is covered when not in use and the fan is quiet.
Worth every dollar~!
Buy it~!

This projector purchase was the result of 3 months of research. It is not cheap, but man is it worth the cost. The picture is clear, bright and sharp. I project it onto a 110" screen and it looks fantastic!
Even has an automatic lens cover that opens when the unit is on!

Stunning picture quality and brightness, huge lens shift and zoom for flexibility of placement. Excellent blacks. Many adjustments and user presets. Manual focus and LS a minor inconvenience at this excellent price point. Highly recommended.

This projector has a great picture and the cooling fan is very quiet compared to my last projector. 3d look outstanding, although I wish they provided a charger that allowed you to charge multiple sets of 3d glasses simultaneously.

This is a great 3D hi def projector. My only concern is with the dynamic aperture. The first projector purchased had a defective iris but Best Buy was quick to replace. Hopefully, this won't be a weak spot with the projector. So far, it's working great.
As for brightness, this is superior and doesn't require a semi dark room to use.

Would recommend. Amazing projector. I have not used 3d, but 2 is amazing. Great for movies, but not for PowerPoint style implementation. The optical zoom keeps the clarity crisp.

Home Theater Must Have!!

I have a pretty intense home theater setup currently. I run the this projector with a pretty discriminate review on quality of overall experience. I am really pleased with this projector. I was debating on this and the 6020 series as well. I finally went this way as my home theater guy and I deferred to understanding what are you getting for the difference?!
It came down to whether I wanted a back cover and the unit in black plus a few minor things. My setup is built into a ceiling recess that can only be seen from the front. So this wasn't an issue. Either way, the unit runs great. Picture quality is fantastic. Movies show great. I stream Netflix, HBOgo, Amazon Prime, and they all look great. The blue rays are great as well. The neighborhood usually comes over for games and movie nights.
Price is fair for me to justify as it reads well with what I am spending on the rest of the equipment. The glasses are my only dislike. I have had one set break. $100 just like that! You have to make sure the kids don't just throw them around or leave them on the couch. That is the only thing. It isn't often we watch 3d shows or movies, but when I do, (avengers) it looks amazing!
Video games play very well without the lag that I have read about. I am not a super gamer, but I run an Xbox 360 and Wii U. Both look beautiful. Call of Duty, NBA 2k13, etc..
I run the following equipment:
Epson 5020 UB 2d/3d projector, Onkyo 818 Receiver, Pioneer Elite Blueray/DVD player, Panamax Line Conditioner, Apple TV, Control4, Wii U, XBox 360. Draper Clarion Cinemascreen @ 110 in, Klipsch Reference Series 7.1 Channel Surround Speakers & subwoofer. Lighting, and all eqipment controlled via iPad or iPhone.

We just finished off our media room in our house. After reading many reviews on various projectors, we decided on the Epson PowerLite 3D 3LCD. All I can say is that the reviews DON'T LIE! With some of the presets, you can make this picture almost as good as a backlit LED TV. The only thing about it that makes it better? 100" of widescreen 3D awesomeness.
We went with the Screen Innovations Black Diamond screen and with that screen and this projector combo with a full 7.1 surround with some Bowers & Wilkins you have 1 incredible combination! Enough said!

This is my first projector and I couldn't be happier. I project a 109" image on a Seymour AV acoustically transparent retractable screen, and the picture is extremely film like.
I'm amazed with the quality, and our family is blown away every time we watch a movie, tv, video games (we have not noticed any lag BTW), etc. We sit only 11 feet away, and the big picture just sucks you in without any eye strain, or 'screen door' effect.
I really have nothing bad to say about this projector other than the noticeable fan noise on the 3D modes and brighter modes, but when viewing in an appropriate lit room in the Cinema or THX modes, it's super bright, and you cannot hear the fan. By the way, the color out of the box on the THX mode is incredible!
