    The Surrealist Masterpiece

As there is hardly any information regarding this item, I am writing this review to inform any interested parties. This is the Australian Blu-ray edition of 'Eraserhead.' It was originally released on May 1st, 2012. The case says this version is Region B, but I can confirm it will work on American PlayStation 3's or stand-alone players. It was released by Australian distributor Umbrella Entertainment. The picture quality is absolutely stellar. If you're familiar with the extremely modest origins of the film, and/or you've seen the film before, you'll likely be surprised at just how great it looks. Now, the setting is very dark (literally), contrasted by sporadic spots of very bright light. This can easily be mistaken for print damage, with lots of little specks (at least, I'm going to say it's an easy mistake, since it's one I made initially), but upon further inspection (I've watched it three times so far, the second and third really for the sake of this review), I can't find a single instance of this. Every issue I thought I saw initially was simply a product of the film's setting. This is an extremely pristine transfer (supposedly the same as the one used for the German, British and Japanese versions), and one scene involving a close-up of Judith Robert's Beautiful Girl Across the Hall character, looks not just "stellar" or "pristine", but positively perfect. At least one other brief shot (of a light source) attains this same status, and it's almost unbelievable just how amazing (practically modern!) this film can look. On the audio front, also good news all-around. The Australian version is the only Blu-ray to utilize Dolby Digital, as opposed to LPCM like the others. But the sound is wonderful. It perfectly captures David Lynch's score, which is a vital part of the film. I was a bit worried that the dialogue might be a little crowded out by the soundtrack, but thankfully (most thankfully, since there are no subtitles on this release, which I virtually always use) all the dialogue has great clarity. I'm not sure if a film like 'Eraserhead' will ever have an abundance of special features, but aside from the standard trailer (which is fine, but really doesn't do the film justice), there is only one special feature: the feature-length (almost as long as the film itself) documentary 'Eraserhead Stories' (here referred to simply as 'Making Of'). It's mostly an extended interview with David Lynch, but that alone is an immense treat for any fan. In addition, there are some rare photos, a tiny bit of behind-the-scenes footage, and the wonderful Catherine Coulson interacting with Lynch over the phone. This is my first Australian Blu-ray, so I don't know if this is the norm for them, but the case is the same size as that of a standard DVD, instead of the typically slimmer cases made in the States. There is no slipcover or insert. The film is rated 'M', which I believe is something like the American PG-13 (though I'm really not very informed on the subject). One character uses about half a dozen mild expletives. There is a bedroom scene, but nothing more than kissing is shown, and it's mostly a bizarre prelude to what we know will happen. More than anything else, viewers should be wary about the disturbing nature of the film. I don't want to describe anything, as that could spoil some of the experience, but I think it's safe for teenagers and up. To summarize: The picture is stellar, the audio is great, the 'Eraserhead Stories' documentary is a must-see for any fan of the film. All in all, this is a wonderful edition of what is, in my opinion, an incredible film. Worth every cent.

I don't claim to understand this after one viewing, but I am glad I purchased it and will watch it again many times. No problem with the picture or sound. All the "extras" are just filler to me and don't add any value to the product. Better than sitting through the disappointing Twin Peaks. Can see how it ultimately led to the fantastic Blue Velvet.

Excellent video, sharp and crisp black and white transfer. Included booklet is informative and entertaining. The early film shorts provided as extras are entertaining. Well worth the higher cost associated with Criterion releases. Glad to see Best Buy expanding their stock beyond the usual mainstream offerings.

    A True Surreal Masterpiece

This movie is not like anything you have ever seen before in your life. It seems much like a nightmare that you can't wake up from, but one you don't wish to. For some moments, it comes off as an eerie horror movie, but in the end you will agree that this is one strange, surreal trip. I highly recommend this movie, not because of petty standards of "quality" that movies today must live up to. I recommend this movie so highly because it does something that most movies cannot: it forces you to think. If thinking a movie that makes you think is not what you are looking for, then I would recommend distancing yourself from "Eraserhead" because it will only perplex.

This is a wonderful film about a father and his son. A dead, calf fetus was used for the baby, so I am told. A brilliant film. Fun for the whole family.

Lynch supervised 4k restoration. That alone should get any Lynch fan to buy this. Or if your in the mood for a mind job, go no further.

Okay here's a movie that is wild and unpredictable. You follow the life of Henry Spencer as he slowly starts to loose his grip on reality...if he ever had one. This film is enjoyable and will leave you wondering what you watched!

A strange film void of life. It hovers weightlessly over your head. You can watch this movie a thousand times and still find something new. A haunting portrait of fatherhood.
