This has been one of my 80's favorites ever since I watched it on VHS after renting it from the video store. A simple story with compelling characters. Now to see it presented on a Shout Factory Collector's edition just makes me love this film even more. The print is crystal clear. The audio channels have excellent balance. The icing on the cake are the special features. Great behind the scenes documentaries on the making of the film from start to finish. My favorites are the segments on the model work and the score. You'll also get to see the deleted original opening for the film. This is the BEST this film will ever be on Blu-Ray. Run fast to Best Buy to purchase it.

from Amazon.com: A thrilling landmark film that jolts along at a breakneck pace, Escape From New York leaped to cult status with high-octane action, edge-of-your-seat suspense and a mind-blowing vision of a lone warrior (Kurt Russell) battling his way out of a post-apocalyptic Manhattan! Hailed as "stylish and scary" (Los Angeles Times), "dark and dangerous" (Newsweek) and "gloriously...fun" (Tyler Morning Telegraph), this fast-paced and furiously entertaining thriller grabs you by the throat and won't let go! In a world ravaged by crime, the entire island of Manhattan has been converted to a walled prison where brutal prisoners roam. But when the U.S. President (Donald Pleasence) crash-lands inside, only one man can bring him back: notorious outlaw and former Special Forces war hero Snake Plissken (Russell). But time is short: in 24 hours, an explosive device implanted in his neck will end Snake's mission and his life unless he succeeds!

Kurt Russell, all american, Disney teen movie star, playing a tough, anti hero sent into New York (now a high security prison) to rescue the President of the United states who's plane has crashed inside the walls of New York. Great action and adventure and yet at the same time you have the same level of disbelief you had when you saw Yul Brenner as a gunslinger in the Magnificent Seven. Either way, you get drawn in and find yourself cheering for Snake Plitkin (Russell) by the end of the movie. Too fun!

One of Kurt Russell's top action movies that ranks right up there with The Thing & Big Trouble in Little China. Kurt was born to play the ultimate anti-hero Snake Plissken. With a great cast (Isaac Hayes, Donald Pleasance, etc.) of crazy characters, this is an awesome 80's B Movie. There are a ton of special features & multiple commentaries with the best one from Russell & director John Carpenter. The picture was a big upgrade over the DVD. Big thumbs up!

John Carpenter's classic Sci-Fi film

John Carpenter, the man behind HALLOWEEN and ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, proved he was not a one-trick pony with this classic. Set in 1997, Manhattan is a maximum security prison and Snake Plissken has only 24 hours to free the President of the United States. A dark, pessimistic tale starring Kurt Russell, Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, Harry Dean Stanton, Adrienne Barbeau, and the legendary Ox Baker. This is a MUST OWN!

In 1997, a major war between the United States and the Soviet Union is concluding, and the entire island of Manhattan has been converted into a giant maximum security prison. When Air Force One is hijacked and crashes into the island, the president (Donald Pleasence) is taken hostage by a group of inmates. Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a former Special Forces soldier turned criminal, is recruited to retrieve the president in exchange for his own freedom.

John Carpenter Classic...

This is not your 2000 CGI film, this is from 1981 when creativity still meant something. The first use of green screen came in the 40s & 2D CGI in the early 70's. Early 90s was the birth of 3D CGI which put alot of stuntmen outta work. I am a fan of older films when car wrecks were actually car wrecks, so I gave this film my 5 stars, it's a classic action film from pioneer John Carpenter & i love movies that are on the edge of insanity.

John Carpenter's taut slab of low-budget sci-fi has Airforce One crash-landing in New York - now one big jail - and the president (Donald Pleasence) held hostage by criminals. Enter Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a newly convicted criminal given 22 hours to save the president. To make sure he doesn't lose interest they implanted a neck explosive on him, to be removed when finished.
Entertainment of the highest order.

There was a big hoopla amongst fans when these steelbooks were first announced, seeing that this release is the same exact disc as the previous edition released by Scream Factory a couple years ago. If you own that release, skip this one. If you don't own any version of this film definitely pick this version up. The artwork on the steelbook is awesome and the film and extra content are fantastic.

John Carpenters 1981 Dystopian Horror film Stars Kurt Russell as the reluctant Snake Plisskin a former soldier turned bank robber, being sent to manhattan, now a walled Island hell hole where criminals are sent and no one comes out, when its discovered a very important individual carrying something vital went down over the prison. Now he has to get in and get out, and fast if he wants to keep breathing in doing so avoiding catastrophe, but if you ask snake he might say we have it coming. (Also Hideo Kojimas inspiration for Solid Snake)

John Carpenter is at top form for this. He and Kurt Russell created a lasting 80s icon in Snake Plisskin. This rebellious, enigmatic character is on par with 80 pop culture hero's like Terminator and Robocop. The dystopian world on display is like a perfect setting for this great cast to build this memorable, yet simple plot that is perfectly underlined by Carpenters ominous score.

One of those movies that resonates a particular time. The unlikely hero Snake Pliscan with a mysterious past is the epitome of macho anti-authority tasked with rescuing the president of the United States after his plane crashes in NYC which has now been walled off essentially making it a giant prison full of lawlessness and ruled by criminals.

If you are looking at this product you have already seen the movie and are just curious about the steelbook. It's great. The art is well done and they didn't forget the spine like others have done in the past. If you are a fan of the movie I'd say pick it up. Those who haven't seen if it's an old cheesy action movie. Give it a shot.

Escape From New York was one of the biggest drive-in movie hits of the early 80s, before the home video revolution killed the 'passion pits'. It also changed Kurt Russell from a former Disney child star to a full fledged action movie hero. Special effects may seem quaint by modern CGI standards, but it's still a fun story with a great supporting cast

I don't need to tell you how good Escape From New York is as a movie. You should already know that. I've owned this movie on DVD, then rebought it on blu-ray, and now I've rebought it AGAIN once I saw the great new steelbook design and packaging. This great film now has a great package to accompany it.

I recently created a database of all my dvd movies and couldn't believe that I didn't have this movie on any type of media. I remember it was a real departure for Kurt Russell who had always played the good guy. I was glad to find it on bluray and it was still fun to watch, although compared to action movies nowadays, it seems pretty low budget. The music is by John Carpenter (writer and director) and I still enjoy it.

If you're a fan of campy 80s action flicks you cannot go wrong with ANYTHING Kurt Russell did cause the man was in some gems. Nothing though, will ever match the magic of Escape from New York. If you love Russell and Carpenter together then this is the editon for you, Scream Factory blu rays are the way to go.

I double dipped on this one. Already owned the previous Scream Factory release of this. The special features in the Steel Book set are the same as the previous version, but the steel book is beautiful. For any steel book fan this is a must. This is the definitive version of Escape From New York.
