I have used an Escort or Passport most of my adult life and I am yet to have one fail me. Upgrading from my existing Passport 9500i to this Escort Max 360c MKll has been an interesting experience. There is no doubt that the detection level of Max 360 and its ability to indicate the direction of the radar is a major improvement however there are a few things that took some time to get used to. The display on the Max 360 is recessed for better viewing in sunlight but its not very bright even on its highest setting. The alert tones on the Max 360 are not nearly as loud even on the loudest setting. Because the tones of the alert are distinctive you can still pick them up even when playing music at a decent volume but again its not as alerting. The voice alert built into the Escort was clear and helped when radar was detected. Over the past week of my commuting the Max 360 has picked up alerts at a farther distance than my old Passport but it goes from slow alert to fast alert much quicker whereas the Passport would slowly increase from slow alert to fast alert. Going to fast alert quickly made me much more alarmed but I am not sure that it was always necessary. The Auto learn feature worked great and by day three it has learned all the false alarms and stayed quiet through my drive. After a week plus of driving I am happy with the detector and its capabilities. Sadly the Drive Smarter app was a major disappointment. Luckily the Escort’s performance is not impacted by the poor performance of the Drive Smarter app. The app had trouble finding and then keeping connectivity with the Escort. If I stopped at a gas station and went inside to get something the app would not reconnect automatically with the Escort when I got back in the car. The Over Speed alert was set at 10mph over the limit but the app would always alert as soon as I went over the speed limit vs 10mph over the limit. The Escort display shows your current speed and with the Drive Smarter app it also shows the speed limit along side of it. Because my car’s navigation already does this it wasn’t that big of an enhancement. Overall the frustration with app isn’t enough to convince me to switch from Waze which does mostly the same thing without having to be connected to the Escort. Installing the Escort in the car was simple using the windshield mount. The mount felt solid and the magnetic base allows you to install or remove the detector without much effort. I installed the Drive Smarter app on my iphone and was able to upgrade the firmware of the detector as well as set up the wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Within the app I was able to configure/view the numerous Escort settings. Because of the numerous issues I had with the app I spent a limited time using it.

I’ve had experience with Escort Radar’s products in past vehicles, so I immediately knew that this would be a great addition to my vehicle since I’ve recently begun a longer commute to a new job. Seeing that this is a connected device sealed the deal. There are several product features that I appreciate: • Great range – alerts come well in advance of them being a threat. • Automatically filters out non-threats – when you’ve driven a route a few times, the detector will “learn” what sources are non-threatening. • Crowd-Sourced Alerts – using the app on a smartphone, the detector shares alerts to the cloud so that detectors of other users of the app will get that information in advance of it becoming a threat to them. • Connected Detector – the detector looks for new database information for stationary(ish) threats such as red-light cameras, popular radar van locations, etc. Also, using the app you can update the firmware of the detector as new revisions are released. • Directional Location of Threats – arrows on the connector will point the general direction of the current threat. The detector comes with a carrying case, Escort Radar’s SmartCord that allows muting and other functions directly from the power plug side of the cable, and a really nice mount that uses a vacuum attachment to the windshield and a beefy magnetic attachment to the detector.

Installation Installation of the Escort Max was easy. The Escort Max device did not require any assembly and it attached to the windshield mount was a simple magnetic connection. It seemed to hold the radar detector well unless the road was particularly bumpy. The only real complaint I have does has to do with the mount. The part of the mount where the radar detector attaches isn't very long. So, if you have a sloped window -- like I do -- it can be a little difficult to get the radar detector at a good angle where the mount it completely attached. It would be great if an extension was available. There is only one cable that is required for the operation -- the power adapter for the car cigarette lighter port. The other step required is to connect the device to the app on your smartphone. Within about 5 minutes, you can be up and running with the radar detector. Ease of Use While this device has some really nice features, its main purpose -- to detect police radar scanners -- is sort of an automated process. Once you have the radar detector installed power it on and let it scan while driving. It does a good job picking up radar and will identify false alerts. Even though I did connect the device to the app, I relied on the device to complete its main function. The app could use some work. I didn't have issues with it connecting or staying connected, but it didn't seem to sync information well. At one point, the radar detector signaled an alert, which wasn't recorded in the app. Since I feel as though the app is meant more for looking up history, don't really rely on it while the radar detector is operational. I did like the interactive map that was available. It showed not only my current location, but it also provided places where other drivers reported speed traps. Conclusion In my experience testing the radar detector, it seemed to pick up police radars -- where a car was stationary with an officer monitoring traffic with a radar gun -- and help prevent users from getting speeding tickets. The cost of this detector is a little higher than other options, but you get a premium experience with it.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t owned a radar detector since approximately 2010. I remember it being loud, with a silence button you’d have to engage to quiet the alert. It would often go off driving past stores with automatic doors, and also required that you set a toggle between city or highway driving. Presumably to calibrate the detection for the appropriate roadway being driven. When I received the Escort MAX 360c, I was surprised with how much smarter detectors are now. In the box, you’ll find the Escort Max 360c, a car power adapter with an available USB port, a magnetic mount for your windshield, a storage case, and an owners manual. This particular model has integrated GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. Set up is fairly simple, attach the mount to your vehicles windshield in the recommended spot in the manual, the detector attaches easily since its magnetic, adjust positioning so that its pointing forward properly, and plug in the power adapter. While there is a power button on the device, I found that the Escort MAX turned itself on the second it detected power. For easy configuration, I’d highly recommend downloading the Escort Live app. It’s free in the app stores, and while it does offer an in-app subscription for the map features, it’s included free once you connect to the device using bluetooth. The bluetooth pairing process was painless, simply popping up on iOS when the app detected it. I did run into issues trying to connect to WiFi while parked in my driveway. I have a built in WiFi hotspot in my newer SUV where this is installed, and the connection failed every time I’d try to set up while near my home network. Once I drove away, and parked at a nearby parking lot, the Escort Max was able to connect quickly. It does require that your phone be connected to the network being added or have hotspot on your phone to use the WiFi functionality, but that would be the case regardless of use case on the road. The first thing you’ll notice once connected to WiFi, is the MPH indicator becomes enabled on the screen of the device, indicating the speed limit of the roadway you’re on. This made it easy to see quickly if you’re driving over the speed limit. The Escort Live app is easy to use, displaying a map where you can mark caution areas, view other reported areas, the current traffic, and also see the speed limit. There is also a tab for a “Dashboard,” which displays your current speed and appears to have playback controls for your device. I rarely use this feature, but for those who lack smart displays in their vehicles, is a nice add on. The app also allows you to toggle the various features and settings of the device when connected to bluetooth. This was far easier to use than trying to toggle the settings on the device while mounted. I should note that the app is NOT required to use the device, and the device buttons will allow you to make some basic adjustments to volume, brightness of the display, a mute button, set sensitivity, and even mark locations for future alerts. The Escort MAX itself has a small screen, which changes based on your WiFi Connectivity. It’s able to detect speed cameras, and does a great job covering 360 degrees around the vehicle. I did get some annoying alerts driving around town, but this is expected when hitting larger retailer areas where wireless sensors are used for doors, drive-thru, etc. I also noticed that it would randomly pick up vehicle parking sensors. The device does a great job of giving you an alert without being annoying. You’ll often hear the initial alert, followed by muted alerts, which I didn’t find distracting at all. The device also has light up arrows around the display area to indicate where the signal is coming from, which I’ve never seen on other detectors. Where the device truly shines is when there is an actual speed detector. The range was enough to see a speed detector sign several blocks away, and the alerts grow in intensity as you approach the signal source. When I drove by speed checks along the highway, I had enough advance warning to either check my speed, or adjust as needed to be within acceptable speeds when driving by. I was honestly surprised with just how well this did detecting EVERY SINGLE police vehicle along the roadways; whether stationary or vehicle mounted radar driving by. The device carrying case also makes it easy to store the detector when you’re parking the vehicle for extended periods. I never once found the device overheat, even when left on the windshield all day in the sun (wouldn’t recommend this, but nice to know). Overall, I’d HIGHLY recommend the Escort MAX 360. I’ve never owned a radar detector that worked so well, the app runs smoothly, connects to the device quickly, and the map features do a great job illustrating actual traffic conditions and areas to be cautious of speed traps reported by other drivers. While the cost might be a bit higher than other detectors, this one offers a premium experience with premium features to match.

The Escort Max 360c MK II is a great tool for someone that has that need for speed sometimes. I have been using this for a few days now and this thing has saved me a few times. I can honestly say that this device will pay for itself by saving you from getting tickets. So, lets go over some of the features and the Pros and Cons of the new Escort Max 360c MKII. Unboxing and Set: In the box you will receive the radar detector, the smart power cable, the magnetic windshield mount and a nice carrying case if you need to switch vehicles. The unit is ready to go pretty much out the of the box. Simply plug in the power cable mount the unit to the windshield with the provided mount and get to cruising. Since I use do a combination of local and highway driving on my commute to work, I left the unit on Auto mode, and it performed just fine. You do have the option of using other modes such as Highway or city driving, I just find it easier to leave it on auto and it works just fine. So, this is where I ran into my first issue. Supposedly, you can connect this radar detector to the “Drive Smarter” app which allows you to access alert and radars signals picked up by other users but for the life of me I could not get this thing to connect to my phone. I tried everything in my power to get this thing to and nothing worked. I even tried to connect the radar to my laptop and update the software that way and to see if that help but even after that I was not able to connect this radar to the “Drive Smart” application. At this point I had given up on getting the radar detector connected to my phone and its application. However, I was able to skip the setup process on the app and was able to still see where other users were marking their reports. Overall, the setup and usage without the application is simple. Features: Defender Database: Redlight / Speed Camera Locations and Alerts – I tested this feature on a red-light camera by my house and it worked beautifully. A traffic signal and audible alert warns you of the camera ahead. You can also add speed and red right cameras and speed traps with the unit itself and the application. Detector Bands: Laser, X-Band, K-Band, Ka Photo Radar, Ka Wideband Radar, Pop Mode Radar and City and Highway mode. 360 Degree Awareness with Directional Alerts Range: Now this is probably the most important factor. I tried to find out what the range on this unit was, but I was unable to. Although, the unit was able to pick up a radar from a trooper from almost 700 feet away, giving me enough time to safely slow down. False Alerts: Comparing this radar to my previous model, I did notice a lot less false alerts. My older radar detector was pretty much picking up anything and everything to the point that it was pretty much useless. The Escort Max 360c MKII also has auto learn feature. What this does is once it learns your route it starts to weed out all the false alert locations. I had started out with about 5 false alerts on my commute and now am down to about 2 on in about 2 days. Dual Band WIFI and Over the Air Updates (if you can get it connected) PROS: • Voice Alerts • A lot less false alert • Range • Early warning • Good Quality Build • Red light and Speed Camera alerts • 360 Degree Coverage with directional alerts • WIFI and OTA update (when it works) CONS: • Unable to pair the radar unit to my phone • Coiled power cable Overall, the radar detector itself is a pretty good unit, it has performed well and has save me a bunch of times. This unit will pretty much pay for itself if you have a heavy foot. I was pretty bummed about not being able to pair the unit to my phone because it seems to be advertised as one of its main features but was still able to use unit and it did what I was meant to do, so I can’t be too upset. Hopefully, this connectivity issue can be corrected in the future updates. I would recommend that you check out the new Escort Radar Detector.

Works very well. There are occasional false positives, but in most cases the detector learn about them and filter them out if you travel the route frequently. The speed camera warning works very well. The app is OK. not very impressive. Maybe I have to learn how to use, but so far I cannot control the radar setting from it. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase.

Got this in time for my long road trip from KC to Tennessee. Want to make sure we had a cop free trip i am a safe driver but can go over the limit a little. So this has to be on to the best radar detectors ive owned. The range on detectio. Was over a mile and gave me plenty of time to adjust speeds. This picks up all bands and will even let you know if there is a red light camera system. It gives you a signal light if it detects the red light system and a cop car for radar. I have not seen the indicator for a plane but i dont know what states use that anymore. The detecotr has four arrows on it one top one bottom and one on each side. One of these will light up to indicate what side the radar is hitting you from that makes it so much easier. On the display screen you will have what kind of band it is and there is 2 graph bars one on each side of the band this will let you know if the arrow is on top and the graph bar is taller on one side more then the other then you know what side in front of you the cop is at. So front of you on the right side so you dont have to keep looking around. You can change the colors of the screen and the arrows if you want to match some of the light in your car. The buttons on top are easy to remember and find. You can set it up to let you know if you going over the speed limit and pick by how much. You have a voice option on it we just have it set to sound. You get to connect this to your phone make sure you use Escort Live app they have a scan code in the box that app is not set up yet i had to call to get to the correct app. They said they are working on getting all of the radar detectors set up under 1 app. If you use the app you can mark the radar trap on it for other escort detecors. Overall i really like this it looks nice easy to set up and function. This has helped over this very long road trip i will continue to use it.

I own two Escort radar detectors, and the MKII is solid overall, but the directional arrows can be difficult to see while driving. They’re smaller and harder to notice unless the detector is close to your line of sight. I’ve had a few false alerts since purchasing, but performance has otherwise been great. If you’re willing to spend the extra money, I’d recommend the Redline 360c — much better visually with improved accuracy.

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We're glad you're enjoying the Max 360c MKII overall. If the arrows are difficult to see, try adjusting the mounting position closer to your line of sight, as this may be helpful. False alerts may happen- adjusting the sensitivity and keeping the firmware up to date will help reduce them. The detector will also begin to learn stationary falses and lock them out the more you drive. The detector also offer band segmentation to fine tune the frequencies that it will alert to. While the Redline 360c is best for overall performance and range, the Max 360c MKII is not too far behind. We hope you enjoy it, and if you ever have any questions or need help adjusting settings, please feel free to contact us at 800-543-1608.

Haven't had one in years but this works very well. Need to play around with it more to really calibrate it but it has picked up cops extremely well. Does have false/positives still but you learn them quickly and it does store them if you pass by them repeatedly. Has already paid off.

I have used my Escort Passport Max 2 for maybe the last 12 years and finally needed to update it. I took a 1200+ mile trip right out of the box, and I must say, the scanner is very useful as I passed quite a few traps trough Arizona, New Mexico, and Kansas. The app and its settings are overwhelming. I had to leave it as is and run with it. I got the Escort camera that connects right to it and works well.

Great range on the highway and allows customization to eliminate false alarms. Similar benefits of the Redline, but has a few more false alarms and less range - but it has better value than the Redline.

Well, this is gonna be a weird review. This radar detector is great, but not perfect. This thing is very sensitive and will pickup a lot of signals that isn't necessary police's but it'll get the job done. For 700$, it is a lot but Id say its worth it.

I had not had a detector in many years, but purchased this one due to a recent ticket. I did research on many brands and models, and the Escort Max 360c MKII matched my needs. The range and early detection is excellent. The best part is to use the Drive Smarter app which connects to the detector using Bluetooth. It works with CarPlay and is simple to use for navigation. The app uses a database which updates from others using the same app and provides extra alerts to speed traps, previous radar encounters, and other possible warnings. This detector uses GPS and compares your speed to the set speed on the highway you are traveling on. I find myself looking at these speed displays more than my speedometer to stay in a reasonable range where a ticket is less likely. The detector has many functions that can be modified by the user, also. I am very happy with this detector and highly recommend it.
