More of a sequel than a remake!

While many were quick to call The Evil Dead a remake or reimaging of the original Sam Raimi masterpiece, in all actuality it works more as a sequel to that one, allowing ED2 and Army of Darkness to occupy their own alternative universe worlds. True fans of these films will know what I am talking about. Also, this is one of the goriest films I have seen in a theater in forever.

Powerful imagery and non-stop horror are perfect.

This is exactly what I wanted out of an Evil Dead remake. I'll be the first to admit that this movie is not for everyone. People literally got up and left the theater when it first came out due to disgust. However, if you've seen the original, you already know how shocking it is and generally what to expect. If you want a scary movie that never lets up, give this one a shot.

A great revision to the ever so popular Cult Classic. Bruce Campbell's character is updated and envisioned as a young woman struggling over a drug addiction with help from her brother and four friends. A trip out to their Grandfathers cabin entraps them to the source of pour Evil , The Book of the Died. Once the evil dead is awaken, nothing can stop it's infection.

Being a huge fan of the original Evil Dead movies I was blown away with how well the remake was put together. I'm sure Bruce Campbell having his hand in making the movie had a large part to do with it. Same basic plot and the acting isn't anything to write home about but overall the movie was amazing!!!

I enjoyed the first make of the series which was scary enough with practical effects. You add in the modern updates of today's visual effects and you are in for scare and gore galore! I just hope they continue with the after credits leave. #Groovy (I hear they are letting that continue in a gore related series for Starz: named Ashe vs Evil Dead)

    A Great Remake

Finally, we get a remake that respects and pays homage to the original. It's a lot of fun for Evil Dead fans and improves upon the original from '79. It achieves the dark, scary tone the original attempted to, but couldn't due to the lack of a real budget. Highly recommended for any horror fan!

One of the finest horror remakes

Many horror remakes either fail to capture the brilliance of the original or just completely fail to create its own path. This does neither. It invokes the visceral horror of the original, while also carving its own path. Very good horror, and one of the best of the last few years.

    Reboot or Remake?

I don't know if this was a remake/reboot or prequel/sequel. There are plenty of gory scenes just like the original (if you're into that). Sam Rami and Bruce Campbell have said this is what they envisioned the Original Evil Dead to be like. I hope they really didn't mean that. To me the film felt rushed and not polished. More background could have been done for the opening scene characters. Like who where the rangy people that helped track down the possessed girl? Overall the film was enjoyable. I tried not to give to many detail so I wouldn't spoil it for the people that have not seen the movie yet. I will say to the people that saw the original do not go into the movie expecting the same thing as the original. If you do then you may be highly disappointed. I hope this review was helpful.

The remake of the evil dead is one of the few movies that surpassed the original. It was a great movie and would be scary to anyone new to the series. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that it was close to the original and would be able to relate parts and it seemed more funny then scary. But a great movie and well worth the watch.

While it's hard to live up to the Sam Raimi original, this remake does a decent job of rebooting and updating the material. What's great is the new dramatic layer of the main character dealing with drug addiction and her friends hosting an intervention that goes horribly wrong.

As far as remakes go this is by far one of the best. Really ups the shock factor and manages to squeeze a few scares definitely living up to the original.

This is a great re-imagining to a movie that I'm sure many of you have already seen. This is not a remake of the original, but a re-imagining of it. Don't watch it and expect to see the original updated with new special effects, but go in watching it with an entirely fresh perspective. Trust me, you'll appreciate it more.

The original Evil Dead was a classic of the "cabin in the woods" subgenre, going so far over the top it doubled back into black comedy. This remake, though, plays things straight. Be warned: the giggles you got from evil dead one are hard to find in this one.

Without Bruce Campbell is it really an evil dead move? A tough question to answer but at least the actors do good and didn't mess it up. Blu-ray is awesome clear and you feel the blood splatter on you in this twisted horror style cabin in the woods experience.

Having Bruce Campbell involved in directing helped keep this in line with the original. Lots of gore as you would expect. If you could think of it they did it. Good flick for getting into Halloween mood. Blue ray had extras that we're interesting to view.

I was able to enjoy this by viewing the movie as separate from the original rather than a remake. I think they did a pretty good job with this one. The acting is bad, but I'm not watching it for that reason. Visually the gore was awesome I loved it!

Huge fan of anything Ash related and was not looking forward to a remake, but this was great. Gone is the camp and really low budget effects, but at the heart, this felt like an Evil Dead movie. Some nice nods to the original series of movies. Some decent extras rounded this out.

To me this is one of the better horror remakes in recent years. While not perfect, it is a good time to watch, especially with all the practical special effects and limited CGI. While the acting isn't that great, it still doesn't take you out of the movie. Would recommend this to any horror fan.

I had wanted to see this movie again and was really looking for the digital copy. This version said it had a digital copy and was on sale for a nice price so I bought it. The version I received in the mail didn't have a digital copy. Returned it to a physical Best Buy and was told due to a manufacturer mess up, there's not versions with the digital copy. Kinda disappointed. The movie itself is okay. I still prefer the original Evil Dead films.
