Customers are saying

Customers are pleased with the FiLIP Smart Locator. However, some customers have reported that the battery life could be improved, noting that it drains quickly and doesn't last as long as expected. More specifically, some users experienced the battery dying after a shorter period than anticipated. Further improvements to battery performance would enhance the overall user experience.

My son has a medical condition. Being able to track him on my phone has really put my mind at ease! I love this new phone!

It is definitely great help for parents of young children once you can communicate with your child and yet keep them away from the Internet. At the same time you can track them everywhere.

I love this thing and can't wait for the Filip 2. My son's are 8 and 10 and this is the perfect devise to keep track of them when they are biking through the neighborhood or finish a race way before me.

Useful, battery life wanes & screws needed after

I love the device, it's very useful and delivers on its tracking promise. However, after 2 months, I noticed the battery life drained faster than before, reaching critical in the mid-afternoon vs. late evening. And through regular 9 year old playground activity, 2 of the 4 anchor screws came out, requiring a replacement order. Filip only sells the replacement screws and tool on their site for $4.95 + $8.29 regular UPS ground shipping (NY to LA). Seemed a little soon to replace parts, in my opinion.

I bought two filip watch/phone/tracking devices (not exactly sure what to call it because it's all-encompassing) for my two kids. My daughter is a bit of an explorer and after a few instances of her wandering off at crowded activities and events, I decided I needed something like this. After quite a bit of research I found the filip. I had the opportunity to test it out in the store and decided to get it because of the phone/calling feature. The other ones we looked at didn't have the ability to make calls. It's taken us a few weeks to get used to it, but I can honestly say that I LOVE it and my kids think it's the coolest thing ever. While I originally purchased it to be able to find my kids if they ever got lost, it's actually been really nice for my kids to call me (or my husband) at work when they are on their way home from school, headed to the park with their sitter, just want to say 'hi', etc... Or for us to just check in on their location during the day or send them a text to let them know we're thinking about them. I know they would have similar features with a cell phone, but I just think they're too young for that at this point (4yrs and 8yrs). I can turn it off remotely from my iphone when I don't want them to use it (like when they are at school). When the battery is running low, I get alerts on my phone reminding me to charge it, which is nice. It's a bit bulky, but the kids don't seem to mind. I was also worried that it would fall off my younger daughter, but so far that hasn't been an issue. If you buy the filip, there's a few things to remember to 1. Press the red button firmly to turn it on. I struggled with this a bit at first maybe because I'm used to gently pressing buttons on my iphone. 2. Charge it at night while the kids are asleep. Took me a while to remember to do this and the battery died after 30 hrs or so. Overall, such a cool product. So glad this sort of product exists now and would totally recommend filip to other parents.

Bought this item for my 9-year-old daughter less than three months ago. First problem noticed was that the quality of the voice communication was horrible. Battery life stinks. The battery will fully discharge during a single day. Then the charger broke. I have been promised a replacement unit through FiLIP customer support, but they are out of stock and hope to have one available in 6 to 8 weeks. Meanwhile, I am paying for a line through AT&T that I don't even have the opportunity to use. GRRR!!!

maybe too soon for a review, I just got this a few days ago. But we have tested it pretty thoroughly by calling it, having my son call us, tracking it, and leaving it on to see the battery life. Setting it up was a breeze- I had the app installed on my phone when we went to best buy, and the associate did the set up for me. My son actually got tired of having to answer it because we all called him so much. The sound is good, and the ring is surprisingly unobtrusive. It's actually quiet enough that he doesn't always pay attention to it, but I'd rather it be too quiet than too loud. It is new to him so he fidgets with the band and we keep reminding him to leave it on. He's 10 1/2 and it fits him fine- snug but not too tight. It doesn't seem like it would come off easily. When the larger band comes out we'll get one for as he grows. We don't want to get him a cell phone because he is so forgetful and distracted, and this seems perfect for him. I think after getting over how big and green it is, he likes having the ability to call us whenever he wants. I got the $40 for one year accident coverage; he's 10, and it costs $45 to replace the glass screen anyway, so I figured it was worth it. I have gps for all my dogs, so I understand and appreciate the technology. We'll experiment a lot with it and update the review if we run into the battery life or loosening screw problem. Maybe best buy could carry the replacement parts to avoid that crazy shipping. Battery life- didn't charge it after a full day's use to see how long it would go. Next morning, after 20 hours, we still had at least 1/4 battery life. But I do not have any safe zones set up yet, so maybe that saves on battery life.

I bought the Filip watch a few weeks ago for my two children. After initial hesitation (when I told them about it) they really loved their new watch (as soon as they had it in their hands). I haven't found a comparable product so far and this really is what I have been thinking about for a long time. It wasn't super easy to set up, but I called the hotline and they were very friendly and helpful. Once setup, the devices that I bought work perfectly! The tracking is accurate and I am calling my kids several times a day now when I am at work Definitely recommend it to parents with young kids. My ones are 5 and 7.

    Poor design, poor customer service

We bought one back in may and the band is a horrible design for active kids. It falls off with little effort. Filip promised a band upgrade in September and never delivered. We basically paid 200 bucks plus monthly service for something that now sits on the counter because we can't trust it.

Been fighting with flip for over 3 months about how the sound doesn't work, they finally agree to replace the item but it will take the 4-6weeks to replace it (which is there standard turn around time) all while you still pay your monthly service fees. so ill be out about $60 in service fees alone while this thing hasn't worked.
