What a cast! Helen Mirren, Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, Patrick Stewart, Nicol Williamson at his scenery-chewing best, and Nigel Terry who pulls off the toughest task at age 35 depicting Arthur from a goofy, naive teenager all the way to a disillusioned, world-weary king witnessing his ideals being abandoned. The real star of the show is the cinematography. It's no wonder that it was nominated for an Oscar. Good luck following the story line, but you'll love the visuals along the way.

A real "wonder tale" in appearance , although thoroughly anachronistic. Captures the magic in the Arthur legends, but allows the characters only their slightest humanity. In the grand tradition of such stories, alters details (from the source book by Mallory) to suit the storyteller's interests. Worth watching, but not a rousing version of the lore.

One of the best Knight movies ever. Intense battle scenes. Gabriel Byrne is fantastic in it. A lil long but highly recommended.

Been waiting to buy this movie again for quite a while. Glad B.B. had it on blue ray.

This is an excellent telling of the King Arthur legend. It's got it all; love, betrayal, justice, treachery, & adventure. Starting with his father Uther Pendragon, whose uncontrollable lust for power & an ally's wife nearly brings ruin to the schemes of the wizard seeking to bring peace to England, Merlin The Magician. This ISN'T Disney folks. This is truly an epic grand tale. Also look for Patrick Stewart & Liam Neeson too in the early stages of their fine careers. This is a great addition to any home library of "popcorn" movies (& make two batches as it's over two hours long). You won't be disappointed.

A very entertaining tale of the King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. If you are into this type of mythical and mystic story, this is the pinnacle movie for you. Based on the classic myth of King Arthur, this movie tells you all you need to know of how Camelot was created. Also packed with many celebrities very early in their careers.

This I believe is the greatest version of the story for The greatest sword ever told and it’s owner in King Arthur! The cinematographer, the direction, the acting, and just the overall enormity of its look makes it the only story to watch and love!

The first time I saw this movie was in the 80's on VHS, so I had to revisit it in Blu ray fomat... shows the birth of Arthur and how his relationship with Merlin began,very good adaptation of Le Morte D' Arthur, this is a timeless classic, you will see how young a lot of stars are in the movie, among notables are Liam Neeson, Helen Mirren, Gabriel Byrne and Patrick Stewart.. the story is very close to the book , since then there have been several movie versions of the Arthurian legend, still enjoyable after all these years..

I am so glad that Excalibur made it to Blu Ray. Now, I just hope that someday it will receive a complete remastering. While this is the best presentation of the film yet, the magnitude of this movie warrants even better treatment. Not that this version is bad, it was in fact at times stunning. Still, this is a great film and it should receive equally great remastering. None the less, this is an amazing movie for anyone that enjoys King Arthur stories.

I have seen this movie in all the forms it has been offered in over the years and this is by far the best A/V transfer yet. I saw things that I never saw before and the score was way better too. I enjoy many of the Arthur legend films and this one is near the top. I did not give it 5 stars as I hope that it will be fully remastered one day so that I can. Still, it is very watchable in this release and at this price, you just can't go wrong.

This blu ray is great for fans of this film. You have never seen or heard this film as good as you will on this disc. Don't expect the same level as movies shot within the last 5 years or vintage films that have undergone frame by frame restoration. This is simply the cleanest version of a tremendous film from over 30 years ago. A MUST for Excalibur fans.

My favorite sword and sorcery movie of all time. Still is great to watch in this day and time. Doesn't feel cheesy as so many films from this time do. Saw this in the theater during it's initial release and have been a huge fan ever since. Takes some liberties with the Arthur legend but it makes for one enjoyable film. Patrick Stewart is in it!!!! That makes it ever better.

One of the best stories of all time. A boy frees a legendary sword from its resting place in a stone and becomes king. The trials and tribulations of Arthur and his kingdom of Camelot have never come to life as well as in this movie. Join Merlin, Lancelot and Arthur in a classic story of love and betrayal in the magical realm of knights in shining armor.

Everyone knows the story of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. This is my favorite telling of that story. This was actually was my FIRST VHS tape I ever bought and was $80 at the time. Then when it was available on Lazer Disc I bought it then too. I have it on DVD and now Blu Ray and the picture is BEAUTIFUL!!!

The best movie ever made! Merlin, The King, Dragon's Breath - what more could you ask for in a fantasy film? Patrick Stewart did not age from this movie all the way to Star Trek TNG! How is that possible?
