Expect the same fun & hilarity from past Family Guy seasons. However, this season shakes things up a bit with the unexpected death of one of it's main characters Brian the Dog. He gets replaced by another talking dog named Vinny. You will either love or hate this new character but this is not a deal breaker to own the latest season of MacFarlane's masterpiece.

Season 12? Volume 13?

Just a quick review for everyone questioning the titling of this release. I, too, was dismayed to see that Fox was now releasing "Seasons" on DVD instead of "Volumes." I tried to acquire this particular release from Best Buy (as a Christmas present from my family), because it was the only retailer that listed it as "Volume 13;" all the other retailers I could find listed it as "Season 12." Unfortunately, after receiving the item I found that it came boxed as "Season 12." Opening the case, however, I found the DVDs within to be labeled "Volume 13." The ISO (electronic) labels on the discs also indicate "Volume 13." So it appears some flunky at Fox mis-titled the release box art. See the attached picture. I hope this helps other Family Guy fans!

This marks the second time a full season of the show has been released in one set (volume 12 had the full season 11 on it). In prior years Fox, in its infinite wisdom, would release sets that had half of one season and half of another on it. It has really been a minor point because in terms of following the show, it is not like it ever has season long story arcs that need to be followed. You just have to have seen a prior episode to get a reference if they call back to something. But for those of us who do get the DVDs it has often meant paying the same price for a set with a partial season on it. So it is nice that they have come around to doing what they should have in the first place. It also makes for a pretty funny joke this season in one of the episodes.
As far as the show itself goes, it is pretty standard with what it has been doing the past few years. It can get repetitive with some of the gags (they do like vomit), but I do think they are still entertaining on a consistent enough basis to keep fans of the show entertained. This season has the controversial story line in the middle involving Brian (chances are everyone knows what it is and the cover of the DVD set basically gives it away) that definitely shook the show (and the fans) up. It also sees the return of Cleveland after the Cleveland Show's cancellation. Like the show always has, it makes fun of pretty much any topic, and because the DVD is uncensored it replaces some of the tamer jokes from the broadcast version with harder edged versions. It is also worth noting that nothing gets bleeped out on the DVDs, so expect all the swearing to be in every episode.
For those who get the DVD set, as far as extras go, there are deleted scenes from every episode, a couple episodes showing the full animatics with the dialogue, and a short feature on the Brian storyline with show runners and Seth Green talking about the fan reaction. Pretty standard for what has been included before.

This season dropped around the time FG was in a low point as far as great jokes went. I remember the buzz after the episode involving Brian's fate aired and the impact it had on the fans. Of course everything wasn't as it seemed ;)

My only real complaint is how the "death of Brian" (the family dog) is handled. it doesn't seem that anyone in the family is reall6y that devastated from it, outside of Stewie. This was really a good way to add a bit of drama to an overly silly show. However, the family just moves on quickly from the event and even Stewie does eventually.
Other than that, this season of Family Guy is fresh and funny. While some of the jokes fall flat, more of them are on the mark and witty, as long as one keeps in mind that it is only a cartoon show and should be viewed as such.

Who doesn't love Family Guy, the writers don't hold back, always delivering side splitting humor! I have to say my collection is a little confused by the season vs volume inconsistencies of this particular franchise. When I went to purchase this season in Best Buy the very helpful salesperson did his darndest to uncover that Volume 13 was in fact Season 12

The amount of episodes each season seems to be getting less and less, but it's still a good show. As for the product, the discs were in pristine condition. Got it on sale super cheap. Good deal.
Only negative thing is (for collectors), the box says Season 12 but the last season was labeled Volume 12. So continuity on your dvd rack ends with this one.

I always look forward to the next volume of FG, and it is just so much better than watching the stream or live version because of the censoring. It is also great for taking on trips where we can't get access to hulu or other US TV and these fun shows. I'd say more, but I don't want to give spoilers. just watch it and have fun!

This review contains a spoiler alert in case you have not watched this season yet. Do not read on if you don't want to know. It's Family Guy. If you like the series, you will like this season. I wasn't happy when they killed Brian (I don't think I'm the only one), but then they brought him back so everything is okay again!

While this isn't the best or funniest season of family guy, the show still knows how to make you laugh out loud somewhere in every episode. The story line of the death of Brian and the introduction of Vinny is a great reminder that they can still suprise you after all these years. A must have for all family guy fans.

You never to know what to expect but family guy has touch us all. You never know what to expect for this series but this family has been though it all. They will never give up and they will never surrender. They brought us laughter and joy. Stewie and Brian best friends forever. This season will bring a whole new change to the family. Watch and see a whole for family guy as you never seen before.

Family Guy keeps getting better and better with each Season/Volume! Life and Death of Brian is the one serious heart breaking episode that nobody was prepared for. Definitely not a good feeling after this episode. It makes you feel just like the characters. Heartbroken!

This was a very funny and entertaining DVD. The griffins keep the humor rolling in this hilarious 12th season. Their deadpan humor hits you non stop and leave you rolling with laughs. I would recommend this twelfth season to any fan of comedy or animation

For a show that is now in it's 13th season, Family Guy still delivers the comic relief enjoyed by it's viewers. The 12th season had the death of an important character, Brian the talking dog, but was brought back to life with the use of a "time machine."

Seth MacFarline does it again by stirring up controversy! After killing off Brian, introducing a new dog, and letting just enough time to pass, he soothes the masses by bringing Brian back! Cleveland is back too since the passing of The Cleveland Show.

I have followed Family Guy since the beginning. I continued to watch the reruns on Cartoon network after Fox cancelled it (both times). The show continues to maintain a high entertainment value even after all these years and has a strong following.

Great animation and clever scripts make "Family Guy" a top-notch guilty pleasure even into season 12 of the series. The bonus features aren't as plentiful as in the past, but the shows are mostly winners. I do miss the extended musical numbers of the early years, but it may be that Seth McFarland's input isn't as prominent as before.

Excellent season. Note that they finally switched to season #'s (and this is season 12) instead of Volume #'s in which they left off at vol.................... 12!!! LOL
