For someone who loved the show when it was on the release of the series has been a great thing. Although I don't know why they can only release one season a year, get with it and release them every couple months instead of having to wait a year between releasing seasons. Also why didn't they put extras on the dvd like deleted scenes, comentary with the cast, and other fun things.

Enjoy all of the third season of Family Matters. Season 3 is when this show found its stride, a lot of funny moments to watch again and again.

The Best Season of Family Matters

In no possible way is Urkel a hurtful stereotype. The character is a stereotype, but he isn't hurtful. Most of the show is spent learning that Urkel has a heart of gold. Steve is loved by this family because of his kindness and loyalty towards them. This family matters to Urkel, because they're the only family that he has in his life that actually like him. Yes, Urkel was a mixed blessing. When he was just a side character in the first 3 seasons Family Matters was very good Cosby replica that dealt with many real life topics, but once they started focusing solely on him the quality of show diminished. Season 3 found the perfect balance between the characters, though. What really killed Family Matters was when Steve created all of those unbelievable inventions in the later seasons, leading the outlandish plots of Seasons 7 - 9. Personally, I enjoyed the slap-stick of these later seasons, but I can understand why people hated the shift from family dynamics and realism towards non-stop escapades.

From my perspective, this series originally started out as family-oriented, but the moment it introduced the Urkel character I lost all respect for this series. I personally find the Urkel character to be highly offensive and to be a representation of an insulting and hurtful stereotype of a young person. Given all the problems of bullying going on in our schools, to take what I feel is an insulting and hurtful stereotype and present this to impressionable young children as part of the TGIF children's program lineup in the 1990s, to this day it makes me wonder how any caring person could think that is appropriate?
