This is a life long favourite

Ever since I was a child (we will not say when that was) this has been one of, if not my most, favorite cinema-graphic experiences. The first time I saw the dancing fairies, mushrooms, centaurs, alligators, and hippos was wonderful. Mickey as “The Sorcerer's Apprentice” and the animated brooms is one of the more fun and endearing scenes. Adding to that the overall use of images that are often surreal in nature - one movie with dinosaurs, fairies, centaurs, volcanoes, and then the demon Chernabog - can be quite confusing. That demon scared the bejesus out of me as a kid. I have enjoyed this movie for half a century. The music is classical, almost all of the music was written before the twentieth century, so unless the viewer has no artistic sense, everyone should be able to enjoy the experience of Fantasia. From the soothing strains of Beethoven's "Symphony No. 6 in F" or Pastorale, and the traditionally creepy Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor", into the ubiquitous Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" and then the suspenseful and pounding score of Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain" this score covers just about everything except country and rock and roll. The Blu-Ray allows you enjoy in your home what before you could only experience in the better theatres. I had the opportunity to see this in NYC at Radio City and then at the Lowe's Capital (before it was knocked down). The quality of the print and the music was top notch. Other than the theatre’s enormous screen, that is still hard to recreate in your living room, the new release is probably the best chance to become immersed in the fantasy world of Fantasia Sit back and enjoy. Find out what you have been missing.

    Stunning double feature

Here's an essential addition to any Blu-Ray collection. Walt Disney's classic Fantasia and the great sequel Fantasia 2000 are both in this set. Both movies feature brilliant orchestrations of some of the finest music ever composed. The films feature a series of animated sequences set to some of the finest works of some of the great classicasl composers. The first Fantasia, a movie far ahead of it's time, features selections from Tchaikovsky's 'Nutcracker Suite' and 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice', the latter segment starred none other than Mickey Mouse in one of his most iconic roles. Fantasia 2000 takes the concept and improves on it using modern animation techniques. Fantasia 2000 starts off with Beehtoven's 9th and even features a composition by Gershwin. Donald Duck has a starring role in one segment and there's even a segment that answers the age old question 'What would happen if you gave a yo-yo to a flock of flamingos?' The extras include 'Destino', an animated short based on the art of Salvador Dali, and some extensive featurettes on the history of both films as well as that of 'Destino' (I recommend watching the segments about 'Destino'). The HD transfer is what I have come to expect from Disney. In other words, flawless! Everything is very clear and the sound comes through great. Disney has given us yet another brilliant Blu-Ray transfer. There were some source material issues with the Fantasia DVD that I did not see in the Blu-Ray, an exemplary job of restoration! If you like classical music or if you just like great moves, you need to get this set. Walt Disney said it best when he said that Fantasia is timeless.

Probably the greatest Disney film of all time. This was released in 1940 way before computer animation.

Make sure your child has seen this somewhere for free before you pay for it. I thought my daughter had seen it at day care and I was wrong. She didn't understand why no one talks in this movie. it's better for adults.

I love Disney. We have almost all of the Disney movies on blu. These two movies are terrible. I wish I never bought them. The only good thing about them was the Sorcerers Apprentice scene. That was it. the rest was terrible. I want my 35 dollars back. Other than The Toothfairy, this is the worst Disney movie ever made!
