As a fan of the Harry Potter series and the Wizarding World I was excited for this upcoming series, and when Fantastic Beasts was announced I was ready. Upon seeing it I was entertained, but a bit disappointed because I felt the film wasn't certain which direction it wanted to go in, if it wanted to be a fantasy tale within the world for and from the perspective of fully grown adults/characters or if it wanted to have fun with the world and actually utilize the title given to it. And well what we got was a film that I found enjoyable, with a different perspective because we're not entering this world from the perspective of children, we're not being introduced to it from an a more or less "blank slate" protagonist, instead we're entering it from a fully actualized (and flawed) protagonist, which is fine and interesting. Furtermore we're coming into the wizarding world in the 50s and in the USA which I thought was exciting, and it can be (or could have been), but because we're re-entering this world from a different perspective and era and setting...….and in the middle of a new story it feels like the movie expects you to play catch-up despite it being only chapter 1. also…..it's not too well paced.....I will say that I'm likely biased to like this film due to growing up with the Harry Potter series.

Extended universe movies can be a mixed bag - sometimes minor characters/subplots/references are better left unexplored. But Fantastic Beasts is an example of how to do extended universe right. It's a fun film, which evokes the magic of the Harry Potter series, while managing not to feel like a rehash. It doesn't step on / retcon existing character arcs / plot lines. And on UHD, it lives up to its name (i.e. it looks fantastic!). Definitely worth adding to the collection.

Fantastic Beasts is one of the few spin off projects I've actually enjoyed. It manages to retain the same magic, pardon the pun, of the Potter universe with great special effects, endearing characters, and an engaging narrative. If you're a Potter fan by any stretch of the imagination, you owe it to yourself to watch this film. Only reason I subtracted a star is because it sets up a sequel towards the end and I'm a strong believer that not every movie needs one.

What a fascinating turn awaits you when you can now brush off your zeal for Harry Potter and embrace Fantastic Beasts. Let your imagination abound in this remarkable tale of wizardry. In 3D, the adventure is even more startling. A must for any wizard fan or for those who love to be carried away with pure fairy tale wonder!!!

Great fantasy movie. If you love Harry Potter, this movie is a must! Its great to see events from before Harrys time. Even if you haven't watched Harry Potter before, this movie is easy to follow and you dont need prior knowledge of Harry to watch this. (Though you should definitely go watch Harry Potter afterwards!)

I have to say I have never read any of the HP books, nor the newer ones at well. I enjoyed all of the HP movies and was looking forward to watching and owning this as soon as it was released on disc. you can watch any of these over and over again and always find something you missed...very highly recommended.

Finally got to watch Fantastic Beasts and I was blown away with the 4K UHD quality. I've been purchasing blu-ray movies for the longest, but when I finally upgraded my home theater system, the first movie I bought was Fantastic Beasts and I'm extremely happy with this movie!!!!

Wanted to make sure I watch this again before Crimes of Grindelwald is released, which I didn’t have a chance to see in theaters. As a bonus, although the digital version included was technically expired, I was still able to access it. And, I got the 4K version for my next tv upgrade.

"Fantastic Beasts" is a good movie, but it lacks the structure that made the Harry Potter movies great -- every Harry Potter film was a standalone in a framework, each, except the last two, covering a year in school. "Fantastic Beasts" is filled with humor, emotion and great effects (No. 2 is darker) but it is obviously part of a series. Also, Dolby Atmos has to be chosen; it isn't the default sound.

Finally, after quite a dry spell, fans of wizards and magic can watch Harry Potter-like movies again. The characters are all new but the premise of magic and magical creatures is alive and well in this movie. The element of good versus evil is also part of the story

U am probably in the minority of having seen all the Harry Potter movies without reading any of the books. From that perspective, I highly enjoyed this movie and feel it's a nice addition to the core series. Looking forward to the rest of these releases.

I watched this movie with reservations and possibly mild expectations and this movie was above and beyond what I was expecting. I love how this is setting a great series of movies that will connect eventually with the Harry Potter series.

I really had no idea what this movie was about. Me and my kids were looking for a movie for movie night and this is the movie they picked. We really enjoyed the movie; the special effects were great and Atmos sound is the icing on the cake.

One of the things I didn't like about Harry Potter was that the main characters were rather moody and unlikeable at times. This is not the case here. The main character is very likeable and his collection of animals is adorable.

This movie was a great addition to the franchise. It was nice to see another side of the Harry Potter world that wasn’t so focused on hogwarts. I love all of the different creatures that are featured and the effects and story are great.

The woman that got boys reading again never fails to impress (I lie - the final Potter book that was turning into a play kinda sucked, but...) Eddy Redmayne is superb as a shy wizard... awesome cgi... I couldn't resist.
